Chapter 52 Evil Behind Her Smile
Chapter 52 Evil Behind Her Smile
Anna bopped her head absentmindedly, staring at him in a daze.
‘’H—How can I help?’’ She asked, watching as he pulled away from her and stood up, his legs drumming against the floor gently as he headed back for his chair.
A small sigh escaped Anna’s lips as the hot air was now replaced with cold air.
‘’I’ll let you know when. You can leave.’’ He uttered, his whole expression taking a three-sixty.
Anna had initially thought he happy for some weird reasons.
But then his face looked hard and unwelcoming.
She immediately got to her feet, turning around to leave the room.
‘’Get up early and go to work tomorrow.’’ She heard Alex said.
She turned around, giving a curt nod before wrapping her arms around the knob and pulling it open.
She walked out of the room, letting out a breath she didn’t realize she was holding.
It was so suffocating being in his space and she hadn’t realized that until today.
‘’Ouch!’’ She winced, her shoulders colliding with an hard figure.
She almost fell to the floor but the figure grabbed her, steadying her in place.
‘’Mother!’’ Anna uttered, staring up at Gigi who had an annoyed look on her face.
She had basically used all her strength to steady Anna.
‘’So sorry. I wasn’t thinking straight.’’ Anna said again, scratching the back of her head as she corked Gigi an apologetic smile.
Gigi stared at her, a sly smirk curling up her lips.
She fought the urge to be amused, deciding to let this slip past her for today.
‘’Oh it’s fine my daughter. I didn’t know you guys were back from your trip.’’ She muttered, her annoyed face morphing into a sad one.
‘’Nobody informs me about anything around here.’’ She uttered again, her words making Anna feel guilty.
She suddenly felt bad about how she had been treating Alex mother.
She probably went through all the trouble to get her step-mother to not send Alex that video and she hadn’t thanked her nor informed her about their arrival back in New York.
She gave Gigi an apologetic smile. ‘’I’m so sorry about that mother-in-law. I should have informed you sooner. Hope you can find a way to forgive me?’’ She asked, giving Gigi a doe eyes that can make anybody in the world break and end up doing her bidding.
But not Gigi.
Her ears hurt so bad from hearing the word ‘mother-in-law’ and she was struggling so bad to keep her anger in check by biting at the insides of her cheeks, the metallic taste of blood filling her mouth.
Tightening her hands into fist, drawing blood.
She had lost a lot of blood since she bumped into what she now called ‘her worst nightmare’.
She swallowed the blood and the bile that was once stuck in her throat.
A smile broke across her lips as she waved a dismissive hand in the air. ‘’Of course I forgive you.’’ She uttered, moving to take Anna’s hands.
‘’To show you that, I’d also love to take you shopping. I’ve never experienced shopping with my son’s wife before.’’ She uttered, hoping Anna could read behind her word about Alex having another wife before. And how she was replaceable.
But Anna didn’t.
If it was before, she would have 100% read every meaning behind Gigi’s words.
Saw every evil behind her smile.
But now, she didn’t have anything against Gigi anymore.
If anything, she was indebted to her.
‘’I’d love to go shopping with you! On the weekends though.’’ She uttered, patting Gigi’s hands that were still covering hers.
Gigi quickly pulled her hands away gently, her words coming in a small as she whispered. ‘’What about t—the…’’ She stuttered, trying to act coded.
Anna stared at her, confusion etched in her face.
Then she finally understood, the words clicking in her head again.
‘’The recorder?’’ She asked, making Gigi nod, staring around to make sure nobody had heard her conversation with Anna.
Anna chuckled, staring at how nervous Gigi looked.
‘’It’s upstairs in the room. Let me go grab it really quickly.’’ She uttered, walking past Gigi and heading up the stairs.
Gigi stared at her figure get lost in the room, her jaws ticking angrily.
If she had known that Anna would carelessly leave something that could implicate her in her room, she would have raided her room instead of even bothering with Anna’s mother.
But then she smiled evilly, happy that she had gotten to Anna’s mother.
Unless, how could she secure something this important?
A trump card that she would use against Anna sometime in the future.
She giggled to her self, her head filled with all kind of thoughts on how she would execute and unleash her plans on Anna.
She didn’t even realize when the door to Alex study opened and when he came in front of her, staring at her weirdly.
‘’Are you okay?’’ Alex asked, eyeing his mother from head to toe.
Gigi jumped backwards, clutching her thumping heart. ‘’Oh my God you scared me!’‘ She shouted, her hand slowly falling to her side as she tried to steady her beating heart.
‘’Did you do something wrong?’’ Alex asked, eyeing her.
Gigi stepped back a bit, her thoughts going wild again.
Had Anna perhaps played him the recording?
That sly fox!
‘’O—Of course. Did someone say something to you?’’ She asked, her heart beating erratically as she waited for his answer.
His legs were rooted to the floor, his eyes laced on her, probably judging.
‘’Did Ann—‘’
‘’No. Nobody said anything. I just figured you had to be hiding something with the way you were smiling. Did you win a lottery or something?’’ He asked, finally averting his gaze from hers.
Gigi breathed a sigh of relief.
‘’Of course not.’’ She chuckled, waving a dismissive hand at him.
Alex nodded, opening the door to his study and closing it behind him.
Gigi heaved a sigh for the second time, knowing she would have had an heart attack any moment.
What was taking Anna so long anyways?!
She reached for the stairs, her heels ramming against the soft tiles as she headed for Anna and Alex’s shared room.
The door was slightly opened and she could see Anna panting while shuffling through the clothes in her closet.
Clothes were scattered around the room while sweat dripped by the side of her head.
Gigi’s head furrowed.
She pushed the door open, her movement startling Anna.
Her eyes went wide as she stared at Gigi, guilt racking her face.
Gigi quickly closed the door behind her, her eyes scanning the room’s new interior.
‘’What is going on?’’ She asked, her eyes finally landing on Anna whose body was now shaking uncontrollably.
Gigi was trying hard to not let her thoughts take her where it wanted to.
She was trying reallyyy hard.
But why could she already tell what Anna was going to say before she even said it?
‘’I—I can’t find the recorder.’’
