Chapter 113 Trying to make amends
Chapter 113 Trying to make amends
Whoever was by the door didn't listen and opened the door instead of going away.
Kalia quickly wiped her eyes, hiding her tears before looking to see who it was.
She was surprised when she saw her mom with a tray of food.
The only time she had seen her mother like this was when she was then and she was really sick, she couldn't get out of bed.
Hazel dropped the tray on the side and stood and sat on the bed next to Kalia.
Kalia looked at her, confused as to what she was up to.
“What do you want? I came home before my curfew.”
Hazel smiled and Kalia moved back.
“Mom, what's wrong? You're scaring me.”
Hazel's smile vanished.
" What have I done? My daughter is so unfamiliar with my smile, he thinks it's frightening.'
She shook her head, trying to get the thoughts out.
“I have a gift for you.”
Kalia just kept looking at her.
Soon, she got up and went out the door before returning to Kalia shortly.
Kalia's eyes opened wide when she noticed what was in her mother's hand.
“Mom, where did you get that?”
She asked, referring to the bunny in the cage her mom had just brought in.
Hazel looked at it before looking at Kalia.
“This? It was in the garden.”
Kalia shook her head, surprising Hazel.
“No, you have to return her mom, she doesn't like being inside the house.”
“Relax,”
Hazel tried to calm her down before sitting back on the bed.
“I didn't trap her, I put the cage in the garden and she entered on her own.
I even walked towards ig slowly but she didn't come out and she didn't struggle when I brought her in.”
Kalia looked at her mom and back at the bunny and back at her mom again.
“Really?”
Hazel nodded, assuring her that it was fine.
“Would… you like to keep her?”
Kalia's eyes opened so wide.
Since she was a baby, she had never asked for or received anything special from her mother.
Whatever he had, she got it from her dad or Lucian.
“Can I really keep her?”
Hazel nodded again.
“Of course, but under one condition.”
Kalia's shoulders dropped as she felt her mom was about to ask for something she definitely would not be able to give.
“I was thinking…”
She tilted her head, trying to get Kalia's reaction.
“We can build her a little house inside your room. You know… mother-daughter project?”
Kalia's eyes were literally glowing.
“That… is your condition?”
Hazel nodded
“Can we do it together?”
Kalia nodded immediately, stretching out her hand to collect the bunny from her.
Hazel gave it to her without hesitation.
It was after Kalia had the bunny in her hand that she looked at Hazel, a bit more relaxed now.
“Why though?
Why are you suddenly giving me a gift and thinking of spending time with me?”
Hazel sighed,
“You were right.
You're not a terrible person, you're my daughter.
And you don't need to please everyone else, you just need to keep being you. As long as you don't get in trouble, I'm okay.”
A single tear fell from Kalia's eyes.
“I have been so focused on wanting you to be perfect, I didn't notice just how amazing you already are.
Forgive me Kalia, and let's start working on it little by little.”
The tears increased but as soon as they dropped, she used her hand to wipe them off immediately.
Hazel smiled and placed her hand on her free hand, tapping it gently.
“I want to be there for you, always.”
Hazel could tell she didn't know what to say so she looked at the food.
“Make sure you eat something, I'll make sure no one bothers you tonight.
And then, we can start planning our bunny house project tomorrow.”
After she left, Kalia looked at the bunny and kissed it on its head.
“I can't believe you're actually here with me.”
She moved away from the bunny and raised it so she could look at its face clearly.
“Do you really want to be in here?”
The bunny wiggles its tiny tail even more making her smile.
“I'm gonna take that as a yes.”
She hugged the bunny tightly and lay back down.
Soon, she fell asleep, feeling very happy about how the day went.
Hazel went downstairs, pacing back and forth, waiting for Lucian to come down.
And when he finally did, she began rushing towards him, only to see Ava behind him.
Seeing Ava, she paused in her tracks.
“Mom? Is everything okay?”
Hazel nodded. For some reason, she didn't want to talk to him when Ava was there.
“Have dinner and get some rest, we can talk later.”
Lucian moved closer to his mom, his face looked worried.
“Mom, are you okay?”
Hazel turned back to Ava before looking back at Lucian.
“I should go to bed. I have a bad headache.”
She tapped Lucian and pressed his shoulder discreetly before leaving for her room.
Lucian turned back to his mom as he watched her leave.
Ava moved close to him and placed her hand on his shoulder.
“Are you okay?”
Lucian turned to her and took her hand off his shoulder gently, kissing the back of her hand gently.
“Let me check on Mom, she didn't look too good.”
Ava smiled and nodded.
As soon as Lucian left, the smile on Ava's face died and she watched him leave.
Her head tilted to the side and her eyes grew a little darker than they looked when Lucian was with her.
“What could they possibly need to talk about?”
Lucian soon got to his mother's room and knocked but got no response.
He gently opened the door and saw his mom pacing again.
“Mom?”
She turned to him as soon as she heard his voice.
“Lucian, you're here, come come.”
Lucian walked in and Hazel went to lock the door.
She pulled his hand and took him to the bed.
“Mom, what's going on?”
Hazel pushed him to sit on the bed and sat next to him.
“Is Carina your fated mate?”
