Chapter 144 IS THIS....THE END?
Chapter 144 IS THIS....THE END?
MICAH'S POV
“Micah the way I want you is one of mind numbing passion, that it strips every ounce of my self control every second I fight myself back to not hold you in my arms.”
Calm yourself down, Dante.
“The way I want you is such a carnal emotion that I fear for my soul if something ever happens to you. I won't insult you by claiming my control issues didn’t influence our relationship, but I don't think I'm capable of changing so easily either. I watched you, arranged things in place for you, and removed threats even before they became threats for you. This is who I am, Micah.”
The raw manner he's talking to me, is going straight to my soul, making me shift in my stance.
So I laugh out without any humor in it instead of showing just how affected I was by that… confession? Threat?
“And somehow you thought I’d never find out about your interference.”
“I thought I could somehow protect you without you having to carry it in your conscience.” He calmly admits.
“That’s not protection! That’s deciding for me without even talking to me.” My chest hurts from the series of emotions I'm feeling from his whole confession.
“You took away my ability to choose, and even left me out like I did not matter to you. Like my opinions don't matter when you're involved in it! Like a naive fool, you let me believe I was standing strong and independent, especially after what's just happened to me, even as you knew it was fake. You treated me like a fool!”
I'm panting after my tirade, expecting him to say something, but Dante’s silence is enough for me.
I turn around sharply, and drag in a long breath, before taking time to say the next part as clearly as I can without breaking into tears.
“If we're going to keep living together in this suite– if I'm going to continue living here with you, then there are new rules to be put up. Non-negotiable rules.” I say coldly, but Dante doesn't even flick or blink.
“I do not care where else you've planted your cameras, but they all come down tonight. I'm not sure if you have, but I won't put it past you so if you've installed a tracker on me or on my phone, get rid of it.”
This gets a reaction out of him as he takes one look in my eyes before nodding calmly.
Ha! He actually did?!
But I sigh and continue speaking.
“From now on, no tracking me, no spying on me, or using anything to watch me. You cannot step in without my knowledge or consent, and “handle” anyone who so much as threatens me without telling me first.”
“But–”
“No buts!” I interrupt coldly. “You don't get to be the one to decide what I can or can't cope with, or who constitutes a violent threat against me. If someone comes at me, without my consent you cannot act.”
“What if it's–?”
“Dante!” I shut him up coldly. “This is not a democracy or up for votes. I'm informing you how things are going to work moving on, not asking for your opinions. If you're not happy, I can move out if that is what you would prefer?”
His eyes widen with betrayal, before he shakes his head several times, before asking, “And what about us?”
The question hangs right there in the air, as one of the things I've been avoiding since.
I have no current thoughts on what to say to him about it, so I just shake my head in response.
“For now, there is no us. I need space for myself that hasn't been carved out and planted by you. I need space right now.”
“I need to know who I am on the team, and in King's without your shadow or influence deciding things for me everywhere.”
His face falls so I quickly add.
“Maybe someday… someday in the future, we can both exist without the feeling and need for control. But not tonight. Not while I still feel unsafe and sick just looking at the walls around my room, wondering if I'm being watched or not.”
Dante's face doesn't change or do anything after that, but I see that his expression tightens up whilst his teeth are still tightly clenched.
“I understand.” He says simply with a single nod.
I hope he does, I don’t know if he does or if he is capable of respecting my wishes, but he knows what will happen if he doesn't.
I've now drawn the line I hope he doesn't cross.
So, I turn around and walk back to my room before shutting the door, and turning the lock on.
The small click of the lock feels so final and resolute in the final manner, like it's now the end of the both of us.
It's okay, we'll be okay. I'll be okay.
Pressing my head right on the door, I don't hear anything from the other side for a long time.
Then after a while, I hear the soft sound of him moving around the suite, he moving to open the kitchen drawers, moving a chair and the quiet work of him moving around in the suite.
I'm happy he is removing the rest of the cameras just like I wanted.
Finally, I sit just at the edge of my bed before clutching my head for the billionth time.
The full weight of today finally settles in as the sun settles in too.
The public violation, the honesty and the cold choice I just announced to him right now.
It's all okay though, it's all for my own good.
I don't know what the relationship between me and Dante is currently, but I know that they are all on my terms, and what happened to me previously will never happen again.
I will not be manipulated into trusting someone that can control and overturn my trust so easily, and manipulate me in any way he wants.
I'd rather end that relationship right away.
