“Cristofer, I have something to tell you.”
“Uncle Nelson, I also have something to tell you.”
Nelson stared at Cristofer intently for a while and then suddenly chuckled. “Cristofer, you should know what I’m going to say.”
Cristofer nodded.
“As you know, I have no children. I’ve been in the business world for most of my life, and now I’m tired of it. I want to retire early and live a peaceful life in the future.”
With his head lowered, Cristofer didn’t say anything.
“Cristofer, for so many years, you are the only ideal person that I think can be my heir. In the past, I helped you make a comeback and paved the way for your career. And in the future, I will continue to support you and will let you take over my company after I retire,” Nelson said with a meaningful smile and took a sip of the coffee. “I remember that back then, you promised me that you would focus on your career and will never be entangled with any woman. But you seem to have forgotten that.”
With a cold expression, Cristofer took a deep breath and said, “Uncle Nelson, I’m grateful to you for your help six years ago.”
“And then?” Nelson asked with a smile. “Cristofer, women are all liars. That woman deceived you before and left you. She came back to you just because you are rich. Don’t believe her. And don’t be fooled by her again!”
When Cristofer heard this, his face changed slightly. He knew the woman Nelson was referring to was Estelle, but he chose to play dumb and said calmly, “Uncle Nelson, even if Gretchen lied to me, I can’t break up with her because she is pregnant with my child now.”
“Cristofer, don’t try to hide everything from me,” Nelson said.
“I never hide anything from you, Uncle Nelson.”
“Really?” Nelson said. “Cristofer, I know you care about that woman very much. You are still young and may be blinded by the so-called love. But when you are my age, you will understand that the so-called love you value most now is just a tool that women always use to deceive men.”
“When I was young, I was deceived by a woman and almost died because of her. Fortunately, I was lucky enough and survived. Since then, I devoted myself to my career and finally become successful. Cristofer, be rational, and don’t let your life run by that woman again!”
“Uncle Nelson, I’m sorry I may let you down. I come here today to tell you that I’m not the right candidate to take over your company. You’d better find another heir,” Cristofer said gently.
“But the fact shows that you are the best candidate! I only gave you one million dollars of the start-up capital. But in just a few years, you’ve made Hans International Corporation one of the biggest companies in Hadale. Cristofer, you are a business genius. I can’t bear to see your career destroyed by that woman!”
“Uncle Nelson, I really love her and want to be with her. I have lost her once. And I don’t want to lose her again. Besides, she is not the kind of greedy person who covets my money.”
“Cristofer!” Nelson shouted as he pounded the desk and stood up, unable to hold back his anger anymore. “If she is not, then why did she leave you after the car accident?”

“Did she say that to you? She was lying!” Nelson said and then walked slowly toward Cristofer with his crutch.
He pointed at his artificial legs and continued emotionally, “I lost my legs because I believed in a woman’s lie! She said that as long as I helped her repay her debt, she would be with me! But what did she do then? She took my money away and ran away with another man!”
“Estelle won’t do such a thing to me,” Cristofer said firmly.
“All the women in the world are the same! Both Estelle and Gretchen have deceived you! Have you forgotten that? Women are born liars. Don’t believe them!”
“Estelle is not.”
“Cut the crap,” Nelson said, raising his hand to motion Cristofer to stop talking. “Don’t forget that you still have to do two things for me.”
“Uncle Nelson.” Cristofer frowned.
With great difficulty, Nelson walked back to the chair as the hand with which he held the crutch kept trembling. When he finally sat down on the chair, he breathed a sigh of relief.
“The second thing I want you to do is to break up with Estelle. I know such a requirement is cruel, and you will feel pain. So, as compensation, I will help you find the evidence of Gretchen’s crime so that you can avenge your parents’ death.”
It was already past seven o’clock in the evening when Cristofer came out of the Grand Hotel of Hadale City. The night had fallen, and the street was ablaze with lights.
Taking a deep breath, he got into the car and drove back to Rose Garden.
He had promised Estelle that he would go home early for dinner. And he would meet Yohan as his father for the first time.
As usual, he parked the car downstairs, lit a cigarette, and smoked slowly to make his voice hoarse.
Then he stood in the cold wind for half an hour until the smell of smoke on his clothes disappeared.
After that, he wore cologne and entered the building, and pressed the elevator button.
Suddenly, his phone beeped.
‘Dad, when will you come back? Mom cooked a lot of delicious dishes today!’
Seeing the message, Cristofer was a little stunned and then smiled.
‘Yohan is always well-behaved. Without Estelle’s permission, he wouldn’t have taken the liberty of using her phone and texting me. Therefore, it must be Estelle who asked him to text me.’
‘So many years have passed, and Estelle hasn’t changed at all. She’s still the shy girl she used to be. She wants me to go home early but is embarrassed to urge me, so she asked Yohan to send such a message.’
Thinking about this, Cristofer was in a better mood and then replied to the message.
‘Yohan, ask your mom to open the door.’
As soon as he sent the message, the elevator door was opened and then he walked back to the apartment.
Maybe it was because Estelle and he had chemistry with each other that when he was about to knock at the door, the door was opened from the inside by Estelle.
