The Perfect Wife’s Game

The Perfect Wife’s Game
POV: Isla

Selene’s cruel laughter caught through the room like poison, designed to pierce me in every way it hurt most. Damian sat at the head of the dining table, his cold and unreadable eyes fixed on Selene.

He didn’t tell her to leave, just sat there with rage in his eyes and enduring every bit of her annoying behavior. “Remember that trip to Paris?” Selene said sweetly.

“You kept me locked in that hotel room for three days,” she continued, her nails grazing his hand. “I couldn’t even stand afterward, remember? You wouldn’t let me rest…..you just kept making love to me, over and over…..until I begged you to stop.”

The smile on her lips curved into something darker. “You liked hearing me scream your name until I couldn’t breathe without thinking of you.”

She leaned closer, her lips brushing his ear slightly.  “You ruined me for any other man.”

Her eyes moved to me, mocking in every way. “Oh…..I’m sorry you had to hear all that, Isla. Perhaps it’s a conversation not to have at the dining table.”

My nails dug deep into my palms, anger coursing through my veins. She wanted me to react, to cry and run out humiliated like the night at the gala. But I’d learned something about fire—it only grows if you feed it.

I moved before my legs could stop me, pouring Damian his coffee, the steak rising between us like smoke. My hands rested on his as I stretched the cup toward him.

“It’s strong. Just the way you like it.” I said.

“Thanks,” Damian murmured, his voice unreadable with a silent approval of warning—something I couldn’t really tell.

Selene recovered, plastering on her smile. “How… charming,” Selene’s voice cut through, putting on that fake smile on her face. Who would’ve thought Damian Cross would settle for someone like you?”

I leaned forward, sitting beside Damian with a smile just on my face twice as fake as hers. “Oh, but he did. But not with you again though,” I tilted my head, letting my lips curve into a smile that wasn't kind.

“Last night was anything but fake. Our marriage might just be a contract….” I paused deliberately, lifting my cup and letting the silence sting her. “……but the way he touches me isn’t.”

“Especially when he had me screaming his name last night, I continued, setting the cup down between us. “He didn’t stop, not even I was shaking apart in his arms or begging him to.”

I leaned in closer, brushing Damian’s hand with mine, my tone now a whisper just loud enough to cause her more pain than she was in.“He didn’t just fuck me, Selene. He worshipped me. Devoured me. I can’t even walk properly this morning.”

The flicker of rage in her eyes now was music to my soul. Her silence stretched long after my words. Damian’s jaw tightened. His grip on the glass cup was so strong that I could see the veins in his hands now.

Selene’s face cracked for a second, rage overtaking her perfectly built mask before she covered it back with a laugh that obviously showed it.

“Well,” she said, “some things about Damian never change. He was always……like that in bed.” Her eyes locked onto mine. Neither of us blinked. She leaned back in her chair, swirling the cup of coffee in her hands.

“Do you remember, Damian,” she hissed, “that party five years ago? The private one in the Hamptons when you took me somewhere….special.The night we ran into….”

Her lips curved into a cruel smirk, “……Officer Gerald Mendez. Your father, Isla,”

My blood turned cold. Five years ago, the Hamptons. What was she trying to get at with all these? What the hell didn’t I know about the night at the Hamptons?

The room blurred around me, and for a moment I couldn’t breathe. Selene’s smile widened, her eyes flicking to me like a blade about to stab. “And then afterwards…..when Officer Mendez tried to…”

The scrape of Damian’s chair against the marble floor thundered through the room. He stood up, his body towering over both of us.

“Enough!!”

He barked. A sound that made Selene’s smirk fade without hesitation. His eyes cut to me, hard and merciless. “Get to college, Isla. Now!” The command leaves no room for any argument.

My lips parted to speak, a thousand words clawing their way up to say to him, but his stare pinned me in place. Why didn’t he want me to hear what Selene was about to say?

“What’s the matter, Damian?” Selene hissed, enjoying the flicker of confusion on my face. “Afraid your little wife will learn the truth?”

Damian snapped toward her. “I want to see you in my room. Now Selene.” His voice thundered like an order as he walked away from the dining room. She stood up slowly, smiling at me like a devil in human form.

Then following him afterward, the sound of the door as it shut behind me left nothing but a silence that swallowed me whole.

I sat there, my heart pounding so hard it hurt. The rage that clawed at me wasn’t just for Selene—it was for Damian. The way he let her taunt me with hints of truth I wasn’t meant to know.

Damian Cross had made a mistake in thinking that he was untouchable. But he didn’t know me at all. “I’ll play your game, Damian. And I will play it better than you ever could.”

I whispered to myself, pressing my palms flat against the table as though to anchor myself. My reflection stares back at me on the polished surface of the dining table.

Because the one thing Damian hadn’t calculated was me. And I would make him fall so hard for me while I slowly destroy everything he’s built.

And Selene? She’d learn that when it came to Damian Cross, I wasn’t the woman to underestimate.
