Chapter 8
In the depths of the forest, I found myself face to face with two menacing vampires. Their eyes glowed with hunger as they lunged towards me, ready to strike. But before they could reach me, Alpha Henrick intervened with a swift and powerful grip on their necks. The fury in his eyes was unmistakable, a blazing fire that dared anyone to challenge him.
The vampires were rendered immobile, gasping for breath under his iron grip. It was a sight that sent shivers down my spine, witnessing the raw power of the Alpha. "No one can hurt my mate!" he declared, his voice dripping with anger.
With a sudden release, the two vampire women crumpled to the ground, clutching their throats and casting malevolent glares at Alpha Henrick. Their defiance only seemed to fuel his rage. "Why are you looking at me like that? Do you truly wish to witness your own demise at my hands?!" he seethed, his eyes ablaze with fury.
Amidst the chaos, a woman's voice pierced through the tension, desperately shouting accusations against me. In a swift motion, Alpha Henrick silenced her with a resounding slap. His gaze then shifted towards me, our eyes locking in an intense moment. Unbeknownst to me, my nerves betrayed me, causing a slight tremor that I quickly concealed. I had to tread carefully, for these vampires seemed to possess knowledge that I was yet to uncover. Why did that woman claim I was deceiving the Alpha? How did she know?
Seeking reassurance, I mustered a seductive tone as I questioned Alpha Henrick, "Do you believe what that woman is saying, Alpha?" His response was direct and unwavering, "No."
"Why should I believe her slander against you? Do you think I would trust an enemy, Clara?" he calmly replied, his grip tightening around my hand. Though I trembled internally, I fought to maintain composure, not wanting to reveal my vulnerability. There was something more to this situation, and I had to navigate it with caution.
The laughter of the woman echoed through the room, her finger pointing directly at Alpha Henrick. She always accused me of deceiving him, and I couldn't resist the urge to confront her, slapping her across the face.
Alpha Henrick was taken aback by my actions, but deep down, I knew he understood the source of my anger. He leaned in closer, his breath mingling with mine, as he whispered, "Do you want to take matters into your own hands?" In that moment, he handed me a sword.
"Use it, Clara," he said, his voice filled with conviction.
My entire body trembled with a mix of fear and determination. Memories of the murder he committed against my parents flooded my mind. I gripped the sword tightly, locking eyes with him. The burning intensity in his gaze only fueled my anger and hatred. In my eyes, he was nothing but a demon.
With the sword in my grasp, it felt as though I could end his life right then and there. My thoughts remained a mystery to him and everyone else. However, I couldn't bring myself to kill these two vampires without a fair fight, witnessed by the wolves.
"This isn't what I desire, Alpha," I spoke, my voice filled with resolve.
"What do you wish to happen,Clara?" he inquired.
"I want a fair fight," I responded, my tone serious, as I returned the sword to him.
"What do you mean?" he pressed further.
"Release them one by one, so I can face them on equal grounds, Alpha," I commanded.
The room fell into a stunned silence. The wolves surrounding us instinctively created space, giving us room to battle. Alpha Henrick hesitated, unsure if he should grant my request. But I persisted, eager to test my strength once again, to prove myself as one of them, as one of the powerful wolves.
"Are you certain about this, Clara? I don't want to see you harmed," he expressed his concern.
"Do you doubt my fighting abilities, Alpha?" I retorted sarcastically.
"I will not be defeated, Alpha. I refuse to be defeated!" I declared firmly.
He gasped in astonishment at my words, unable to resist my command. The space they allotted us was vast, giving us plenty of room to engage in our battle. As they released the vampire woman, a proud smile adorned her face as she locked eyes with me. Taking a deep breath, I braced myself for the impending attack.
Having won numerous boxing matches in the past, this was a new challenge for me. I couldn't rely solely on my fists this time. My opponent was no ordinary human, so I had to tap into my own supernatural abilities. I embraced my identity as a wolf, knowing that I had to think and fight like one.
She initiated the first assault, but I swiftly evaded her scratch. Seizing the opportunity, I swiftly retaliated, striking her in the side of the stomach and inflicting an injury. Writhing in pain, she became vulnerable, allowing me to launch a series of consecutive attacks.
With a sarcastic smile, I once again scratched her face, causing blood to trickle down. A forceful punch to her stomach followed, and I tightly gripped her neck, lifting her off the ground.
"All of you shall bear witness to the demise of this woman!" I declared, determined to end her life.
For the second time, I felt the surge of unfamiliar strength coursing through me. The wolves observed our battle, applauding in approval. Alpha Henrick rose from his seat, his expression a mix of concern and admiration. Raising both fists triumphantly, I claimed my victory. However, my fight was far from over.
They released a second vampire, who swiftly charged towards me. I was caught off guard as her scratch landed on my cheek, causing me to wince in pain. Glancing at Alpha Henrick, I could see a hint of worry etched on his face.
Undeterred, I charged back at her, fully confident in my abilities. She moved with incredible speed, effortlessly evading my attacks. The crowd fell silent, their attention solely focused on our intense confrontation.
I reminded myself that I couldn't be defeated. This woman had to pay for the harm she had inflicted upon me, in the eyes of the Alpha. Allowing her to continue her assault, I carefully studied her movements. Dodging her punches and scratches to the best of my ability, I patiently waited for the perfect opportunity. And when it presented itself, I sank my teeth into her exposed back. A scream escaped her lips as I bit down, asserting my dominance.
The force of my blow had split the other side of the wall, leaving the vampire woman bloodied and lifeless. The room fell into a stunned silence, everyone in awe of what I had just done.
After a few moments, the applause erupted, acknowledging my victory in the match. Alpha Henrick approached me, a smile on his face, to congratulate me.
"Absolutely incredible! I knew I made the right choice in selecting you as my mate," he exclaimed.
I couldn't help but respond, "I can protect myself, Alpha."
We exchanged smiles, and in that moment, I felt a softening of my emotions. His bright eyes seemed to forge a unique connection with mine.
But it was a feeling I shouldn't have allowed myself to experience. I realized that I needed to protect more than just myself; I needed to safeguard my own heart.
Swiftly, I averted his intense gaze, only to find Elijah looking at me intently. Unbeknownst to me, he had been observing me for quite some time. I returned his smile, but Alpha Henrick noticed the exchange between us, prompting me to quickly divert my attention.
Exhausted from the fight, I bid farewell to the others and expressed my need for rest. Alpha Henrick kindly offered to accompany me to my room, and I accepted his offer. Together, we walked down the corridor.
After a few minutes, we arrived at my room's entrance. As I prepared to say goodbye, I noticed a lingering look in his eyes, as if he had something to say. Curiosity got the better of me, and I couldn't help but inquire. His response made me burst into laughter.
