Chapter 34 Chapter 34: What The Heck Is Wrong With Him?
Estelle suddenly thought of the mysterious man. He was the only one who remembered her birthday this year.
“Here we are, Miss,” The taxi driver said as he pulled over, wrenching Estelle’s mind back to the present.
Looking at the taximeter, Estelle took out some money from her wallet and handed it to him.
The driver gave her the change and asked, “Miss, are you here to get divorced?”
Estelle smiled and said, “Yes.”
“Think twice and talk with your husband. Maybe you’ll be reconciled after the talk,” The driver smiled at her.
Estelle knew that he said these words out of kindness.
However, too many things were involved in her relationship with Cristofer, and their marriage was doomed to end. It was hard to tell who owed the other more.
Since they couldn’t maintain their marriage, it was better to divorce as soon as possible and cut off all their ties.
“Thank you, sir,” Estelle thanked the driver, opened the car door, and exited the taxi. Then she walked towards Cristofer’s car.
But just as she took a step, Cristofer started the car and drove away.
What the heck is wrong with him? Estelle wondered.
With a frown, she dialed his number.
“What is it!?” Cristofer’s voice came in with an angry tone.
“Cristofer, why did you leave? I’ve arrived at the Court,” Estelle stated.
“I... I have something urgent to deal with. I have to go back to the company immediately.”
“Then when will we go through the divorce procedure?”
“... It depends. I’ll call you when I’m free. I’ll hang up.” After finishing his words, Cristofer hung up the phone quickly, took off the earphone, and threw it aside irritably.
Suddenly, his phone rang again.
He answered the phone without looking at the caller ID and roared impatiently, “I said I didn’t have time to go through the divorce procedures today! So why are you still calling me?”
“Cristofer, what’s wrong with you?” It was Gretchen’s voice.
Cristofer was stunned. Feeling embarrassed, he cleared his throat and softened his tone, saying, “Hi, Gretchen.”
Gretchen sensed that he was in a bad mood and guessed the reason. She asked gently, “Are you busy these days?”
“Yes.”
“Have a rest if you are tired. Take care of yourself,” Gretchen encouraged him.
“Okay.”
“Cristofer, how is Yvonne? I have thought about it. Men may not be as considerate as women in caring for the baby. How about I go to the Hans’ Residence to help you look after Yvonne? Yvonne is so cute, and I like her very...”
“No, thanks,” Cristofer refused her directly, “Your ankle hasn’t recovered, and you need to rest well. Don’t worry about Yvonne. Luke will take care of her.”
“Okay.”
“Anything else? If not, I’ll hang up. I’m driving,” Cristofer’s voice was abandoning their conversation.
“Hold on,” Gretchen hastened to stop him, “My mother’s birthday is coming next week. I want you to return home with me to attend her birthday party.”
“I’m afraid I won’t be free that day. I’ll be very busy next week,” Cristofer refused instantly, leaving no room for negotiation.
However, Gretchen immediately tried to convince him, “My mother’s birthday is on the weekend. The party won’t take much of your time.”
Cristofer, who had calmed himself down, thought that he’d better not refuse Gretchen.
After all, he had promised Gretchen to marry her, but now he can’t get divorced and has to break his promise. Thinking about it, he felt guilty and didn’t have the heart to decline her request.
“Okay. I’ll go with you,” He finally agreed.
Gretchen was overjoyed and said, “Really? Cristofer, it’s so kind of you.”
“Well, you must prepare a gift for her first. Pay with my card. You know the password already.”
“Okay. Thank you, Cristofer.”
“I’ll hang up now. It’s dangerous to talk on the phone while driving.”
“Well... Cristofer, I have another question to ask you.”
“Go ahead.”
“You said that you would marry me. You were not lying, right?”
Cristofer swallowed, opened his mouth, and wanted to say something. But the next moment, he swallowed back the words on the tip of his tongue.
Actually, he was not sure if he still wanted to marry Gretchen. He didn’t want to lie to her, but he also didn’t want to break her heart by telling the truth.
After a while, he said, “Don’t think too much. Didn’t you take fancy to a handbag when we were in Milan? I’ll buy it and ask someone to send it to you by air.”
Knowing that he was deliberately changing the topic, Gretchen was angry.
However, she couldn’t lose her temper and had to pretend to be considerate and obedient.
“Thank you, Cristofer,” She calmly mentioned.
After hanging up the phone, Gretchen quickly threw the phone on the ground furiously.
Didn’t Cristofer and Estelle agree to get divorced? Why did Cristofer suddenly change his mind? Estelle must have said something to Cristofer!

I must get married to Cristofer as soon as possible. He started to reinvestigate the car accident six years ago. If he knows the truth, I’ll be doomed. I can’t just sit here and do nothing.
In the following week, Estelle lived a peaceful and busy life.
Aurora was getting better and better.
Estelle accompanied her to the hospital during the day and went to Room 1231 of the Grand Hotel of Hadale City at night to work as a devoted substitute.
One day, she went to the supermarket and bought some food materials before going to the hotel.
Aurora had been eating the food provided by the hospital recently and was a little tired of it. Besides, she needed a nutritional supplement.
Therefore, Estelle bought a chicken to make chicken soup for her. She planned to cook in the hotel room and take the chicken soup to the hospital the following day.
When she got to the room, the mysterious man was not there so she cooked while waiting for him.
She was focusing on cooking when the mysterious man came and wrapped his arms around her waist from behind.
“Are you cooking?” He asked gently.
Estelle was startled and stiffened when she heard his voice. Then she said in a hurry, “Sir, I’m sorry. I used the kitchen without your permission. My mother...”
“Shush,” The man interrupted her and held her in his arms. “It doesn’t matter. Feel free to cook here.”
“Thank you, sir.”
“What did you cook? It smells good.”
“Chicken soup,” Estelle said, “Have you had dinner? Would you like to have some?”
“Yes, I’d love to,” The man said after a pause.
Estelle struggled slightly in his arms, but the man didn’t let her go.
“Sir...”
“Huh?”
“If you don’t let go of me, I can’t ladle the soup for you,” Estelle reminded him.
The man chuckled and then let go of her.
Before she could turn around, the lights in the kitchen were instantly turned off, and the whole room instantly fell into darkness.
“Sorry, I can’t let you see my face for the time being,” The man said.
“All right,” Estelle nodded and said. “But there is no light, and I can’t see anything. How can I serve you the soup?”
“I’ll do it myself,” The man said as he took her hand and led her to the dining room.
Then he pulled out the chair and pushed her to sit on it. “I’m used to living in darkness. I’ll do it myself.” He added.
