Chapter 98 Ninety Eight
OWEN WINTERS
The forest was thick, the moonlight barely touching the branches above our heads. Amy stuck close to me, her hands clutching the pistol waiting for any sudden movement.
There was none.
Either they wanted to ambush us or Dylan was wrong, but as we almost gave in to the fact that no one was coming, there was a loud gunshot. Amy and I ducked as Ari Xavier's men came out from the deep woods surrounding us.
“It's time,” I muttered as my men got ready racing towards them and attacking them.
Ari Xavier wasn't here as expected so we had to deal with these morons for the time being. I lunged at one, using the back of my gun to hit the nerve at his skull, he dropped to the ground with a loud thud, mud splattering over my shoes.
Amy aimed her gun at one man and fired mercilessly.
“Let's separate,” she muttered and before I could object, she had fled from me going in a different direction.
“Fuck you!” I cursed, planting my knee on one of Ari Xavier's men's stomach and shot at him. I ran to the front line, shooting at anyone dressed in black because we decided to wear white to differentiate friend from foe.
“Got him!” Someone yelled, coming at me with a knife. I ducked as he sliced the knife through the air. I punched his stomach and shot his head off.
My eyes searched for Amy but she was nowhere to be found, so I called Dylan to come with his men. Gliding through the rows of trees, I stabbed one of the men in black, firing at two another.
My muscles tensed, and a sharp pain seared through me making me grimace. My injury hadn't yet healed although I was taking drugs.
“I need to keep going,” I said through gritted teeth as I dug my knife into someone's throat screaming in pain.
My eyes suddenly caught a lady in white cutting off someone's head.
Amy.
I rushed towards her, slicing through anything and anybody in my way.
“Don't run away like that!” I yelled shooting at a certain man who lunged towards her.
“Behind you, stupid!”
Before I could react, Amy dug her poisoned knife in the person's gut.
“Merci,” I gasped as we fought hand in hand.
Dylan appeared just in time with his men and Kayla. I had never seen her fight, but one could never tell.
“You're late. Again,” I reprimanded, dodging a few blows, and smacking the goddamned man down before ending him.
“I like to make an entrance,” he smirked, strangling one of the enemies.
Kayla rushed to some of the men in black, blocking their kicks and punches and finally ending them with a few hand combat skills.
“Ari isn't here as expected, a cowardly human!” Kayla said, bringing out her star edged knife and throwing them at the enemy.
I pulled Amy by the hand and ran to the back.
“Let them deal with the men in front,” I said before she could complain.
Ari’s men surrounded us eager to beat us to death, but they were in for a surprise. I fisted one of them making them stumble backwards. Amy shot at one of the men's eyes and he screamed, firing blindly. We ducked as he killed some of his people.
I aimed at him, pulled the trigger and murdered him.
We were a great team, Amy and I. Fighting those men and killing them with their own weapons became easier.
Amu fought like a wild animal, devouring any threat that came her way and I backed her up trying to protect her — she was my woman after all.
We worked well like a war machine striking those men and giving them our all. Ari was a coward and so were her men.
The enemy kept increasing and we were out of manpower so I requested back up.
“Bring your men now!” I commanded and as I was about to cut off the line, the man said, “Ari Xavier is with us, she has us all surrounded…”
Beep.
We were doomed if we didn't retreat, then I informed Dylan about Ari knowing our plan and he called his men to fight while they retreated.
I noticed Amy was slowing down which meant she was getting tired by the second so I joined her in fighting.
“Let's leave, their men are too much!” I yelled over the pounding in my ears. The gunshots increased and from a distance I heard the sound of the police coming.
I snapped back to reality and immediately sighted someone aiming a gun at Amy.
“Fuck Amy!” I screamed, pushing her away and letting the bullet hit me.
Damn!
That bitch fired wrongly and hit my injury.
I fell to the ground and Amy shouted killing the guy.
I felt myself slipping into oblivion.
Fuck this.
AMELIA XAVIER
I watched Owen as his chest rose and fell in rhythm, the heart monitor beeping steadily.
We would've died if Kayla hadn't come to our rescue. Our men retreated, most of them injured by the fight and we were lucky to escape before the police came.
Just then, Owen opened his eyes curling his lips in disgust at the smell of the hospital. He still hadn't gotten used to the smell even after being a frequent patient.
“Oh shit, I'm in the hospital. Thank God,” he muttered trying to adjust his vision.
His eyes met mine and I wanted to kiss him and wail like a child, instead, I jabbed his shoulders and he winced.
“Why the fuck didn't you tell me your injury wasn't healed, you almost died!” I scolded, refraining from hitting him again.
Owen smiled wryly making failed attempts in sitting up. I helped him up and gave him some fruits to snack on.
“I didn't want you to worry so much for me, you wildling,” he teased, inching closer to me for a kiss.
I placed my finger on his temple and pushed him to the bed.
“You need to rest,” I muttered, his expression humouring me.
Owen grumbled munching on his apple. “At least we're safe for now. I got confused because Ari tricked us. We lost a lot of men and I blame myself.” The words slipped from his tongue unconsciously.
My face wrinkled into a frown, “It's not your fault, Ari is a… a fool and we're going to keep trying until we destroy every bit of her,” I said, calming him down.
He still looked disturbed so I made the first love and kissed him. He didn't hesitate, instead, he grabbed my waist, and let his tongue survey my mouth. I moaned softly at every touch I felt from him.
Even in distress this man knew his game and played it well.
Just then, the door opened and we separated but not in time for father to see us.
He didn't look surprised, but annoyed.
“You're on your deathbed, Mr Winters, at least ask God for forgiveness or something.” It sounded like a joke, or a sarcastic comment which to be honest surprised me.
Father promised to try and be nice to him, and he was doing a very good job.
“I'll take my leave,” I said, hugging my father before walking out of the room.
“Ari Xavier.”
That moron.
