Chapter 127 IT MUST COME TO AN END
Chapter 127 IT MUST COME TO AN END
DANTE'S POV
I don’t need to even knock.
The cabin door is unlocked, so I just push it open as hard as I can.
It bangs loudly against the wall, making Savannah jump up from the couch.
Micah swivels with alarm, in someone else's hoodie.
“Dante–” he starts with concern, the exact moment he sees me.
“Get your things.” My voice comes out low and flat as I interrupt him. “We’re leaving now.”
Savannah boldly steps between us. “He needed space, Dante. You can’t just–”
“Stay out of this!” I bark loudly, without even looking away from Micah.
Luckily, he has no scratches or any signs they actually spent the night together.
The photo of the both of them at Five Guys is still burnt in my eyelids every time I blink.
“Your phone isn't switched on, you leave the suit all night after what is currently happening, what the hell were you thinking?!”
Micah’s shoulders tense for a bit, but I can't ease up at all.
Does he not understand the gravity of what could've happened?
Any tabloid eager for money could've pinned and dragged his name in the mud.
If Savannah were any more opportunistic than she already is, she can accuse him of many crimes already!
Micah stands straighter, raising his eyes to mine in defiance.
“I was thinking about how I couldn't breathe on campus yesterday.”
He answers with a steeled determination.
“I was thinking to myself, how many people were staring at me like I'm some kind of circus show. I literally had a panic attack and was so close to fainting if Savannah didn't help me!”
What–?
How am I just finding out about it?!
“Still, you should've called me!” I step closer to him, greedily taking him in.
He appears okay so far, but I hope the attack won't come for him again.
I’d have to deal with Alison then.
“Micah, do you know what it looks like from my side? You tell me you need space because of Alison's threats and the rumors, but the next place you go to is her? Do you have any idea what this all looks like from here? What it feels like for me?”
I thought we were getting closer damnit!
Savannah pipes up once again. “He’s allowed to have friends–”
“I said shut it, Savannah!” The words crack out from my lips like a sharp whip.
Thankfully, her eyes widen with outrage, but she keeps quiet.
Micah looks outraged at my outburst, pressing his hands against the counter for balance.
“You're doing it all over again, Dante. You're deciding how I should feel, where and when I should feel just because you want to! I told you I had a panic attack, yet your first statement isn't to check on me, but to disparage my actions?!”
“No, Micah that's not–”
“I just needed one night Dante! One night away from all of this without anyone watching or deciding shit for me!”
He tells out, not even listening to my explanations.
Of course I'm worried about him! That's the only reason I'm here after all.
But it seems like my mind and mouth have different ideas of what I'd like to say.
“And you thought the solution to this was to just shut me out completely?”
My control is slipping, and I hate how it's obvious in my voice.
“You think I don't know what this is all about?! I've told you I'm not him! I won't betray or go behind your back like him, yet you still compare us in your mind! And you're not the only one here, but the second things get hard, you're already looking for an exit!”
Micah flinches from my mention of his past school.
Usually, I would've recognized just how low I'm going, and lashing out all in my jealousy of those photos.
Why is it fair that Micah can be in public with anyone, but not me?
“Don’t,” he manages with a strangled voice. “Don’t use that against me.”
“I’m not using it. I’m merely recognizing the pattern here.” I move closer until there’s barely a foot between us.
A part of me wants to draw him in with an apology.
The ugly part of e, wants to rip off every facade until he's laid bare to me.
Savannah is still frozen by the couch, looking between Micah and I with growing realization.
“You want to be careful with things, you want space, you want me to stop fixing things. There are a lot of You! You and you in this, but not me!”
I try around to exhale loudly, before turning back to him.
“Fine. But disappearing on me for a whole day with no contact, and just going off with her isn't me giving you space. It's you deciding on something without even saying it to my face.”
Micah yells at me with frustration in his voice.
“That's because every time I try to speak to you, you shut it down!”
“You said you'll handle Alison, you said you'll handle the rumors, you decide everything whether I like it or not! You just go off and do your own thing regardless of how I feel. Especially since you know how I react when things are moving at a pace I cannot understand or control!”
“I decide things, because I refuse to lose you due to your indecisiveness!”
The admission is supposed to sound romantic or lovely, but it comes out harsher and bitter than I'd like.
“Do you understand that, Micah? I will not stand by and watch people destroy what we have like the way they did to you before! And if that makes me controlled, then so be it.”
“You're still my listening–”
“But don’t you dare act like walking away is the safer option or something .” I cut in instantly.
“Admit it, Micah. That's just you taking the coward's exit”
Micah’s eyes are glassy now.
I can't seem to see him with how blurry things are in my vision.
I blink it away, turning to how shocked and aghast he's looking.
“You don’t get to decide that for me. You don't get to show up here and demand shit, Dante. Who the hell do you think you are?!”
“You are mine.” The words leave my mouth before I can truly stop them.
“And heavens know I'm not leaving here without you.”
“Yes, you are.” Micah’s voice is shaking, but he sounds so resolute.
“This– whatever this is, this situation we're in… it's over.”
Something inside of me instantly snaps as I reach out for his wrist instantly.
