Chapter 39 There Is a Snake

Chapter 39 There Is a Snake

A scream rang out as Dorian stumbled and crashed hard to the ground.

By the time the Fox family members arrived, he was already pinned down by several security guards. His shirt had been stripped off, revealing the wound on his chest.

Cordelia stared at him coldly and asked, "Who told you to go to my room?"

Dorian kept his face blank and refused to talk.

Cordelia knew she wouldn't get anywhere questioning him like this.

She looked up at Julie, thinking to herself that first it was Ivy, then Dorian—Julie's luck wouldn't last forever. "Internal threats really are hard to detect. Tell me, is the salary I'm paying you not enough? How could you do something like stealing from your own employer?"

Jack was furious. If Cordelia hadn't insisted this time, he would have been completely fooled.

The thought struck him—he had a huge fortune, and aside from him, there were only three women in the house. If something really happened, it would be a massive scandal.

At this thought, he felt a wave of fear. No, the villa's security was too weak. He needed to get professionals from a security company.

Cordelia had no idea that Jack was already planning to transform The Fox Villa into a fortress. She glanced coldly at Julie—she would settle this score with Julie sooner or later!

Dorian was soon taken away by the police. The Fox Villa had been quite lively these past few days, with the police coming once a day. At this rate, the police were going to become regular visitors.

After the police left, Jack immediately started contacting security companies. Marigold, standing nearby, was terrified seeing him like this.

"Honey, what are you doing? Dorian's been arrested, can't we just let this go?"

"Let it go? No way, this can't just end like this!"

Jack walked out while making phone calls.

Seeing she couldn't stop Jack, Marigold hurried toward Julie's room.

Inside, Julie was pacing back and forth anxiously. Suddenly hearing a knock, she asked, "Who is it?"

"Open up, it's me."

Hearing Marigold's voice, Julie quickly opened the door. Marigold came in, closed the door, and complained, "This is your plan? You took way too big a risk!"

Julie was also uneasy. She hadn't expected Cordelia to be so capable—even Dorian was no match for her.

And that Dorian—they'd hired him as head of security precisely because he could fight. Who knew he'd turn out to be useless!

"Mom, I didn't think it would turn out like this."

Marigold waved her hand irritably. "Fine, it's too late now. Your father's already looking for people—he's probably going after Dorian. See if you can figure out a way to get Dorian to another city before your father does."

Snatch Dorian from the police? How was that possible?

Seeing Julie's troubled expression, Marigold said disappointedly, "Why are you so slow? Can't you just find someone to bail Dorian out of the police station?"

This reminded Julie. She murmured, "Let me think, let me think."

After a while, she slapped her forehead. "I've got it! I have a college friend who's a famous lawyer. I'll ask him to help."

"Then hurry up."

Marigold kept urging her. Julie quickly took out her phone and made a call. After a long while, she hung up and looked at Marigold, who was anxiously waiting for her response.

She quickly said, "It's done, no problem. He should be able to handle it."

"That's good, that's good!"

Marigold clutched her chest. "You need to stay on top of this. Best if he can bail Dorian out today. Your father absolutely cannot find out about this."

Julie nodded. "Okay, I got it."

A few days later, when Cordelia thought to ask about the results of Dorian's interrogation, she was shocked to learn that Dorian had been bailed out by a lawyer.

Bailed out? Cordelia was so angry she laughed. It had to be Julie again—she really had some nerve!

When Julie came home that evening, she was surprised to see Cordelia sitting on the living room sofa, apparently waiting for her.

Julie was in a great mood today. The Dorian situation had been resolved without any effort, and Ryan, who hadn't contacted her for several days, had reached out. They'd even had a sweet date today and just finished watching a movie.

In her good mood, Julie planned to ignore Cordelia when she saw her, but Cordelia had no intention of letting her off.

"Stop right there!"

Hearing the cold command, Julie turned around. "You calling me? What do you want?"

"Dorian was acting on your orders, wasn't he?"

Cordelia's words made Julie's throat go dry, but then she thought—Dorian had already left Harborview City. Even if Cordelia wanted to find him, she couldn't.

With this thought, she laughed sweetly. "Cordelia, what are you talking about? How could I possibly tell someone to harm you?"

"Haven't you done enough harm to me already?"

Cordelia stood up and took a few steps toward Julie, saying coldly, "The kidnapping, framing me for stealing, and sending someone to my room to steal—you were behind all of that, weren't you?"

"What nonsense!"

Julie was both shocked and angry, involuntarily stepping back.

"Cordelia, I think you've really lost it. There's a limit to talking nonsense. Keep spouting this garbage and I'll tell Dad."

"Go ahead, tell him."

Cordelia stared at her intently, making her back crawl with unease. "I'm not going to act crazy like you."

Julie finished speaking and headed upstairs.

Even after reaching her bedroom, she could still feel Cordelia's gaze following her. She shut the bedroom door tightly and patted her chest to comfort herself. "What's there to be afraid of? Cordelia can't find any evidence. Don't be scared, don't be scared!"

This self-comfort did help. Julie wasn't afraid anymore.

After dinner, Julie chatted with Ryan on the phone as usual, acting sweet for a while before turning off the light and going to sleep.

In the middle of the night, Julie suddenly sensed something was wrong. Something seemed to be crawling on her arm—something slippery and cold.

She reached up and pressed the bedside lamp. Only then did she see clearly that somehow a large group of snakes had appeared in her bedroom. One snake had even crawled onto her arm and was sticking out its tongue, staring at her.

Julie couldn't hold back any longer and screamed at the top of her lungs.
