Chapter 49 The library
Chapter 49 The library
Morning came and they all flew back to New York.
The first thing Anna noticed was the empty house.
Alex mother was nowhere to be found.
She wanted to thank her for putting her mother in place.
Ever since she sent Gigi after her, she had not received any messages or threats from her.
It was so good putting her in that position.
‘’You should take a rest today and resume work to tomorrow.’’ Alex said, draping his suit over his shoulders.
It hasn’t even been up to a few minutes since they landed.
Being a CEO wasn’t as easy as people actually thought it was.
She nodded, watching him walk out of the room in quick strides.
Her heart bubbled as she laid on the bed, her eyes closing in exhaustion.
By the time she woke up, it was already a bit late.
She jumped out of her bed, her legs hurriedly going to the washroom.
Turning on the faucet, Anna poured some cold water on her face, staring at her reflection in the mirror.
She looked like shit!
She headed for the shower, turning it on.
The warm water poured down her body, ridding her of all the emotional and physical stress she’d suffer in Venezuela.
‘’Feels good.’’ She muttered, her hands pressed against the wall as the water flowed.
She turned off the shower and headed out, draping a towel over her chest.
She shuffled for clothes in the closet, finally picking a less flashy dress and draping it on.
‘’HM Zita?’’ She called out, walking in quick strides as she went down the stairs.
Today was going to be her only free day from work.
She wanted to at least enjoy it to the fullest.
‘’HM Zita?’’ She called out again, her eyes searching as she walked into the kitchen.
A frown fell over her face when she saw no sign of HM Zita nor the other maids.
Was today was kind of off day for everyone?
The knot on her head loosened at that thought as she made to whip up something before heading out.
She placed a pan on the gas, pouring the already whisked eggs in.
She scrambled the eggs before roasting some bread and carrying her plate to the dining table.
‘’Hmmm’’ She moaned, inhaling the beautiful glory.
Her mouth watered as she stared at the food, a hum breaking out of her lips as she waited for it to cold.
When it finally did, she dug her fork in, placing it into her mouth.
She did another happy dance like she’d just won the lottery, a victorious smile breaking across her lips as she inwardly praised herself.
‘’Such a chef!’’ She muttered, swallowed the big bite of egg and slightly burnt up bread.
But Anna didn’t mind.
It was the best food she’d ever done.
She tidied up the dining time and took her plates to the kitchen, washing them.
She walked back to the dining and picked up her bag, draping it over her shoulders.
She grabbed a key from the drawers and pulled the door open, heading for the car Alex has given her.
She pressed on the car keys and the headlight blinked twice, indicating that the door was open.
Sighing, Anna hopped in, driving towards the library.
Ever since she got married to Alex, she had barely been able to go to the library.
Or rather, ever since her father died.
She used to go to the library with him all the time.
They’d just go there to have fun, scan books and pick a few just for the aesthetics of it.
After his death, she was asked or rather forced to never step in there again.
Because according to her step-mother, her father’s insurance wasn’t enough to feed talk less of getting spent on stupid things.
She scoffed, tightening her hands against the steering wheels.
She pulled up just in front of a library and got out, her eyes darting around.
It had been so long she came here, she didn’t know what to do first.
She walked closer to the front door, her heart hammering against her chest painfully.
Breathing, she reaching for the door knob.
But instead, someone pushed her, opening the door quickly.
Anna’s eyes widened in shock as she fell to the floor, her butt kissing it hard.
She could still feel the person’s touch against her skin.
Not a big palm.
A small one had surprisingly succeeded in pushing her down.
‘What a rude kid!’ She thought, struggling to get back on her feet.
She finally did, dusting what little speck of dust that latched unto her clothing.
She pushed open the library door and waltzed in, heading over to the librarian.
‘’Can I know where the romance section is? Id just love to grab a few books.’’ She said, her eyes scheming over the old man.
He had grey all over his head, his eyes stuck on a news letter while his glasses where drawn to the bridge of his nose, his eyes rooted to what he was doing.
Hearing her voice, he stared up at her.
‘’Yes. Row 3. Top shelf. You should be able to grab your preferences there.’’ He responded, steadying his glasses against his nose properly.
He passed her a card and a book so she could scribble her name on it.
Anna obliged, scribbling her name on the book before giving the man a curt nod.
She moved to the romance section, her eyes scheming for some 18+ romance books.
Her eyes widened as she saw a little kid of about seven years tiptoeing, her hands stretched out as she tried to reach for a book.
She walked closer, her eyes widening more as she stared at the book the kid was trying to get.
18+!
Alarmed, she reached to stop the kid.
‘’Do you know those books are for adults?’’ She asked, making the little girl’s eyed snap to hers.
For a moment, Anna became breathless.
She was the most beautiful child she’d ever seen.
If only jeffery hadn’t fucked up, she would have gotten something as adorable as this.
She crouched down to the girl’s level, finally realizing that she was also the one that had pushed her.
She chuckled, moving to touch her hair.
But the little girl was quick to back away, her face holding a frown.
She didn’t look good wearing that expression.
Instead, she reminded her of a particular person.
She frowned.
‘’How about I tell you to the kiddies section to get a few books?’’ Anna asked, a smile breaking across her lips.
She watched the girl stare into her face unmoving, her face contemplating.
‘’No thank you. I’m not a kid.’’
