Episode 27
As Logan and I went for a walk and chatted, I brought up a topic. "You like her, don't you?" I asked, noticing the smile on his face.
"Absolutely, but it's not going to work out," he replied, causing me to pause in my tracks and him to stop as well.
"What do you mean?" I inquired, and he shrugged his shoulders before kicking a small stone out of his path and looking back up at me.
"I heard she was supposed to be mated with the most powerful Alpha," Logan responded, but I interrupted him right away.
"And...?" I asked, wanting to know why he was bringing this up.
"Why should I interfere with her destiny? Can we forget about that? I know where I belong," he said, taking a deep breath.
"I'm not on her level. I'm nobody, so it's a no-go area. I can't be with her, even though I'm craving it. But it's impossible, right?" Logan said, looking at me.
Silently, I began to take slow steps forward, and he joined me as we continued our walk. He was right, and I could see that he was a man of dignity. I could have encouraged him to stay away from her.
However, I had a mission at hand, and for it to succeed, Logan needed to fall in love with Lucia. So, I had to give him the wrong advice.
"Come on, don't be ashamed of who you are," I said, placing my hand on his shoulder.
"You should be more determined about your own destiny rather than your current circumstances," I added, tapping him on the chest.
"You're a great person, so you have to stand up for what's rightfully yours," I encouraged him.
"Lucia chose you, so you should be ready to fight for the love you have for her, no matter what it takes, okay?" I said, and he nodded.
"Okay... thank you so much for the advice. I really appreciate your effort," he said, gratitude written all over his face.
Little did he know that he was about to meet his doom.
"You're welcome. So, can I be your best friend?" I asked, extending my hand for a handshake.
He shook my hand, smiling. "Actually, she is my best friend," he said, referring to Lucia.
I didn't bother to ask who he meant, as I already knew he was talking about Lucia.
"So, what role do I play in your life?" I asked, a hint of amusement on my face. I was worried that he might reject my offer of friendship, perhaps because he only trusted Lucia.
"Well, actually, you're my best friend," he replied with a smile. "You saved my life, didn't you?" He added.
As I gazed at him, I realized that he must have confused me with Justin. However, I decided to keep up the pretense.
"Is everything okay?" he asked, noticing the expression on my face. He waited patiently for my response.
Upon hearing his question, I quickly composed myself and put on a cheerful demeanor. "Oh, yes! I'm fine, thank you. And, yes, I did save you," I replied, forcing a smile.
"Thank you so much for that. I owe you a lot, buddy," he said with gratitude, and I nodded in acknowledgment with a smile.
"You're absolutely right. You do owe me big time," I replied, and he kept nodding in agreement, unaware that I meant something entirely different.
"Shall we get straight to the reason why you brought me here?" Logan asked, and I nodded in response.
"Yes, of course," I said, taking a deep breath. We had already reached the end of a long path, so we stopped there. I placed my hands inside my pockets as we prepared to begin our discussion.
"I was hoping you could give me some more information about your experience with Rubin and his gang," I asked, and Logan exhaled heavily.
"I thought you already knew that I didn't want to talk about that," he replied, looking down at the ground. "That story is tied to the death of my family, and talking about it will only bring back painful memories."
"Perhaps you could give it one more try and speak up this time. I want to clarify that I didn't come here on my own accord, but rather by order of the Alpha," I responded.
"I recall Alpha Jesse inquiring about this matter previously, and I informed him of everything I knew, which you were present for as well," he replied as I nodded.
"That may be the case, but at the time of the previous conversation, you were injured and not in the best position to provide us with the precise information we needed."
"During that time, we didn't ask you any questions. You simply shared your experience with us. However, this time around, I will be the one asking the questions and you will need to provide the answers," I stated firmly, and he shrugged his shoulders and rubbed his eyes before agreeing.
"Alright, that's fine. You can ask your questions and I will do my best to answer them if I have any knowledge on the matter," he replied.
"Alright, let me begin by asking if you were with your family when they were kidnapped. In other words, were you present during the attack and if so, where did it take place?" I inquired.
"No, I was not with them during the incident. It actually occurred in my home," he responded.
"I was in the woods at the time, distracted by some kind of creature I couldn't identify. It was then that I heard my mother's scream," he explained, tears streaming down his face.
It was a truly heart-wrenching moment, and his emotional display made it clear just how devastating the experience had been for him.
"I immediately rushed home upon hearing her scream, but I was unable to reach the house as I was attacked and knocked down by one of the vampires," he continued, wiping away his tears.
"I eventually woke up inside their coven where Rubin proceeded to rape my sister to death right in front of me," he concluded, his eyes filled with pain.
"That is an incredibly tragic and horrifying experience, and I am deeply sorry for what you went through," I expressed sympathetically, as he blinked in response, still overcome with emotion.
"I understand, but please trust me when I say that I am determined to kill Rubin. I intend to rip out his heart and show it to him before he takes his last breath," Logan declared with a furious tone, and I could sense the intense waves of anger emanating from him.
Observing Logan, it was evident that he possessed the commanding presence of an Alpha male. However, I knew that I needed to set aside his dominance for the time being.
"This is precisely why you need to answer these questions. Rubin has caused immense harm to countless individuals, and we need to bring him to justice," I explained.
"I think it's best if you calm down and answer the rest of the questions. This will help us to start tracking him," I added, urging Logan to compose himself.
"Then let's proceed with more questions. I am ready to answer," Logan declared with determination.
"Very well then. Can you confirm if your family was the only one kidnapped by the coven?" I asked, trying to gather as much information as possible.
"Also, did you encounter any other individuals during your time with the coven?" I inquired, to which Logan paused for a moment before nodding his head.
"I think I may have met other people there, but upon reflection, I didn't actually meet anyone else. Please pardon my confusion," he responded, and I nodded in understanding.
"Are you absolutely certain? Please take a moment to think and recall your time with the coven," I probed, noticing Logan's persistent head shaking.
"No, there were no other individuals there. It was just me and my family," Logan confirmed, and I nodded in acknowledgement.
"Understood. So, just to clarify, you have no information about Rubin's current location?" I asked, seeking more details from Logan.
"I completely understand. As you mentioned earlier, you were beaten before you were taken to the coven, and then beaten again before you were released. So, it's understandable that you have no information about Rubin's current whereabouts," I explained.
Logan responded, "Exactly. How could I possibly know anything?"
Acknowledging his response, I licked my dry lips and placed a comforting hand on his shoulder. "Thank you for sharing all of this with us. I'm sorry for your loss. We'll do everything in our power to bring justice to your family," I said, offering him some comfort.
"Is that all you wanted to ask?" he inquired, shrugging his shoulder as I turned to leave.
"Yes, that's all for now. See you next time," I replied, already on my way out, when he interrupted me.
"Why didn't you inquire about other possible ways to track him down?" he asked, causing me to stop and turn back towards him.
"Do you have any ideas on how we can locate him?" I inquired, as he nodded in response.
"Absolutely," he responded.
"Then speak up," I urged him, but he shook his head.
"I think I would suggest seeing the Alpha myself," he said. I stared at him, wondering why he would request to see the Alpha.
He seemed to be getting too full of himself, and I knew I had to humble him painfully.
"Don't worry, I will get back to you," I said to him before turning away. I knew that I wouldn't even inform the Alpha that I had met with him because my plan to expel him and Lucia from the pack was almost ready to be executed.
