Chapter 92 Chapter 92: We Must Get Divorced
It took Estelle a while to understand what he meant. Then she asked eagerly, “That is to say, you will come to see me in the daytime with the identity of a stranger, right?”
“Not exactly. Maybe we are not strangers.”
Estelle bit her lip and thought, ‘Does Mr. Mysterious means that we know each other?’
“Estelle, the truth you have longed to know may not be what you expect, but something that will make you painful.”
“I see. Sir, thank you.”
After the two of them ended the conversation, Rebecca hung up the phone and gently put it beside Estelle’s pillow.
“Estelle.”
“Huh?”
“Cristofer is outside. You were in a coma for three days, and he has been waiting outside. Do you want to see him?” Rebecca said.
Estelle shook her head and said, “I don’t want to see him anymore. We’ve signed the divorce agreement. Next, I’ll entrust a lawyer to help me go through the divorce procedures. I hope that when I pass away, I’ll be a free person rather than someone’s wife.”
Rebecca nodded heavily and said, “Okay. I’ll help you hire a lawyer.”
“No, thanks, Rebecca. My friend that takes care of Yohan in Ameris is a lawyer.”
“Then I’ll help you contact him.”
“And...” Estelle paused and signed. “Forget it. All stories have beginnings and ends. Just let Cristofer in. Our emotional entanglement has lasted for many years, and we should have broken up before. I was unwilling to give up on him in the past, but now I’ve come around. It’s time for me to make a clean break with him.”
Rebecca stood up and said, “Okay. Wait a minute. I’ll ask him to come in right now.”
When Rebecca left the ward, she saw Cristofer standing in a corner in a daze.
It had just been three days, but he didn’t look handsome and noble as he used to be but looked dejected and worn.
“Cristofer…” Seeing him like this, Rebecca gave up the thought of scolding him again and called his name gently. “Estelle wants to talk to you.”
Hearing this, Cristofer stiffened with a trace of resistance appearing in his eyes.
“Don’t you want to see her? Now she is willing to see you. Why are you hesitating?” Rebecca said.
Cristofer smiled bitterly and lowered his head. Then he saw his reflection on the polished floor and cursed himself, ‘You stupid, Cristofer.’
“I know what she is going to say to me,” Cristofer said in a low and hoarse voice full of depression.
In the past few days, all he could do was wait outside the ICU or smoke.
Smoking was not allowed in the hospital, so he could only go to the smoking room. Sometimes he would stay there for a long time and smoke one after another without restraint.
Rebecca said, “You deserve it. Since you know what she wants to say, then just do as she wants.”
‘Do as she wants? To divorce her, break off our relationship, and never contact her in the future? No, I’m not willing to do so,’ Cristofer thought bitterly.
“Cristofer, why are you still standing there? Don’t be timid and come with me. Estelle is waiting for you,” Rebecca urged him.
Cristofer had no choice but to stand straight, gently push the ward door open, and walk in.
At this time, only Estelle was in the intensive care unit. She was leaning against the headrest of the bed and looking out of the window, lost in thought.
Hearing the footsteps, she turned her head and saw Cristofer.
She looked calmly and quietly at him as if she was looking at someone who had nothing to do with her. But somehow, Cristofer could see a hint of hatred in her eyes.
After nodding at him as a greeting, she said, “You hurt me.”
Cristofer nodded and said with guilt, “Sorry. It’s all my fault. I got carried away by jealousy at that time. I didn’t mean to hurt you.”
“So, you will pay for the medical fees for me,” Estelle said in a businesslike manner. “You ought to do this.”
Instead of feeling upset, Cristofer was somewhat pleased with her attitude. At least judging from her tone and expression, he could see that she was much better than before.
“Okay. You don’t have to worry about the money. I will also pay the medical fees for your mother. You may rest assured.”
“No, thanks. Someone has paid her medical fees for me,” Estelle informed him.
Feeling a sense of loss, Cristofer raised his head and asked with his eyes full of frustration, “Is it ‘Mr. Mysterious’?”
After hesitating for several seconds, Estelle nodded and said, “Yes.”
“Is he good to you?”
“He’s treating me well,” Estelle said. Then, after a pause, she added, “At least he treats me better than you do. That’s enough.”
“That’s good,” Cristofer said with a bitter smile. “You want to divorce me and be with him, right?”
Estelle shook her head and denied, “I don’t want to be with anyone. Mr. Mysterious has helped me a lot. I just want to repay him when I’m alive by staying by his side.”
“Can we not get divorced?”
“What?” Estelle’s eyes widened.
Cristofer gently held her hand and said in a pleading tone, “Estelle, if you want to be with him in the last days of your life, I won’t stop you. But can we not get divorced?”
Without hesitation, Estelle pulled her hand out of his palm and refused him resolutely, “I’ve made up my mind.”
“Do you have to divorce me?”
“Yes,” she emphasised, “We must get divorced.”
“What if I can find out the truth of the car accident as soon as possible? Estelle, we used to be so intimate and affectionate. It was the sudden car accident that changed our lives. I’ve been reinvestigating it. Trust me. I’ll find out the truth soon and give you an explanation,” Cristofer said sincerely.
However, instead of being moved, Estelle was bitterly disappointed when hearing this.
“Cristofer, it has been six years since the car accident happened. And we’ve been a couple for six years. Except for the past year, I have tried to explain to you about the accident countless times, but you never believed me. You even didn’t want to talk to me, and you wanted to get rid of me.
