Chapter 95 Reporting to the Special Operations Unit
Thanks to Henry's persuasion, even though Autumn knew Olivia was going to the Special Operations Unit, she didn't say much when Olivia came back home. When Olivia left to report for duty, she took Gwyneth with her, as Gwyneth had been at Olivia's place for so long.
"Finally, some freedom!" Gwyneth exclaimed, hopping into the car, feeling alive again.
Olivia, feeling a bit resigned, drove towards the Special Operations Unit.
The Special Operations Unit was way out in the boonies, in a deserted mountain area, but it was heavily guarded with several sentry posts. When they saw Gwyneth, her comrades were thrilled.
"Gwyneth, you're back!" they cheered.
Gwyneth, feeling pretty proud, put her arm around Olivia's shoulder and introduced her.
"Hey guys, I'm back! This is my best friend! Isn't she gorgeous?" Gwyneth said to her comrades.
Olivia felt a bit awkward; Gwyneth didn't seem like a cop at all.
Everyone laughed and cheered, and Gwyneth was so happy she got a bit too proud.
"Listen up, don't mess with Olivia, got it?" Gwyneth warned.
"Don't worry, Gwyneth, we wouldn't dare mess with your friend!" they replied.
"By the way, does Ms. Smith have a boyfriend?" someone asked.
The group kept cheering, not noticing Kieran approaching with a stern look. He kicked the guy in front of him to the ground.
"What are you all doing? Got nothing better to do? Get to the field and run twenty laps each!" Kieran barked. No one dared to stay; they all took off running.
But some still hoped, "Mr. Schmidt, it's a rest day. Do we really have to run laps?"
Kieran sneered, "Others run twenty laps, you run thirty; keep talking, and you'll run forty!"
Everyone groaned but no one dared to slack off. They all went to run laps.
Olivia stood in front of Kieran and said, "Reporting, Mr. Schmidt. Olivia reporting for duty!"
Kieran said, "Olivia, your dorm's ready. Go get settled; Mr. White's been waiting for you."
Olivia nodded, grabbed her backpack, and headed inside. Gwyneth tried to follow but was stopped by Kieran.
"You, go home and rest. You can't come back until you've had a re-examination!"
Gwyneth's eyes widened in disbelief.
"Mr. Schmidt, what are you talking about? I'm already here," Gwyneth protested.
"Go back, Gwyneth. You still have steel plates in your body. Do you think this is a game?" Kieran was furious; Gwyneth was really a handful!
Gwyneth acted stubborn, refusing to leave. Kieran tried to take her to the car, but she slipped out again. Kieran wanted to hit her, but with steel plates in her shoulder and thigh, he didn't dare to.
"I don't want to go back, I can recover with the team, Mr. Schmidt, please, give me some light work, nothing physical!"
Gwyneth pleaded, holding her cheeks with both hands. Kieran looked at her, deep in thought.
Letting her recover at home was for her own good, but Kieran knew Gwyneth too well; staying at home too long might make her depressed.
"Go find Olivia and stay in my dorm. I'll stay in the office!"
Kieran handed Gwyneth the key to his dorm, which made her very happy.
"Mr. Schmidt, you are the best!" Gwyneth ran off excitedly.
However, after a few steps, Kieran shouted after her. "Walk properly; your leg can't bear weight yet!"
As soon as Kieran spoke, Gwyneth immediately complied and walked slowly.
Kieran, feeling helpless, took out his phone and called Henry.
"I've been assigned to work with your team. News from Oceancrest City says Drew's left Novaria, but he'll definitely try to sneak back and come after you. Olivia's here, so don't worry!" Kieran said.
Henry nodded and reminded him again. "Your mission—keep her out of it. She's not in great shape, so don't let her get too worn out."
Kieran chuckled, amused.
"Henry, do you actually want me to give Olivia special treatment? You've really changed. Do your job and stay out of Special Operations Unit's business!" Hanging up the phone, Kieran swaggered to the office area.
The leadership of the Special Operations Unit was thrilled about Olivia's arrival. In the evening, Gwyneth dragged Olivia to the cafeteria for dinner. She waved at Kieran from afar, "Mr. Schmidt, over here!"
Kieran, feeling helpless, looked at Gwyneth and silently brought over two extra meals.
Gwyneth felt very happy, like she was home again.
"Olivia, our cafeteria food is great, especially this steak, your favorite..." Gwyneth said. As she saw the dishes, she paused, quickly moved all the meat from Olivia's tray to her own, and gave Olivia all the vegetables.
Kieran frowned, knowing Gwyneth was greedy, but this seemed excessive.
Olivia noticed Kieran's displeasure and explained, "I don't eat meat. Gwyneth is helping me."
"No meat?" Kieran looked at Olivia, his eyes flashing.
"Have you always not eaten meat, or is it recent?" Kieran asked.
Olivia smiled. "Since I regained my memory, I've been dreaming of blood-covered corpses every night. Since then, I can't eat meat."
Gwyneth, holding her utensils, dropped them on the table. Her eyes reddened as she looked at Olivia and said, "Why didn't you tell us, Olivia? You..."
"Alright, it's just a temporary thing. It's not as bad as you think! Actually, being vegetarian is good, I'm very healthy now, slim and fit!" Olivia replied.
Gwyneth looked at Olivia with heartache. Her face so thin; how could she be healthy? But Gwyneth didn't dare to say it.
Kieran handed her new utensils. "Eat first, after dinner, take Olivia to my dormitory. Rest well tonight; there's early training tomorrow. Go to bed early, got it?"
Gwyneth nodded, feeling sad but still having a good appetite, and finished all the meat dishes on her tray.
Back at Kieran's dormitory, Olivia felt a bit embarrassed.
"Actually, I can stay in my own dormitory. Staying in Mr. Schmidt's place doesn't seem right." Olivia said.
Gwyneth entered, skillfully took out slippers and changed, handing a pair to Olivia as well.
"What's wrong with it? I've been staying here! Ever since he got this dormitory, it's been me staying here. Look at the stuff here—I bought it all. Even the decorations are my doing!"
Kieran's house, decorated by Gwyneth? What was going on?
Olivia raised an eyebrow, looking at Gwyneth, feeling a headache. Gwyneth had always been carefree, growing up with no concept of romance. Olivia could see Kieran liked her, but Gwyneth's attitude towards him was unclear.
"Now that you're living at his place, what's your relationship exactly?" Olivia's words made Gwyneth freeze.
She shook her head frantically. "Don't say that! He's just my boss."
