Chapter 45 Jealous
Chapter 45 Jealous
SIENNA
Our chests heaved up and down as we struggled to catch our breath after a round of pounding and banging on the office table. He helped me sit on it properly.
With erratic breaths, his eyes swayed over my body as though still digesting the satisfaction he’d just gotten. They glinted with unquenched hunger and lust.
My gaze lowered as I grew shy beneath those stares.
Leaning closer, he placed a hand on the space beside me and towered over me. Our eyes met. My breath suddenly hitched, and my throat desiccated.
“Other men are your enemies, Sienna,” he whispered, his gaze darting from my face to my still-naked body. I clutched my chest as if my hands were enough to cover me.
I swallowed.
“It’s a sin to take anything from them,” he continued, his face moving closer. “You’re prohibited from talking to other men.” He pressed his lips against mine but pulled back almost instantly.
Heat crawled to my face, and my nipples tingled at the little gesture. I bit my lower lip, disappointed at how shameless I’d become because of Lucien. I couldn’t even withstand an ordinary kiss.
“Do you understand me, Sienna?” His face was only an inch away from mine. I gulped, searching his eyes for what was obviously not missing.
“I… What about my male colleagues at work?” I stammered, blinking at every word.
For seconds, he just stared as if trying to find the befitting response to my question. Afterward, he swirled his tongue over his lips and shifted backward. Gosh! My throat bobbed as I fought the urge to kiss those lips. No matter how many times I tasted them, they never got old. Every time, they tasted different and fresh. Would I be stupid if I confessed that my boss was a hundred times different and better than my ex-husband?
“Okay. You can talk to your colleagues at work, except…” He paused and threw me a knowing look. “…Ethan,” he added.
I breathed out and let out a scoff.
“That’s impossible,” I muttered. “He might be my ex-husband, but he’s also my colleague at work.”
Something dark and unreadable flashed across his eyes when I made the statement, but he didn’t react immediately. Instead, he tucked his hands into his pockets and nodded.
“That means I have to sack him for my own peace of mind,” he nonchalantly muttered, as if he wasn’t just talking about ruining a man’s source of income.
My eyes widened, and my lips parted.
“No way, Lucien,” I responded after finding my voice. “You will not ruin another man for your own peace of mind.”
His brows creased, and a smirk appeared at the corner of his lips. “What? Do you pity him because he’s your ex-husband?”
I countered almost immediately. “What? No.”
He closed the space between us and snatched my waist in a grip. He pulled me closer, our faces only half an inch apart. I could feel his warm breath slapping the tip of my nose. My heart skipped a beat. I pursed my lips so I could suppress my emotions.
“So why are you stopping me from sacking him?” he let out in a breathy whisper.
I swear, his voice rushed down my spine, sending a salacious sensation over me. And suddenly, it didn’t seem like we’d just made out seconds ago. I wanted him again. I couldn’t shift my eyes away from those lips that looked like they were almost meeting mine, but for some reason, they couldn’t bridge the little gap in between.
“Answer me, kitten,” he grunted softly.
My throat bobbed as I blinked. “I… I… I just think it’s going to be a misuse of power.”
Truthfully, it would be perfect if Ethan were to be sacked from this company. At least, I wouldn’t have to see his horrible face every day and wouldn’t have to be reminded of how lowly I stooped to settle for a man like him, but I think that would be unfair to me. I didn’t want to ruin him with another man’s power. I wanted to ruin him with mine. Make sure he realizes how I rose above him and make him pay for the betrayal, pain, and humiliation.
“Mmmm,” he grunted and then shifted backward. I inhaled loudly. “You’re protecting him, kitten. Why? Old feelings never die?”
“No, Lucien.” I tilted my gaze to him. “No. That’s not it. Trust me, I want his downfall more than anyone on earth, but not easily. Sacking him means granting him an easy escape. I don’t want that,” I explained.
Studying me for a few seconds, he smiled sheepishly and wrapped his arms around me.
“Sorry for getting you so worked up. I just couldn’t bear the sight of him beside you.”
Fluttering waves rushed over me like a tide. The frustration I felt seconds ago dissipated, and my lips curled into a saccharine smile. At least, Lucien was jealous when he saw me with other men just like I was when I saw him with other women. For the first time since doubts started rising in my mind, a seed of hope bloomed within me. Maybe… just maybe we were already making progress in our undefined relationship.
I chuckled and embraced him. His fingers raked through my hair as he rested his chin at the center of my head. The moment felt like an answered prayer. Being in a room with Lucien and embracing each other while sinking into our different thoughts.
My boss was everything I wanted. Still, a part of me was scared. The deeper I fell, the more painful it would be if this was nothing but a fling to him.
Am I doing the right thing?
