Chapter 47 CHAPTER 47

Chapter 47 CHAPTER 47
For the rest of the school day, my hands kept going to my lips, and then my chest where something heavy laid on it.

The entire week, I was on cloud nine.

When the shock subsided, I recall waking up every day feeling excited and carefree.

I didn't even feel hungry as I usually would.

I didn't feel the pressure to overdress or impress him, he always gave me compliments that went beyond the physical. Not like he didn't compliment me in that way, he always did.

But the ones that got to me were how he saw my mind and loved it.

It's something I miss about my father and it created a deep connection between us.

His questions about me were deep, he wanted to know my outlook on life and I was always looking forward to saying things I thought about that would make people look at me weirdly.

He didn't.

He indulged me instead and now, in one afternoon, my bubble was popped.

Gosh, I fear how the next week will be without him being here.

I found Naomi on my way out and I didn't care if Tori was splitting in two or not.

I went and hugged her.

"Don't be sad, he'll be back soon," she comforted me, patting my back.

"I don't know, I'm very unlucky in love. Something tells me he's gone forever. I don't even know much about him."

"Didn't you say you exchanged numbers?"

"Yes, but he hasn't said anything and I'm not texting him first. I've learned my lessons from the Kane situation."

"He's probably still on a plane. Stop being a crybaby and go. Your uncle is probably waiting outside for you now."

"Ugh, you're being the responsible adult. Go away."

She laughed before letting me go

"Let me know how it goes alright?"

I nodded and went to join my cousins who were waiting to escort me to the car.

That's how tight my security was.

"Where did you tell her you're going to?" Tori queried me as I joined them.

"To visit my mother's grave. Is there a problem?"

"Just be careful. You're not supposed to be having human friends anymore."

"I'm not going to change any more of my life than I already have. And unlike you, she truly likes me as a person and unlike everyone else in the Pack, there are no halfling or weakling comments thrown at me every evening. So I'm keeping her. For my sanity."

"I hate to say this but Tori is right," Edgar supported her while opening the glass entrance door for me. "Things are about to get really tricky and hard and you will find yourself unable to keep up with the friendship without revealing who you are. Just let her go now before it becomes too difficult."

"What exactly is the Council thing about and why's everyone acting all weird about it?"

"It's not our place to tell you, sorry."

I gave him a look before walking towards the big family car, a Cadillac.

"Good afternoon Uncle John," I greeted as I threw the bag in and climbed into the car.

"Hi, Sera. Are you ready?"

"I can't say, everyone is keeping me in suspense so I don't know if I should be excited or not."

"You should be. It's a rite of passage for half-bloods like you and it's usually a thing of joy to finally unlock your second half."

I nodded and tried to sleep off while he drove but my mind and heart just kept going back to Fabian.

To that mind-bending kiss and my intense fear of abandonment.

I looked at my phone and then calculated the distance between here and England before dropping it.

My chest did that heaviness thing again and I sighed.

"Are you scared?"Uncle John's voice brought me out of my saddened mind.

"I..."

"Don't worry, the Council won't hurt you. They just want the best for all of us."

I frowned, biting my lips in concern.

Since this whole fiasco, I've been hearing about them and not once did I feel any ounce of fear.

But now that he was trying to convince me of the opposite, it makes me wonder if there's something I should be worried about.

He's probably saying that because he saw my face and noticed how sad I looked.

But then I can't tell him it's because I'm missing my new teacher who kissed me stupid this morning and then disappeared afterwards to a whole other country.

"Do you know what they'll ask me to do?" I asked, hoping to get a clear picture.

"They'll tell you when we get there. Your Aunt loves you very much and won't let you get in harm's way."

Gosh, he's still trying to convince me.

"Okay, but what if I don't like what they want me to do?"

"What we're going for now is quite a necessity. Later on, they might ask more of you. If it's too untoward, I think you can negotiate for compensation. Just think about all the things you will want to buy, a new house for when you finish high school and maybe moving to a new Pack. I noticed you don't really like it here."

"No, they don't like me. I'm doing this whole thing because Edgar told me once I become full-blooded, people won't feel uneasy around me anymore. I want to stay around family and familiar faces, I'm tired of being alone."

"Then that's what we'll do. We're here."

I didn't even know we'd driven that far, the car is very comfortable.

I got down and stretched my legs before going to join him.

"Welcome to the Council building, Memphis."

I looked at the building and frowned. It looked like a 1980's business building with very little activity going on.

Maybe it's just me but with all the noise about them, I expected something... Bigger.

I followed Uncle John inside, and he spoke to the receptionist who gave him two black cards.

He handed me one.

"That's for the guards at the other end."

"The other end of where?" I asked, following him into the elevator.

He pressed a button and instead of going up, the elevator shook and headed down.

"Here," he said when it finally stopped and the doors opened.

My lips parted as an office that belonged in a futuristic fairytale graced my eyes.
