Chapter 30 CHAPTER 30
SERA'S POV
Sometimes I hate how weak my memory is but right now as I woke up from sleep, disoriented, I hated it so much more.
I felt like I'd been dropped off from the sky by a Greek god or something.
“That would be Selena. She's a goddess though. Really cool.”
Great. Now I'm going insane too.
“Oh no, he wiped out that memory too? Don't tell me we have to go through this again!”
I wonder if Aunt Kelly has medical insurance. My little savings won't be enough to get me drugs for schizophrenia.
“Come on! I'm literally here, you can see me!”
I went to the bathroom and splashed water on my face.
Nothing.
I was still in a fog and there was a frustrated wolf in my head.
Not an imagination thing, I always get lost in dreamland so I know what that looks like, besides I'm scared of fangs so I won't be imagining that on my own.
This was fully shown in my mental view, white, with a crescent moon coloured black on her forehead.
Oh God, now I'm believing this.
“Because I'm real! We've been through this already! Our mate wiped our memories but he did a messy job at it and you remember some things, and I remember some others. If you stop being doubtful, we can merge our minds and remember everything properly.”
I stop, trickles of memories slipping past the fog.
Mr Valkori rescuing me.
Again.
I was in his room.
Then on his bed.
And his car, with someone else driving.
Where were we going?
“We won't know except you accept me and shift.”
“Okay, this is getting weirder,” I mutter as more memories flow in.
We were running.
But that's where it cuts off.
Only the nightmares remain.
I shook my head and took a quick shower and dressed up.
I don't even know what day of the week it is but I do know I can't go to school today.
Not with my ears hearing ants walk in my bathroom window.
My hand was on the door handle when the voice came again from the wolf.
“Please Sera, just listen to me, I'm your wolf. My name is Sabrina and you're a werewolf. You're not going crazy I promise.”
I pulled my hands back and decided to try to hear her out. At least so I can know what to tell Aunt Kelly.
Otherwise, I might be admitted and caged up in some mental institute forever.
“A werewolf? What is that?”
“We're the goddess, Selena’s creation. You are human but you have a physical manifestation of your animalistic parts. We share a soul and have a soulmate because of that… um what else… You get extra powers like the heightened hearing, sense of smell, night vision, extra human strength and did I mention a mate?”
“More than once.”
“That's because it's important. Also weird that we have a vampire as one. We're supposed to be enemies.”
Great. Even in hallucinations, my life is still complicated.
“I'm not a hallucination and no, it's not a complication. The elders will understand. I've been a part of you for so long wishing I could come out and talk to you but our father needed to keep me a secret.”
“You're saying daddy knew about this world?”
“He was the Beta of Nashville Pack before he met our mother and had to pass on the role to Aunt Kelly.”
Okay, that's enough. Now she's saying my father was sick too and Aunt Kelly.
Who else? Everyone in Nashville?
“Not everyone but more than half of it. We mix with humans and lay low because they keep burning the forests we used to live in. They can't handle beings more powerful than them individually thriving.”
I was done listening, I opened the door and rushed down the stairs, my heart beating faster. I hated being an inconvenience and this is what I was doing.
Whatever had happened with Kane wouldn't have happened if I'd listened to Edgar and stayed away from him.
The second my feet hit the last step, I paused.
Everyone was sitting in the living room.
And strangers too.
Edgar had to stand because there was no seat for him.
I turned around immediately.
“Sera dear?”
“Yes, Aunt Kelly?” I turned back around.
“Everyone in there is a werewolf.”
Oh my goodness I'm about to disgrace this woman in her home that she graciously allowed me to stay in.
“You need to get off this crazy talk, I'm real!”
I winced and swallowed but kept moving in a straight line, as though I might explode into a fit.
It felt like it as well.
“Give her your seat Tori.”
“Oh no, I'm good. I was about to go back up anyway.”
“No girl, you'll definitely need a chair for this based on that terrified look in your eyes,” Tori said as she got up from the sofa and went to stand with Edgar.
Oh dear, what is happening?
“They're about to tell you what I've been telling you since you woke up.”
I pinched myself and sat down, swallowing.
“What is the problem?” I asked, my voice strange and strained to my ears.
“How do I begin?” Aunt Kelly sighed, looking around the room.
“I don't know, just tell Ryan to shift.”
“And shock the girl to death Edgar?”
“Her wolf has been speaking to her, I'm sure so I don't know what all the tension is for. It's killing me by the way.”
“My wolf?” My mouth refused to close
“Told you!”
“Yes, Sera. I'm not sure what she has told you already but you're a werewolf like the rest of us and we need to get that part over and done with because there's a bigger issue at hand.”
Something bigger than my entire family is going crazy with me?
"Mom, is she supposed to be shifting already?” I turned to see Tori looking at me weirdly.
“No, the signal came on today. She still has… oh.”
“What? What is it?” I squealed, hands going to my hair.
And that's when I saw my hands.
White… fur.
And then a scream erupted out of me.
“Sorry, I couldn't hold on any longer.”
