Chapter 99 Ninety nine
AMELIA XAVIER
I sat in the sitting room watching the news, cameras flashed at the dead bodies that lay scattered around the woods. The police blocked the area saying investigations were going on as the news reporters relayed the reports of so many deaths in one night.
My mind drifted to last night when we marched to the woods to kill Ari's men. Father was right when he meant that Ari might not show up, but she was just a step ahead of us which made me question our so called loyal allies. Someone was probably feeding her with our plans for her to sabotage every one of them.
Rage boiled within me and I angrily switched off the TV hating the sight of those bodies. I had prayed everything would end that night, but it only grew worse by the second.
Owen was in hospital and wasn't allowed to leave which would delay our attack and give that moron a chance to be ahead of us.
I wanted to bolt out the door, meet her and strangle her to death if I could. Then I remembered something.
When Owen handed us our weapons, I requested for a tracker and when he asked about it, I told him it was personal.
One of the reasons I ran leaving Owen during the fight in the woods was to put a tracker on one of Ari's men.
As I fought the men in black, my eyes searched for one who had grit and would survive the fight and lucky for me I found one. I placed the tracker behind his ear and prayed he'd survive.
If the man survived then I was at an advantage and wasn't going to just sit there and wait for Owen to get better. I had promised to kill that woman for making my life this way and I intended to keep that promise.
The tracking device was at Owen's study and all I needed to do was check if he survived and where he was at.
He looked like one of Ari's favourite people and was most likely with her — serving her.
I headed to Owen's study all the while praying he was still breathing — just long enough for me to kill him myself. I opened the door and walked in taking in the warmth of the room.
Dangerous memories filled my mind and I felt nostalgic when I stared at the table. My mind wandered off to the periods we had sex in his study. The way he lifted me on his table. The way his hands grasped my breast and stroked it hard enough for me to moan. I imagined his strong hands as he grabbed my waist and whispered sweet things in my ears while I watched his muscles flex.
The mere thought of him stirred a strange hunger in me. My nipples hardened and I bit down at my lip.
I shook the thought away, reminding myself I needed to stay focused on my mission.
Going to his computer, I typed in his password and clicked the number that was written on the tracker since Owen kept tabs on so many people. Immediately, a file popped up and my hopes went high. If the file opened that meant the mysterious guy was alive and we were a step ahead of Ari Xavier.
I clicked the file and what I saw brought a wide smile on my face — the location of the device.
He survived the fight.
I had never been this happy that an enemy survived our attack, but it was for a greater cause.
Quickly I took the tracking device that I just figured out was hidden in one of his many closets and was set to leave.
A thought came to my mind and I realized how rashly I behaved. I needed to call my father to inform him about the tracker to keep myself safe.
I took out my phone and dialled father's number, he answered on the first ring.
“Is there a problem, sweetheart?” He asked, concern and urgency written in his voice.
I smiled at how important I meant to him.
“No, but I called to tell you that I'm leaving to find Ari,” I said and the line went quiet for a while.
“Baby are you crazy? How the fuck are you going to do that?” He asked, his voice deep and hard.
“I put a tracker on one of her men while we fought in the woods and I'll follow that. I called to tell you about it. I need reinforcement, but I want to head alone first,” I answered requesting for a hand.
“No.”
No?
Father didn't like the thought of me going to meet her alone, but I wasn't a child anymore. He saw the way I fought off the enemies and I wasn't doing this to prove anything to him — every move I made was purely personal.
“Then I'll have to go alone. Bye,” I said with finality and made to hang up, but he stopped me.
“Just be careful, I'll get my men ready, send me the location. I think it's better that way. Ari would be in for a surprise, sweetheart. Stay safe,” he said which brought a smile to my face.
“I will dad.”
Beep.
He ended the call.
I needed more weapons because all I had was a pistol and a two edged knife.
Owen had an armory in this study. Don't ask me how I knew — I was that smart.
I walked to one of the bookshelves in the room, and removed a book, the shelf clicked and moved sideways giving me an entrance.
It was evident that Owen would have somewhere like this. He was a Winter and they dealt with a lot of weapons though mostly guns.
I stepped into the room, stunned at the amount of weapons that were stacked to the wall.
Taking out a gun, I examined it. I wasn't very good at identifying guns, but I knew this one was powerful and portable.
Positioning the gun, I aimed it at a board that hung on the wall and fired. The bullet hit the board breaking into it without making much sound.
I smirked, hanging it on my shoulder.
I opened a suitcase and took out a smaller gun with the magazines and tucked it in my leg belt.
Other weapons amazed me as well, father would be so proud of me for falling in love with a deadly criminal.
