Chapter 80: Cooking at Home
Violette shot a guilty glance at Autumn. It was already a miracle she could make it; the car was still waiting downstairs.
"I've got a few court cases to handle," Violette said. "Autumn, I might need you to look after Gwyneth a bit longer."
Autumn snorted and held out her hand. "I'll take care of her, but hand over your bank card."
Violette nodded, quickly pulled out her wallet from her briefcase, and handed it to Autumn. "You know the PIN. Take whatever you need. Please, Autumn, I'm begging you!" Violette's eyes were red with emotion. She was a career-driven woman, and in the past, she always relied on Autumn to handle Gwyneth's issues. But when she found out that Gwyneth almost died, she was filled with regret and guilt.
Autumn sighed, feeling quite helpless towards Violette. "Alright, go do what you need to do. I'll take care of Gwyneth, don't worry!"
Autumn continued, "Violette, can't you spend a little more time talking to Gwyneth? Do you think you're a qualified mother?"
Gwyneth lowered her head, holding a bowl in her hands, feeling very down.
Violette went over to hug Gwyneth, but before she could say anything, her phone rang. The constant ringing interrupted her tears.
Olivia chimed in, "Violette, if you need to go, go ahead. My mom and I are here. Gwyneth will be fine!"
Violette nodded, kissed Gwyneth on the forehead, and said, "Gwyneth, I'm sorry. Wait for me. I'll be back as soon as I'm done!"
When Gwyneth looked up, her eyes were filled with tears, making Autumn's heart ache.
"Gwyneth, why don't you cry in front of your mom? The more you act grown-up, the more you'll end up getting hurt," Autumn said.
Olivia went over and patted Gwyneth on the shoulder. The next moment, Gwyneth wiped her tears away and looked at Autumn with excitement. "Autumn, do you want to know how much money my mom has?"
Olivia was stunned by Gwyneth's sudden change in mood.
Autumn, however, laughed. "That's right. She's been earning quite a bit of money. Let's see how much this top lawyer has saved up!"
Gwyneth perked up and checked the balance on one of the bank cards with her phone, only to be shocked by the amount. "Autumn, is this real? Ten million dollars?"
"I didn't know your mom was this loaded!" Autumn said, equally surprised.
After Gwyneth checked the other cards, she was so happy she almost jumped up. "It's all mine! Olivia, I'm rich now!"
Olivia sighed, feeling a bit helpless. She hadn't expected Violette to have so much money. After a moment's thought, she quickly gathered the cards with the largest amounts and handed them to Autumn, leaving the one with the least amount for Gwyneth.
"What kind of rich person are you? If you had the money, you'd blow through it in no time, even if it's tens of millions of dollars! Alright, the rest will be kept by my mom, so don't even think about it."
Gwyneth didn't mind. The card with the least amount still had several hundred thousand dollars, which was enough for her.
Autumn sent Olivia home to rest. After staying up all night, Olivia looked quite tired.
She slept until the afternoon and then got up, planning to find something to eat. However, as she walked downstairs, she noticed several people sitting in the living room, causing her to pause on the steps.
"Olivia, you're home?" Ivan asked, looking a bit surprised.
In the living room were some familiar faces, including Henry.
Henry didn't expect to see Olivia in such a setting. He stood up and walked over, frowning as he looked at her. "How did you get so thin? Haven't you been eating properly?"
As Henry spoke, everyone except Ivan was stunned.
Doyle looked at Ivan in surprise. "Ivan, is Henry's girlfriend Olivia?"
Ivan sighed. "What nonsense are you talking about? They're just colleagues, and Autumn said Olivia can be with anyone but Henry!"
Ivan rarely showed such pride, feeling very pleased. Olivia, however, felt awkward, still in her pajamas. "I'm fine, just been dieting recently. If you have something to discuss, go ahead. I'll go upstairs and change!" Olivia said, starting to head upstairs, but Henry grabbed her arm.
"Have you eaten?" Henry asked.
Olivia shook her head. "I stayed at the hospital last night and just got back this morning to sleep. It's fine. I'll order takeout."
Henry's face darkened. "Go upstairs and freshen up. I'll make you something to eat!"
Olivia was surprised by his words. Henry sounded like he was the man of the house.
But before Olivia could say anything, Henry was already pushing her upstairs.
After Olivia left, Ivan glared at Henry, displeased. "Henry, this is my house!"
Henry retorted, "I know it's your house. Why don't you make Olivia something to eat?"
Ivan fell silent. He didn't know how to cook.
Then he watched as Henry took off his police uniform, swaggered into the kitchen, and even put on an apron. Soon, food was being served on the table. By the time Olivia came back downstairs after changing, Henry had already made several dishes.
Olivia's jaw dropped. There was no way she could finish all this food.
Henry said, "We just got off the plane. Everyone is hungry, so I made more. Let's eat together!"
Olivia didn't mind, but Ivan was furious. This was his house, yet Henry seemed more like the host.
Doyle found it amusing and sat down with his group, praising Henry's cooking. "Henry, I didn't expect you to be such a good cook. If it weren't for Olivia, we probably wouldn't have had the chance to enjoy this meal. Olivia, you're lucky to be with Henry!"
Olivia clumsily explained, "Mr. Cunningham, please don't say that. Mr. Phillips is my boss. We're just colleagues!"
Henry's face darkened.
Ivan was delighted and quickly served Olivia some food. "Eat up. We have something to discuss after you finish!"
Olivia still didn't eat any meat, and Henry noticed it.
"Olivia has become a vegetarian, so don't prepare any meat dishes in the future. She won't eat them!" Ivan said.
How could Olivia suddenly stop eating meat? Henry noticed Olivia's change and realized why she had lost so much weight. He felt a pang of concern for her.
"I'll make you some soup tonight, without meat!" Henry said.
Olivia nodded and started eating quickly.
After the meal, they sat in the living room to discuss some matters. Olivia opened the file on the table, and when she saw the photos inside, she suddenly stood up from the couch. "Rufus, his name is Rufus. He's a child-abusing pervert. Did you catch him?"
