Chapter 148
Sienna's pov
"Speaking of which, Alexander had a fiancée before. But his dad didn't like her family's background, so he thought Vanya would be a better match."
Julian scoffed, "And my dad? He probably wanted to get in good with Alexander, who's tight with Harrison , so he went along with it. Isn't that just nuts? To my dad, we're just pawns."
I remembered the time Julian got beaten by Theodore in front of everyone.
Right there in the restaurant, Theodore behaved as if no one else existed, completely ignoring those around him.
Back then, I felt really bad for Julian.
If he hadn't set all this up, I might still feel sorry for him now.
"So why are you going after Harrison ?" I asked, steering the conversation. "Your dad's issues with the Blackwood family have nothing to do with you, right?"
Some things didn't need to be spelled out; Julian got it.
He just laughed, louder and louder, like he couldn't stop.
"Do I have a choice? I was born into the Vane family, always compared to Harrison . Even without the comparisons, he'd still be my eternal rival."
For a moment, I thought Julian had lost it, driven crazy by his own schemes.
"Sienna , you're pretty lucky. Look at you now, living well. At least you married the guy you love."
I couldn't shake the feeling he was mocking me.
"I'll take the termination agreement with me. You should head back too."
I couldn't stay with Julian any longer.
I turned and left without looking back, his voice fading behind me.
"Sienna , no matter what happens with the Vane family or with Harrison , you'll always have a special place in my heart. I hope you believe that."
In my heart, I responded.
There was a time when I did believe him. He did protect me and never hurt me; he just deceived me. That was all.
I put the documents away and grabbed a cab to meet Luna.
It was the same café, right in the city center.
I probably wouldn't make it back to the Moretti Villa tonight, so I called Lark to explain.
Inside the café, Luna was already waiting.
She had ordered a bunch of desserts and fried chicken, enough for dinner.
When she saw me, she immediately took my right hand and checked it over. "How's it feeling? Any pain?"
There was always some discomfort in my right hand, but it didn't mess with my daily life.
I shook my head. "When are you planning to leave?"
"Sometime this week. I can't deal with the Reed family anymore. If I don't leave soon, they'll force me to marry one of those losers."
It seemed like kids from big families had no say in their own marriages.
In that sense, Harrison was pretty impressive.
"Not coming back?"
Luna shook her head. "I really don't want to come back. The people I know here are all unreliable. It's way more peaceful abroad."
She glanced around the café.
"Five years have passed. People come and go, and we've changed a lot."
Luna wasn't usually sentimental, so it was surprising to hear her say so much.
I was a bit worried. "Luna, are you okay? Don't worry about that jerk Alexander. It's his loss for letting you go."
"I'm fine. I won't waste my tears on him. If I see him again, I'll give him a piece of my mind."
The café door swung open again.
This time, Kaia and Harrison walked in.
What a coincidence.
I immediately lowered my head and covered my forehead, hoping they wouldn't notice me.
Even though I didn't need to be afraid of them anymore.
Luna noticed my reaction and glanced in their direction. After a moment, she muttered, "Just our luck."
"Mr. Blackwood, thanks for grabbing coffee with me after work."
Kaia sounded apologetic, but her excitement was clear.
"Didn't you say you had work to discuss? It's no trouble."
Harrison probably didn't know I was here, or he wouldn't have let Kaia bring him over.
And they sat at the table right next to ours.
"Gross."
Luna turned her head away, clearly not wanting to face them. She whispered, "Should we go somewhere else?"
I nodded.
With Harrison here, I felt uneasy too.
Luna packed everything up, and I went to get a bag from the server.
In those brief thirty seconds, Kaia had already started talking to Luna.
"Ms. Reed, what a coincidence."
I was walking back but stopped in my tracks.
Kaia immediately noticed me and looked flustered. "Oh, Ms. Price is here too..."
I interrupted her, "It's Mrs. Blackwood."
She was definitely doing it on purpose, calling me by the wrong name every time we met.
Kaia quickly lowered her head. "Sorry, I heard you were separated and thought you were planning to divorce Mr. Blackwood."
Interesting.
"My separation from Mr. Blackwood has nothing to do with divorce. If Ms. Wright has such poor comprehension, you should resign early. Staying at the Blackwood Group will only cause trouble."
After a few days apart, I could manage not to be so confrontational with Harrison .
As long as he didn't rush to defend Kaia today.
"Well... rest assured, with Mr. Blackwood around, there won't be any issues at work."
Every word of hers emphasized Harrison 's favoritism towards her.
I opened the bag, and Luna put the items inside.
Sensing that we were about to leave, Kaia feigned surprise. "Are you leaving just because we arrived? You don't want to see us?"
I ignored her and turned to Harrison . "Keep your assistant in check. I remember our agreement. I hope you're taking it seriously."
I didn't care what Kaia thought. I just didn't want to see Harrison protecting her.
"Let's go!"
Luna pulled me away, and Kaia, as if afraid Luna wouldn't hear, called out loudly.
"Ms. Reed, are you attending Mr. Grant and Ms. Vane's wedding?"
I knew Kaia was trying to provoke her, but this behavior was crossing the line.
Luna had a much shorter temper than I did.
"Sienna , wait for me." She handed me the bag and turned to Kaia.
"Ms. Wright, are you hoping I'll attend?"
This was Luna's warning sign.
I remembered how she had helped me teach Harrison a lesson before.
"Since you had a past with him, attending would be a way to give your blessings and move on. It would be good for you."
Luna slapped Kaia so fast it was almost invisible.
"Do you just enjoy getting hit?"
She yanked Kaia out of Harrison 's arms, and I, not sure what I was thinking, took the opportunity to block Harrison from intervening.
"Stay out of this!" I shouted.
