Chap.113*Digging Graves*
"It was such a tiring day," Desmond mumbled, finishing his food that I've prepared for him. I don't think he knew that I've stolen Cierra’s number from his phone because he didn't seem to care about what I was doing on my cellphone.
"The storm is going to get worse, I heard." I murmured, looking outside the window. He came back late from his office and demanded to eat dinner soon as he was hungry.
I couldn't believe I was going to leave this man and walk away from him.
My announcement for weather made him look in the direction of the window and then narrow his eyes like he had zoned out or something.
"Umm! It looks like it will rain as well." He mumbled while not breaking the eye contact from the window.
"Desmond!" I voiced to get his attention. Why was it so hard to think of a life without him?
"Ayleen!" he finally twirled his neck to me and stared at me blankly.
"I love you," I hid the tears in my eyes but he was able to spot some of them in my eyes.
"I love you more, Ayleen." He smiled very sweetly, "I know things have been a little rough lately, but you know what? I was thinking about getting out of the house for some time. How about we go on a vacations?" He kept on smiling while watching my face in hopes.
"Sure, that'll do it." I responded back with a same smile.
"It's just, I'm tired of fighting, always trying to find ways for us to stay happy. I just wanna rest now, I wanna put my head in your lap and rest." He had few tears formed in his eyes and honestly speaking, it broke my heart to see him so broken.
Everything was going so well then why did he start making things difficult for us?
Why won't he let me speak to my sister? Why did he want to isolate me from everyone outside the mansion?
"We will find peace," I murmured, stretching my arm and resting my hand on his hand.
"Ayleen, please never stop trusting me." his words made me choke a little on my water but then I reclaimed my posture real quick and passed him a sweet smile.
"I will always trust you." I don't know how I managed to lie to him when he was watching my face with so much love and affection but I had to do it.
Sadly, my life had always been a Rollercoaster ride and to think I've to live without Desmond and my baby will grow up without him was even worst.
After we finished the food, Desmond helped me with the dishes. Together we did all the chores since he had given all the maids off early as the weather was getting worse and he feared for their transportation.
"Goodnight!" I uttered on his lips after kissing them. We both were ready to sleep in each other's arms. I had been thinking a lot about what my sister had told me.
It hadn't been 10 minutes and Desmond got up already.
"Where?" I asked him when found him getting out of the bed.
It didn't seem like he was sneaking out because he knew I was wide awake.
"I just remembered that I've some work pending, I'll go wind it up and join you." He responded with a bright smile across his lips.
"I can accompany you," I stated and was about to get out of the bed when he helped me tuck in again.
"No! It might take me even longer than few hours, this is an important project that I've to finish working on. You stay behind with Roy, the thunderbolts might scare him into waking up. So he needs his mother by his side when he wakes up." Desmond wasn't wrong though, he kissed my forehead and left the room while I laid back to doze off.
No! I'm not leaving Desmond.
I just realized that Desmond was highly protective about me, maybe that's why he didn't want to get in contact with my sisters because Garrett was the one who found this job for me and got me in all this mess.
So maybe he thought Garret was not a right choice to even be around me. He was taking me out on a vacations, so it wasn't like I wasn't allowed to leave the house. No way I could ever find someone as protective, caring and supporting than Desmond.
With that thought in my mind, I decided or go and speak to Desmond and talk to him about all the stuff I did behind his back. I knew he would get angry but then he will appreciate my decision of not leaving him.
The rain was so intense that it had already started to wash our sorrows away.
I left my room on tip toes to prevent Roy from waking up. I knew where Desmond would do his work.
"The library!" I mumbled and walked towards the library but only to find it completely empty.
A frown immediately appeared on my forehead to see it untouched, like no one has even walked through the door before me.
"Where did he go?" I asked myself, leaving towards the kitchen and that's where I saw Desmond walking out of the house with something in his hand. He was wearing a raincoat and the thing in his hand was half covered with the black trash bag.
I feared why he decided to leave on foot and where exactly was he headed to?
Without giving it a second thought, I started running towards the door to follow him.
My heart was pounding loudly in my chest while I kept tailing him in my night gown, all soaked in rain and getting cold.
He was headed towards the woods, the same woods I've told my sister to come meet me by, the same woods Priscilla lost her life and maybe the same woods, Henry was hiding.
My heart almost lost its beat when I recalled Henry's face. I can't imagine what I'll do if he pops out of the woods and grabs me.
Desmond was walking by the side of the road, while I was having a hard time catching up with his pace.
Once he reached a specific point, he began to get inside the woods. A bit traumatizing for me to be in those woods now, but I did tail him.
The rain was making my body to shiver out of cold but there was one good thing I got from the rain, that Desmond wasn't able to hear my footsteps behind him so I could easily follow him without getting caught.
Once he had reached the point he was walking towards, he halted and stood on the ground with his head lowered.
I instantly hid behind a tree and poked my head out to watch him. What was he doing? Why was he even here in such a bad weather, in the middle of the night?
I kept staring at him and my heart stopped beating when he slowly turned his attention away from the grass and to the thing in his hand. He unwrapped the trash bag from that thing and the mere sight of it gave me shivers.
It was a shovel!
Why did he bring a shovel here? What was he doing with that? Why need it?
So many questions and no answers to it. The only scary thing was that I knew why one would need a shovel.
Wasting no time, he started to dig through the ground.
"Arghh!" he muttered once a hand appeared, "I knew the bodies will come up," he bit the inside of his cheek, almost sucking his entire cheek inside and growled, "Stupid storm!" as he added, he dug a little and my eyes saw the most terrifying sight ever.
There were piles of bodies, one I could recognize was.
"Ava!" I mumbled under my breath in so much fear and shock.
