Chapter 19 The enemy is closer than you think
Miguel stood still for a few seconds. His heart beating like it was about to come out of his chest. He had taken up so much courage to finally tell her how he feels so he wasn't going to accept her rejection so easily.
Rushing after her, he held her hand and pulled her towards him.
“You should at least hear me out Hazel. You can't dismiss how I feel just because…”
He was still speaking when she pulled her hand away aggressively and punched him, causing him to fall outside. She dashed after him in the speed of light and with a firm grip held him by the neck.
Miguel didn't fight it, he just stayed still and let her do whatever she wanted.
“Let this be the last time you say such things to me Miguel. I won't be so nice again”.
She said and freed him before she turned around to leave but she suddenly paused as though she remembered something.
“Also…”
She said and turned back to him.
“I may not be in the right space with Kael right now, but you will never… come close”.
She said and walked away.
Miguel stood still for a long time, reliving her words over and over again.
He turned his gaze to the direction she left from, the moonlight catching the scar near his temple and raised his head to her window, only to see Dona looking down at him. He looked back at her for a few seconds before leaving.
The Next Morning, Dona stood beside Hazel, helping her fasten the zip at the back of her dress. Hazel’s hands were trembling, and Dona noticed.
“Hey, you’re shaking.”
Hazel forced a small smile.
“Guess I’m nervous”.
Dona nodded slowly.
“Hazel… I know this is sudden, but I want you to know that I'm right here, and I'll fight by your side no matter what comes”.
She said and Hazel looked at her from the mirror and smiled.
“I'm…”
She was about to speak when the door slammed open and Cathy walked in.
“How dare you”.
She said, causing both Hazel and Dona to turn to her.
“Your getting married and I'm only finding out on the d-day”!
She said a bit too loudly and Hazel laughed lightly as she moved away from Dona and walked closer to Cathy.
“Forgive me, it just happened, it wasn't really planned”.
She said and Cathy looked at her almost like she didn't believe before she suddenly spoke.
“Whatever, as long as I stay as your right hand maiden, I don't really care”.
She said and Hazel hesitated as she turned to Dona who was supposed to be the right hand maiden.
Dona smiled and nodded, showing that she was okay with it even though something in her was really beginning to dislike Cathy.
Hazel finally turned back to Cathy with a smile and nodded.
“Of course”.
Cathy smiled and locked her hand with Hazel's, dragging her out of the room.
“Good, let's get breakfast and run through the events of the day”.
She said as she closed the door, leaving Dona alone inside the room.
Dona squeezed her brows, feeling unsettled.
“Did she just… mock me with a smile”?
She said to herself as she was sure she saw Cathy give her a mocking smile before closing the door.
“Ugh! She's so annoying”.
She said as she sat back on the bed.
Very soon, it was evening and the moon was at its peak.
The hall had been decorated hastily but beautifully. White lilies, pale silk, and candles flickering faintly along the marble floor.
Kael stood at the front, his expression unreadable, while Miguel lingered in the shadows near one of the pillars, pretending not to look.
Hazel entered, escorted by Lucian, who smiled proudly despite not understanding what was truly happening.
Every step she took echoed through the hall, and her beautiful white gown swept the floor as she walked in smoke and flowers.
When she reached Kael, he smiled, gently taking her hands. His warmth calmed her, taking away a little bit of her nervousness.
The officiant, one of the elder seers, began the ancient words of the binding ritual.
“With these words, your souls entwine as one. Light and shadow, bound by choice, sealed by love to rule the pack with wisdom and stenght.
You shall give your blood for the pack and rule with strength and dicernment”.
As he spoke, faint threads of silver red light began to weave between Hazel and Kael’s joined hands.
Kael looked at Hazel and she looked back at him in shock. He hadn't marked her yet and their mate string had been broken years ago. It was surprising to everyone how the mate string suddenly appeared again binding them like they had never been broken.
Someone in the crown raised her lips in a smirk.
“You pulled a fast one on me Hazel”.
She said and her smirk was immediately replaced with a face that held way too many evil plans.
“Let's see if this will stop me”.
After the wedding, they had a little party but Hazel retired to her room early.
She felt uneasy. She had never felt it before but Rave's presence was very glaring today.
It was obvious she was at the wedding but no matter how hard she tried to find her, she couldn't picture where exactly she was.
She heard a knock on the door and soon, Kael walked in.
“You look very unpleased about this whole wedding”.
He said as he walked in but she shook her head.
“I'm not”.
She said and sat with him on the bed.
“Is something bothering you”?
He asked and she nodded as she looked at him seriously.
“I could feel her, she was present today”.
She said but he said nothing and just kept listening to her.
“It felt like she was so close, not even hiding. But no matter how hard I searched, I just couldn't find her”.
She said and Kael sighed.
“Do you think…”
She paused and looked at her.
“Think what”!
She asked
“Do you think she's probably hiding”?
He asked and Hazel looked at him confused.
“In your vision and in the garden, she looked exactly like you but her green eyes shows that she's using witchcraft.
Is it possible that she's hiding behind your face”?
He asked and she nodded.
“I thought about that too. If she truly looked like me, she wouldn't show herself so easily.
But…”
She looked at him curiously.
“Who is she”?
