Chapter 81 I Miss My Dad
Everyone in the room was stunned, especially Ivan, whose heart was pounding.
Olivia recognized the guy, which meant her memory was back.
"Olivia, how do you know him?" Ivan asked.
Olivia looked at Ivan with innocent eyes, "I saw it in the files. This guy committed a bunch of crimes, but he never got caught."
Ivan let out a sigh of relief, and so did everyone else. Henry noticed a slight twitch in Olivia's ear, which made him frown.
"We caught him, but he won't talk. One of our colleagues is missing, and we don't know if they were captured or..."
When Olivia heard that, her fingers trembled again. Henry reached out and held her hand, feeling her warmth, and he got nervous.
"Olivia, let's go somewhere private to talk!"
With that, Henry led Olivia upstairs. Ivan watched but didn't stop them, leaving the others downstairs puzzled.
"Aren't you going to intervene?" Doyle asked.
"Intervene in what? They're having a private conversation, should I eavesdrop?" Ivan's words made Doyle and the others laugh.
Doyle patted Ivan's shoulder, "Henry's a good kid, you're lucky! But Olivia, is she okay now?"
Doyle also came from Silverpeak State, so he knew about Olivia's past.
"She seems fine for now, but... who knows about the future. Doyle, Olivia's had a rough life."
Upstairs, Henry asked her, "Where's your room?"
Olivia was taken aback, "My room?"
Henry laughed, "Yeah, your room. What are you thinking? Look at what I'm wearing, where we are. What could I possibly do to you?" Olivia responded with a swift kick.
"Can you keep your voice down? Aren't you embarrassed?" Olivia was annoyed. She walked into her room, and Henry followed, placing his cap on the cabinet and looking around.
Henry had never been in her room before. It was all pink—pink curtains, pink bedding, lace canopies. It was like a pink explosion!
Henry didn't know where to sit, so Olivia brought over a chair. She sat at her dressing table, and Henry sat opposite her.
"You know Rufus, really because of those case files?"
Olivia hesitated, then nodded, "I saw it by chance, and then I remembered him deeply, like I'd seen him somewhere before!"
Henry frowned, "You've seen him?"
Olivia frowned too, "It feels like I have, but also like I haven't. I can't remember!"
Henry took a deep breath, the words he wanted to say stayed stuck in his chest. When they went back downstairs, everyone looked at them expectantly, making Olivia feel awkward.
"I talked to Olivia about Rufus's twisted mind. She studied forensic science and knows a bit about this, so I wanted to see how we can get him to talk!"
Olivia rolled her eyes at Henry and sat down next to Ivan.
"You can't think of these people with normal logic. Their minds are twisted. There are ways to break them down, to destroy their psychological defenses and strip away their fantasies!"
Olivia laid out a few things Rufus really cared about. If his bottom line was broken right in front of him, he would lose it, and in that state, he would spill the truth.
Everyone agreed with Olivia's take, and Doyle was especially impressed.
"Just like Austin's daughter, Olivia, you've really grown up. I'm proud of you!" Doyle said.
Hearing Doyle mention her dad, Olivia felt a bit down but replied, "Doyle, I miss my dad." The room got tense, and Ivan quickly put an arm around her shoulders.
"Olivia, we all miss him. Even though he's gone, there are still a lot of people who care about you," Ivan reassured her.
Olivia smiled and nodded, "Yeah, Ivan, I just got emotional seeing Doyle. I really want to visit where my dad worked, but I'm swamped with work right now."
Doyle felt relieved. If she went, that would be worrying!
"Olivia, you're doing great with your job. I heard you've helped solve several old cases. Keep it up! And when you get a break, come visit Henry. You're always welcome!" Doyle said warmly.
Doyle's words lightened the mood, and Olivia laughed heartily. Everyone was happy, and Ivan breathed a sigh of relief.
As they left Ivan's house and got into the car, the folks in the front were still talking about Olivia.
"Mr. Cunningham, Olivia's dad was Austin from that big case years ago, right?" A curious officer in the front asked, but Doyle, sitting in the back, didn't respond.
"Since Olivia's a cop now, why not let her continue investigating that case? She saw those drug dealers back then. If she could give us some clues, we'd have a breakthrough, right, Mr. Phillips?" Declan Ross, sitting next to Doyle, suggested, which made Doyle furious.
"What, Austin's dead, and you want to send his only daughter into the fire? Declan, you're a cop, not an executioner! Do you know what Olivia went through back then? If it were you, after being tortured by drug dealers for seven days and nights, would you want to go back to that place? You seem too comfortable just sitting in the office every day." Doyle snapped.
Declan was left speechless, feeling indignant but not daring to speak out. Doyle was also very disappointed in him. So the next day, Declan was transferred to a frontline post, and he was very unhappy about it.
"Mr. Cunningham, you can't be punishing me just because I said a few things about Olivia, right?" Declan protested.
Doyle looked up at Declan and sneered, "You think this is punishment? Declan, how many years have you been with me? Don't you know my temper by now?"
"I don't punish people out of spite. If I really didn't like you, I would've fired you long ago! Do you know your current state? You think you're above everyone else and don't care about other people's lives. Declan, do you understand your role?" Doyle added.
