Chapter 171 Car Accident

Chapter 172 Now Is Not the Time to Talk About This

Dashiell stood up and positioned himself between Keira and Mira.

"Mom, now's not the time for this. Let's wait until Aiden is out of danger. Keira's been traumatized, too. She needs rest."

"She needs rest? Aiden is still in there fighting for his life!"

Mira was shaking with rage.

But unable to get past Dashiell's blocking, she could only glare daggers at Keira.

She turned and began pacing anxiously, constantly glancing at the emergency room door.

The hallway fell back into oppressive silence.

The air was filled with the smell of disinfectant and an invisible tension.

Keira remained sitting there, clutching the thin blanket tightly.

As Mira's cursing faded, what echoed repeatedly in her mind was Aiden's final hoarse "Keira."

And the warm blood continuously flowing from his temple.

She closed her eyes, trying to push away these images, but they only became clearer and more vivid.

An unprecedented complex emotion surged in her heart.

Making it almost impossible to breathe.

Making her feel like she owed him.

Yes, owed.

No matter how much she hated him, feared him, wanted to escape from him.

But in that moment, in that life-or-death instant, he chose to trade his life for her safety.

She owed him a life.

What should she do? Keep hating him? But he was still lying in the emergency room, his fate uncertain, because he saved her.

Forgive him? How could those past hurts and humiliations be easily erased?

Contradictions and confusion tore at her heart.

She could only helplessly stare at that tightly closed door.

As if she could see through the heavy metal door to Aiden inside, fighting death.

If he really died.

No, he wouldn't. He couldn't die.

This thought emerged uncontrollably from the deepest part of Keira's heart, startling even herself.

She quickly looked away, not daring to think further.

Several hours passed.

Still no news came out.

After her initial rage and scolding, Mira had calmed down somewhat.

But seeing Keira stubbornly refusing to leave, her disgust only grew.

She walked forward, "What are you still sitting here for? Haven't you hurt Aiden enough?

Just seeing your face makes me angry! Get out! Get out of here right now! Don't dirty my sight!"

Keira seemed not to hear, remaining motionless.

"Mom," Dashiell spoke up again, gently pressing Mira's arm and leading her aside, saying in a low voice,

"Aiden's condition is unclear right now. Her staying here, maybe Aiden can sense it, and it might be a support for him."

Mira shook off Dashiell's hand forcefully. Suddenly, she seemed to think of something.

She looked Dashiell up and down, her eyes full of shock,

"Dashiell! You, you can't possibly have fallen for this bitch, too?

Aiden nearly died for her! And now you're speaking up for her, what are you trying to do?"

Aiden had already gone crazy for Keira.

Now even Dashiell, who had just woken up and was always gentle and sensible, seemed to be under her spell too!

This Keira absolutely couldn't stay. She was a disaster and had to be completely eliminated to prevent future trouble!

As soon as this thought arose, it grew wildly in Mira's heart.

But for now, she suppressed the urge to act immediately, only glaring at Keira and squeezing out a few words through gritted teeth,

"Fine, very well! All of you, bewitched by her. I'll see how long she can stay smug!"

With that, she stopped looking at Keira and turned to walk to the other side.

Dashiell wanted to explain, but only let out a soft sigh and walked to Keira's side,

"Keira, don't be afraid. I'm here, I won't let Mom do anything rash.

Don't blame yourself too much either. This isn't your fault."

Keira pressed her lips together, still saying nothing.

After what felt like an eternity, the emergency room door finally opened.

The lead surgeon walked out looking exhausted.

Everyone immediately gathered around.

"Doctor! How is Aiden?" Mira rushed over first, her voice trembling.

"Mr. Coleman's condition has stabilized for now." The doctor removed his mask, his tone serious,

"But he's not out of danger yet and needs close monitoring. As for when he'll wake up, that depends on Mr. Coleman's own recovery ability."

Hearing this, Mira's legs went weak, and she nearly collapsed, but Dashiell caught her in time.

Tears instantly welled up in her eyes. She held them back and asked in a trembling voice, "Will there be any aftereffects?"

"That depends on his subsequent recovery. It's hard to say right now, but we'll do our best." The doctor answered conservatively.

Soon, Aiden was wheeled out of the emergency room, his body full of tubes.

His eyes were tightly closed, his breathing weak, looking so fragile he might shatter at a touch.

Keira stood at the edge of the crowd, looking at that face that had once been cold and imposing but was now completely bloodless.

Her heart felt like it was being squeezed hard by an invisible hand.

He looked so unfamiliar, so fragile.

She just stood there quietly outside the window for a long time.

Her mind was in chaos, various emotions churning.

She didn't understand. Really didn't understand. Why did he do that?

In that life-or-death moment, he could have saved himself. Why did he risk everything to save her?

Why was he so insistent?

After all, she had hurt him plenty, too.

"Keira, go rest for a bit. You look terrible."

Dashiell appeared beside her at some point, consoling her softly,

"There are doctors and nurses here. Aiden will pull through."

Keira slowly turned her head to look at Dashiell.

His expression was still gentle, just like when they first met.

But at this moment, what floated up in Keira's mind were actually bits and pieces of her time with Aiden.

Aiden, this domineering man, though strong-willed, commanding, always acting superior, when he was good to her, he really held nothing back.

He took her back to Adrian's old house and even bought that villa.

He took her and Apollo out to play, always carefully looking after Apollo.

He took the initiative to learn cooking for her. At first, what he made wasn't good, but over time, his skills really improved.

He was perhaps truly trying to get closer to her.

But the two of them were already separated too far by hatred.

Keira smiled bitterly, glanced at Aiden in the room, "No matter what, I just hope he can wake up now, safe and sound."

Love or hate, in the face of life and death, it was all irrelevant.

Her voice was light and airy.

Yet it struck like a heavy hammer into Dashiell's heart.

He had thought she would feel relieved, after all, Aiden was half-dead.

Why?

An indescribable gloom crept into his heart.

Aiden had done so many things to hurt her; didn't she hate him?

Or was it that just because of one act of protection, her hatred for him was wiped clean?
