Chapter 163: Missing Her Too Much
Chapter 164 Aiden Chased After
In the air thick with the smell of medicine, Dashiell and Aiden faced each other in silence.
One tall and imposing, carrying the pressure of someone long accustomed to power.
The other weak and frail, yet his eyes held a calm that seemed to see through everything.
After a long while, Dashiell was the first to speak.
His voice was very soft, very slow. "Aiden, is Keira doing well?"
Aiden's spine suddenly stiffened.
His thin lips pressed tightly together. He didn't answer.
Dashiell pulled at his bloodless lips. "I seem to have had a very, very long dream.
In the dream, there was a girl who kept holding my hand, telling me not to sleep, telling me to wait for her. She said—"
He paused, as if gathering strength, or perhaps savoring that beautiful dream.
Then he raised his eyes to meet Aiden's. "She said when she grows up, she wants to marry me."
Aiden felt a thunderous roar in his head, his vision going dark.
All his pretense crumbled before that one sentence.
He leaned down, closing in on Dashiell's pale face.
"Her name is Keira! She's my wife now, and she has nothing to do with you!"
With that, he spun around and rushed out of the hospital room without looking back.
Late at night, the master bedroom of the estate was a complete mess.
Aiden stood before the huge floor-to-ceiling window, his gaze completely cold.
Several empty bottles lay scattered at his feet, the air thick with the strong smell of alcohol.
A vision seemed to appear before his eyes.
Keira stood right in front of him, looking at him with those determined eyes.
Her red lips parted slightly, each word echoing in his ears.
"Aiden, there's nothing between us that can be fixed, and no way to start over!"
No, that's not true.
He shook his head irritably, trying to drive away that annoying voice.
She left. She really left.
He let out a painful roar and hurled the glass in his hand hard against the wall.
A sharp crash, crystal shards flying everywhere.
Just then, the bedroom door was gently knocked, then pushed open.
Justin stood in the doorway, a flash of sympathy in his eyes.
"Mr. Coleman." Justin steeled himself and reported in a low voice,
"Our people reported that Jessica took that girl named Ella to the airport."
"The airport?" Aiden turned around, his face ashen. "Leave immediately, go to the airport!"
They were trying to run.
They must be going to meet up with Keira. He had to keep close tabs on them.
Or catch them and get some answers.
"Yes, Mr. Coleman!" Justin didn't dare delay and immediately turned to make arrangements.
Half an hour later.
Jessica held Ella's small hand as they walked with the crowd toward the check-in counter.
She kept looking down at the time and watching her surroundings, somewhat nervous.
Ella was quite excited, her big eyes curiously looking around.
She even pointed at the huge electronic screen and said, "Godmother, look, so many big planes!"
Jessica followed her pointing finger and happened to see a huge electronic advertising screen nearby playing entertainment news.
On the screen was a haggard, makeup-free photo of Zoey, next to a shocking red headline.
[Former Star's Image Collapses Overnight, Zoey Suspected of Multiple Scandals, May Face Complete Blacklisting!]
The news flashed by, replaced by the next flight information.
Jessica pursed her lips and muttered quietly,
"See, that's what happens to bad people. Do enough bad things and sooner or later there's payback. God won't let evil people get away with it!"
Ella nodded as if she understood,
"Zoey bullied Mommy; she deserves bad luck!"
Jessica patted her head, a trace of worry flashing in her eyes.
"But Zoey is Aiden's person after all. Even though she's lost face this time,
with the Coleman family's power, who knows, they might prop her back up someday."
She shook her head, stopped looking at the billboard, and gripped Ella's hand tighter as they headed toward the check-in counter.
Over the loudspeaker, the check-in announcement for their flight began.
Hope was just ahead. As long as they could board the plane smoothly and fly to Keira's side, everything would be fine.
Just then, the airport announcement suddenly came on.
"Attention passengers, we now have an urgent notice.
Terminal T2 needs to conduct a temporary security check. Please remain where you are and do not move around."
As soon as the announcement played, a commotion arose in the hall.
Jessica's heart jumped.
An ominous feeling instantly enveloped her.
She instinctively hugged Ella tight and looked around warily.
She saw that at each entrance and exit, many burly men in black suits had appeared at some point.
They blocked the passages and began checking passengers one by one.
It was Aiden. It had to be him. He found out and came after them!
Jessica's heart pounded wildly. She almost wanted to grab Ella and run immediately.
But she knew that in such a big airport, with Ella in tow, there was no way she could escape! It would only draw attention.
She forced herself to stay calm, tucked Ella behind her, kept her head down, and tried to be inconspicuous.
Just then, Ella suddenly tugged at her clothes and pointed toward a corner not far away with a "Restroom" sign hanging above it.
The bathroom! Jessica's eyes lit up.
Yes, the women's restroom!
There were lots of people inside, lots of stalls. Maybe they could hide out for a bit.
She scooped up Ella, kept her head down, crouched low, and rushed into the nearby women's restroom.
As soon as the door closed, the outside world was instantly shut out.
Inside, the light was dim, filled with the smell of disinfectant.
Jessica, holding Ella, slipped into the innermost stall and locked the door.
Time passed second by second, each second feeling like a century.
Outside, there seemed to be some commotion, as if someone was trying to force their way into the women's restroom but was stopped by management.
The sound of arguing could be faintly heard, then gradually subsided.
After a while, someone seemed to come in to use the restroom, but quickly left.
After who knows how long, the announcement came on again, declaring the "temporary security check" over.
Jessica's tense nerves relaxed slightly. She pressed against the door, carefully listening to the sounds outside. After confirming the voices had faded, she cautiously poked her head out.
The hall had returned to calm.
Jessica didn't dare delay. She immediately checked in for both of them and ran toward the boarding gate.
It wasn't until the plane door closed and the aircraft soared into the sky that Jessica collapsed into her seat, tightly holding Ella's hand beside her.
Finally, they were temporarily safe.
After nearly ten hours of flight, an exhausted Jessica and Ella finally landed at the unfamiliar Westerland airport.
Jessica pushed the luggage cart, holding Ella's hand as they walked out of the arrivals area. When she saw that quietly waiting figure in the distance,
the strength she'd been forcing herself to maintain instantly crumbled, tears breaking through.
"Keira." Jessica choked out the name, let go of the luggage cart, and rushed toward Keira.
Keira quickly stepped forward and caught her. "Jessica, welcome back."
"Mommy!" Ella also ran out from behind Jessica and dove into Keira's arms.
