Chapter 233 You abandoned me

Chapter 233 You abandoned me
CHAPTER 233
You abandoned me.
ROMAN

The doctors and nurses leave us alone. Shit. I didn’t even let her in slowly. I just showed how much I have lost my sanity, and now she knows that I am nothing but a nutjob. Perfect.

“Do you need help, big boy?” She looks up at me, getting in my space.

I grunt and hold on to her hip, steadying myself. She helps me get in the shit, and I ignore the pain from the stab wound. All my pain dulls away because she is here. I am touching her. I can feel her heat and warmth. My head grows lighter, and I pull her closer to me.

She smiles, throws her arm around my shoulder and presses her chest against mine. My body reacts immediately. She runs her gaze over my face, and I wonder if she likes what she sees. She seems to.

“You’ve gotten so … big and ripped.” She clenches my bicep, and I smile ruefully.

“I am going to kiss you now, Scarlett,” I murmur, and she nods eagerly.

I bend my head, cup her cheeks and press my mouth against hers. The first taste of her is divine, and the next is addictive. I slip my tongue into her mouth, tasting her warmth. She holds me tighter, hungry and desperate. I push one hand through her dark hair and slide one hand between us. The moment I spread my palm over her swollen belly, she gasps against my mouth, pulling away.

Her cheeks are flushed, and her eyes are glistening.

I look at her belly and rub my thumb over it. Heat spreads through me, and not the good kind. I have missed almost the entire first trimester. I have been reading books, and I know I have missed a lot.

“Come on, let’s get a bite and take a walk.” She smiles, and I nod.

I keep my hand around her hip as I lead her out. I hesitate by the door, making sure we’re safe before allowing her to step out. Rightfully, there are guards by my door, headed by Vienna herself. She saw me spiral, and she knows what I am capable of. She nods at me as I lead Scarlett out. Immediately, I feel her start to follow at a distance, she and four others. Good. They know their job. I have half a mind to ask for a gun because I feel so naked without it, but I know how to turn anything into a weapon, so there is no need.

“What would you like to eat?” I ask her, running my thumb over her back.

“I’m not really hungry.” She shakes her head.

We step out into the open ground. This place cost me a pretty penny, but I am willing to spend more if it means she is safe.

“How is the nausea?” I look at her.

“Managable.” She lies, and my mouth twitches. “Yeah?”

She rolls her eyes at me, “I’m figuring it out. It’s annoying, but I’m sure it’ll be better now.”

I nod firmly, “It will be better now. You have nothing to worry about. You are safe.”

“Are we? Do I really have nothing to worry about, Roman? How have you been? What have you been up to? Wanna get me in the loop?” She asks, staring at me with worry in her pretty eyes.

I pull away from her, craving a cigarette, but that’s not happening. No one is ever smoking when she’s pregnant. The men know better than to fuck with me right now.

“Look at me, Romeo.” She begs, voice cracking. “I’m here now, so why don’t we figure everything out?”

“There’s nothing to figure out. You have nothing to worry about. I will burn Emiliano’s empire to the ground. This is the safest place you can be, so stay here. Tomorrow, Luca and I will return to Mexico, and we will make sure he is found. We’ll do everything –”

“You are not going anywhere.” She cuts me off.

I raise my brow, “What?”

“You are not haunting down that bastard, not like this, not when you are unstable and if you must go, we are going together.” She tells me firmly.

“Unstable,” I repeat the word dryly. “Is that what you see when you look at me? An unstable man?”

“I see my husband, who is so eager to leave my side when we’ve barely had an hour together. I see a man who refuses to look at me. Look at me, Roman. Talk to me. Do you want us walking around, having random conversations, or do you want us to talk about something real, about us? Why won’t you look at me?” She whispers, sounding broken.

I look at her and push past the knot in my throat.

“You left me.” I rasp, bleeding out my heartache.

“What?” She frowns, confused.

“You left me. It was our fucking wedding day, and you chose to leave me behind. You didn’t think about me, how I was supposed to deal with your departure, you didn’t, and you left.” I snap, heat consuming me.

“I had to. They had Eve.” She says.

“I do not give a single fuck, Scarlett. You are supreme in my life, and I wouldn’t have done what you did to me. We could have figured it out one way or the other. He wouldn’t have killed her because he wanted you. We could have handled it another way, but you just had to play hero, you just had to be a fucking martyr. You walked to your death. You left me behind, and now you wonder why I am unstable?” I clench my fist tight, trying not to yell.

“I loved you so much. I love you.” My eyes burn with tears of rage and frustration. “I wanted you here with me,  but you were gone. You abandoned me. You jumped back into your past. You became Rosaline so quickly, leaving me behind. You were reckless again, and I was left behind, holding on to my sanity. So, yeah, my love, let’s talk about that.”
