Chapter 94 Drew's Madness
Layla glared at Olivia, pure hatred in her eyes. "I gave you guys a chance. You could've caught that guy, but Henry didn't believe me. If he had, I could've helped him catch Drew!"
Olivia just shrugged.
"Maybe, but you're underestimating Drew. You think you can help Henry catch him? That's a joke! If he were that dumb, he wouldn't have lasted this long. His methods are way more ruthless than you can imagine! Ms. Cole, you'd better spill the details of your deal with Drew, how you contacted him, and where he might be headed," Olivia said.
Layla stared back at Olivia, refusing to talk.
"I'll only tell Henry. Until he shows up, I'm not saying a word!" Layla shot back.
Olivia nodded, leaning back in her chair, eyeing Layla with interest.
"Honestly, even if you don't tell me, I can guess. We've got a mountain of files on Drew. Three months ago, I got his info from Interpol. I might know more than you!"
Olivia hadn't thought about this angle until she was attacked, which jogged her memory of what she'd seen in the archives.
"Drew's a twisted guy because of his family. He was the heir to a wealthy family. After his mom died, his dad remarried, and his life turned into a nightmare.
His stepmom abused him and even tried to strip him of his inheritance through deceitful means. And he harbored feelings for his half-sister!"
Every word Olivia said hit Layla hard. As she looked into Olivia's calm eyes, she felt a strange fear.
"Aren't you scared of him? Haven't you been scarred?"
Olivia smiled at Layla. "Layla, I have zero sympathy for you. You know why? Because you caved to his cruelty, but I won't! You've seen him— he's missing an ear. I bit it off! So no, I'm not scared of him; I hate him. Why should I fear a bastard? For the rest of my life, I'll make him fear me!"
With that, Olivia got up and left. Layla's case was handed over to the Oceancrest City Police Department. Olivia left Oceancrest City to report directly to Kieran. By the time Henry got back, Olivia was already gone.
Henry was a bit annoyed. They had planned to stroll around Oceancrest City together and buy some stuff for Autumn, but everything went wrong, and Olivia nearly got into trouble. The date was ruined, and Henry was frustrated.
He called Olivia, who was already at the airport.
"Who knows when we'll meet again? Why'd you leave so fast?" Henry's words had a hint of grievance, making Olivia feel a bit helpless.
"Henry, be serious. There's still a lot to do. Be careful, okay?" Olivia replied.
Henry held the phone, finally smiling.
"You take care too. You're too thin; you need to gain some weight, okay?" Henry heard Olivia's response before hanging up. When he entered the conference room, which was full of people, his expression instantly became serious.
"Mr. Phillips, can we ask Ms. Smith to come over? After all, this matter is related to her too," someone suggested.
"No way!" Henry shot down the suggestion, giving everyone a stern look.
"Her identity needs to stay under wraps. I've already taken care of her info. Today, we're here to talk about the Oceancrest City Police Department's issues. This has nothing to do with her or me. Drew had the guts to come to Oceancrest City so openly. I think the cops here need to seriously think about why these criminals are running wild!"
Henry put on his cap and turned to leave. Parker followed, leaving the police officers in the conference room staring at each other.
They had to clean up their own mess. Henry wasn't going to care. It was such a big meeting, and such a big mistake to let Layla into the seminar for an interview. If she caused any more trouble, the loss would be huge, and the whole country would be embarrassed.
After leaving the conference room, Parker caught up with Henry.
"Henry, where's Olivia?" Parker asked.
"She went back to Silverlight City. This isn't her problem, and she shouldn't stick around," Henry replied.
Parker nodded, just as pissed about the situation. Luckily, the shooting happened in a café. If it had gone down at the venue, it would've been a major disaster.
"Henry, I know you're swamped with work and responsibilities, but we need to talk about Olivia!" Parker said.
Since it was about Olivia, Henry couldn't ignore it.
"Go ahead," Henry said.
"I've noticed Olivia seems to have her memory back, but she's keeping it to herself. Maybe she's strong enough to turn her past into motivation. We all know she's a capable and exceptional cop; her past won't hold her back but will push her forward."
Henry nodded. He also felt that Olivia could handle her past memories and even use them as a weapon.
"But her health isn't great. Her organs are showing signs of premature aging. I haven't figured out why yet, so you need to be ready."
Henry clenched his fists and took a deep breath.
"Tell me what I need to do. Whatever it is, I'll handle it," Henry said.
Parker nodded and patted Henry on the shoulder.
"Don't stress too much. We'll find a way. I think Olivia's noticed it too; otherwise, she wouldn't have gone for Special Operations Unit training," Parker said.
Parker left, and Henry stood in the corner downstairs, smoking a cigarette. After a long moment of thought, he took out his phone and made a call.
"Autumn, it's Henry. Olivia's been assigned a new task and needs to go for Special Operations Unit training for six months. This is from the higher-ups. I think it's also a good training opportunity for her," Henry said.
On the other end of the line, Autumn's face looked grim.
"Her health..." she said worriedly.
"I talked it over with Mr. Taylor. Even though the training's tough, at least she won't be sent on missions. It's also a form of training for her!" Henry replied.
