Buried Truths
Buried Truths
POV: Damian
The door slammed shut behind me with brutal force, rattling the frame. My chest is rising and falling like I’d just run a marathon. But it wasn’t even Selene’s cheap tactics that angered me.
It was the look on Isla’s face when she spilled more than she ought to. The way she sat pinned at her dining chair when Selene let her father’s name out of her lips like a match over gasoline.
I saw the suspicion in Isla’s eyes, the way she was trying to put the pieces together already of something she was never meant to know.
“DAMN IT!!”
My fingers dug into my palms as if they could scrub away the memories. Five years ago, her father was staring up at me with blood on my hands as he took his last breath.
If she ever gets to find out…if Isla uncovers the truth—
No.
That can never happen.
A knock on the door drifted me off my thoughts instantly. The sound of her nails tapping against the wood.
Selene.
It had to be the fucking bitch.
“Come in,” I snapped, though I hated myself already for telling her to come see me in my room in the first place.
She stepped inside like she owned it, her heels clicking against the floor with a deliberate intent. I stood by the windows, hands still clutched tightly at my sides.
“You bark orders like a king,” she hissed, leaning against the door frame. “But to me….you’ll always be the man who chained me to a hotel bed and fucked me for three days straight.”
Her smile widened even more. “I can never forget that, Damian. My body still remembers it…..wants it.” Every word she spoke crept under my skin like poison.
She wanted a reaction from me. Always had. “That part of my life is dead, Selene.,” I said, turning my head just enough to meet her gaze. “Whatever you think we had…..it’s over. Buried.”
The smile on her face faded for a second, then curved sharply. “Buried?” She laughed softly, a sound that sent chills through my veins. “You can’t bury me. You never could, because unlike your pretty little fake wife. I know who you really are.”
I stayed silent, trying not to let the rage that was threatening to overtake me out. Selene leaned closer, the scent of her perfume filling the air. “You don’t feel anything for Isla. I see it in the way you look at her—anger, possession, maybe lust. But love?”
She let out a mockful scoff. “Don’t insult me. You know deep down that nothing’s stopping us from picking up where you left off. You want it as bad as I do, Damian.”
I turned to face her fully, my eyes pierced into hers like blades. “Not even in your fucking dreams, Selene. Don’t mistake my silence for desire……your sight alone disgusts me.”
I’m so damn sure the words landed like a slap to her. Because her cheeks flushed red instantly, anger spilling through the cracks of her polished mask. “You’ll regret saying that.”
“Try me.”
Her eyes gleamed with venom as she leaned in, closing every bit of distance between us.“I have the evidence, Damian. What happened five years ago…..every single last detail. If you think you can even try to refuse my offer….” She smiled cruelly,”…… I’ll destroy you.”
On the outside, I didn’t flinch or look afraid. My face stayed cold, forcing my voice to sound unbothered even though it wasn’t true. “Stop your empty threats, Selene. I’m sick and tired of it.”
But inside?
I was terrified of the thought of her revealing the truth about Isla’s father. I couldn’t let her use that night of his death like a chain around my throat.
And yet, while Selene poisoned the air with bee venom, Isla haunted my every thought. The way she sat beside me and claimed me to be hers in front of Selene, daring anyone to take her place.
God….
The taste of her lips on mine. Her loud moans came out shamelessly while I fucked the shit out of her. Isla was beginning to consume me more than Selene ever had. And I hated it.
Damian Cross would never stoop so low to let a woman consume him ever again.
“When she finds out what you did to her father….” Selene’s words caught through the room, drifting me off my thoughts instantly. “…do you think she’ll still moan your name the way she did last night?”
That was finally it. She had finally removed the last edge of control I was holding on to from snapping her neck in half. Before I even realized it, my hand shot out, gripping her throat violently.
I slammed her back against the wall, the impact sent a picture frame on the wall shattering on the floor. My body caged hers, nothing funny about the look in my eyes as I spoke.
“You think you hold power over me?” My voice was low, dangerous, vibrating from my chest. “You think you can threaten me with my past and I’ll let you live?”
Her nails dug into my wrist, begging to let go. But I didn’t loosen my grip. My vision was a mixture of rage and fear colliding until I didn’t know where one ended and the other started.
“Listen to me, Selene,” I hissed, pressing her harder into the wall. “Isla will never find out. Do you hear me? Because she belongs to me….. only me.”
Her eyes widened with fear as my face came inches from hers, every word dropping like a vow of blood. “And if you so much as whisper the truth to her, I will end you myself. Do not test me….”
“…..I’ll kill you before I let you spill the truth of five years ago to her.”
I wasn’t just warning Selene. I was making a promise to myself, something I hated so much to admit. No matter what it cost—
Or what I had to bury. Isla would never learn the truth.
And she would never escape me.
