Chapter 122
Sienna's pov
I couldn't help but let out a cold laugh. "If you can't even own up to what you've done, what right do you have to ask me to stay with you now?"
The former Harrison would never have been so indecisive.
I really wanted to say that to him.
"Because I'm scared too."
But he said it so calmly, like he was talking about the weather or something.
Could someone really keep their emotions in check like that?
I could never be as composed as he is.
"If I tell you the truth and you leave me, then what? But you're right, it's better if I tell you than if someone else does."
Harrison smiled gently, his fingers brushing the hair by my temple. "But if I tell you, will you stay?"
He rarely smiled so faintly.
I was used to seeing him in control, handling everything with ease. Now, seeing him like this... I didn't know how to respond.
"That depends on what you've done," I said, trying to sound casual, my gaze shifting slightly, avoiding eye contact. "Let's see if what you've done is worth giving you another chance."
I had originally planned to give Harrison another chance.
But then Kaia showed up out of nowhere.
And Harrison didn't seem to have any intention of sending her away.
I didn't understand.
"It's like, if you tell me, there's still a fifty percent chance. If I hear it from someone else, you have no chance at all."
But I knew the truth better than anyone.
While testing him, I was also raising my own expectations.
And there was always a chance of getting hurt.
Harrison nodded, a determined look in his eyes.
"Alright, I understand."
Of course, he only told me about the crime.
"I know you wouldn't harm a child, but in that situation... I wasn't a witness, I wanted to negotiate, but the evidence wasn't enough."
I listened quietly, as if hearing a brand-new story.
What was it like from Harrison 's perspective?
"I thought about risking everything to get you out. You were innocent, you didn't deserve to suffer like that. But I had to consider the Blackwood family and watch out for Elena."
What did watch out mean?
My heart raced, and I couldn't control my expression. My voice turned bitter. "Isn't she the woman you brought back? Why do you need to watch out for her?"
He even defended Elena in front of everyone, humiliating me, his wife.
"You wouldn't have tricked me while I was amnesiac, would you?"
Harrison shook his head. "There's too much involved. I initially brought her back to divert our opponent's attention, to keep them from focusing on you. But... a lot happened, and I realized what a huge mistake I made."
The reason sounded absurd, yet somehow reasonable.
Harrison wouldn't lie to me about something like this.
I wanted to ask him if the harsh words he said to me before were lies.
The insults felt real, but the sweet talk seemed fake.
"Do you regret bringing her home?" I held the latte to my lips, the steam rising from the cup, hoping it would hide my reddening eyes. "And then? Where is she now? Martha mentioned she's no longer with you."
I lowered my gaze, not daring to put down the cup, sipping the milk slowly, trying to swallow the lump in my throat.
If Harrison was telling the truth, he was still a loyal person.
He'd rather be misunderstood than explain, swallowing all the pain himself.
"After the case was closed, I sent her abroad. She won't be coming back."
I widened my eyes, almost dropping the latte. "Sent her abroad?"
Anyone would be angry hearing that.
"She framed me for killing her own son, and you sent her abroad? Is that what you did, even if it meant wronging me?"
I wanted to throw the matcha latte in his face.
Elena owed me more than just that.
Nora's life, and Agnes's, I hadn't even settled the score with her yet!
"I won't let her get away with it. I'll gather all the evidence and hand it over to the court, but now isn't the time."
Harrison hurried to explain, his tone urgent. "Anyone who hurt you will pay the price."
In terms of mindset, I couldn't compare to Harrison .
Even when I was on the verge of breaking down, he remained calm and composed.
How could I believe he loved me?
"Hope you keep your word." I suddenly stood up. "Let's go back. I'm tired."
Harrison followed closely behind me.
"One more thing, don't trust strangers easily."
He glanced around the café, a cold look in his eyes. "They approach you with ulterior motives."
As he mentioned this in the café, it made me think of Jess.
Had Harrison found something?
I didn't ask further, just nodded to show I heard him.
Harrison dropped me off at home and went straight to the office. He might have a tough battle with Julian tonight.
In my bedroom, I stared at the chat app, hesitating before logging into my old account.
Besides Julian's messages, the others were from a month ago.
I didn't dare contact anyone, not even Luna.
I couldn't drag her into this now.
[Sienna , did you really lose your memory?]
Julian's single message sent chills down my spine.
Did everyone think I was faking amnesia? Was my act that unconvincing?
[Why would I lie about something like this? Pretending not to remember the past doesn't benefit me.]
He replied: [It benefits you a lot. If you forget everything, you can live happily. But a new you is interesting too. If you don't love Harrison , I should fight for you.]
He seemed to be declaring war on Harrison through me.
Either way, he wanted to win me over.
[Do you love me? I'm curious. Why would a woman who's been in prison and lost her memory be worth fighting over? What attracts you to me?]
He didn't reply for a long time, probably busy.
Then there was a knock on my bedroom door.
"Mrs. Blackwood, Mr. Zach Blackwood is here."
It was almost ten at night. Martha usually wouldn't call me at this hour.
Why was Zach here?
I put on a coat and went to the living room. Zach was sitting on the couch, legs crossed, raising an eyebrow at me. "Sienna , long time no see."
"Did Harrison send you?" I looked at Martha, puzzled. "Why did he call you?"
"Well..." Martha sighed. "Mr. Blackwood, you should explain."
Zach stood up, staring at me thoughtfully.
"Did you really lose your memory? Doesn't seem like it. Is amnesia even real?"
He started to approach me. "If I find a way to restore your memory, should Harrison thank me?"
