Chapter 39 Funeral Employee
BIG KAI
Imani's voice made her flinch, breaking her pleasant worried gaze from me as she looked in Imani's direction.
If I weren't badly injured, I would have rolled my eyes at Imani's annoying perfect timing.
Quick steps descended the stairs, making my shawty move away and Imani came into view.
Bitch.....
"Kai, what happened?" Imani asked worriedly.
Pain returned, making her groan as she held my arm.
I didn't feel pain during those seconds my shawty was staring at me with the type of worry I never thought I would see on her face.
Imani panicked as I tried to look at my new obsession behind her.
It is difficult thanks to the fucking pain.
"Caleb! Tyrell!" Imani yelled, adding to my pain. She took out her phone and dialed a number.
Not long later....
"Boss," I heard Tyrell's and Caleb's voices as they approached me.
Imani got out of the freakin' way and I was able to see HER, still staring at me with worry but for a tiny little while cause them boys blocked me.
Motherfuckers.......
They both helped me up, forcing a groan out of me.
Slowly and steadily, I was taken up stairs.
I was slowly losing consciousness as my legs struggled to keep their balance.
After a while, my weak body fell on the bed.
Tyrell and Caleb stared at me as they thought of what to do next.
"The fuck should we do, Caleb?" I heard Tyrell ask.
"Imani said the doctor is not picking up his calls," Caleb answered, making me let out a chuckle as I held my belly.
Fucking pain.
Fuck.
They both looked at me.
"Doctor my ass."
"Boss, you need..... "
"I don't need no fucking doctor, Ty. Caleb, "
"Yes, sir. "
"Go check on the nanny and my kid. "
He shared a look with Tyrell.
"You fuckin' deaf, boy?"
"No, sir."
"Go now."
He nodded, walking out the door.
I moved my eyes to Tyrell.
He is staring at me.
"What do you need me to do, boss?" Tyrell asked.
Nigga is ever bold and ready for shit.
More reason he is my favorite cousin.
"I got three fucking bullets in my motherfucking body. You gotta take them out."
He nodded.
"Get the screwdriver in the drawer, "
He obeyed, walking back to me with the screwdriver.
"I already used alcohol to stop the bleeding," I said, recalling HER brown eyes on mine while bath with the damn whiskey back in the fucking kitchen.
He nodded.
"Wash off with the bottle over there." I gestured at the whiskey on my desk.
He walked towards it, washed off his hands, and the screwdriver.
He walked towards me.
"Let's get on with it," I said.
He tore my shirt and stared at my bloody body.
"Are you ready, boss?"
I raised my brows. "You're right. Not yet. Get my cigar in the same fucking drawer."
He obeyed.
He handed me my cigar and I put it in my mouth.
He moved the lighter under my cigar and lit it up.
I took a drag and puffed out smoke, feeling good in the fucking bowl of pain.
I took another drag and puffed out smoke, hissing at the pain but felt the delight from my cigar.
I nodded at Tyrell.
"Let's go."
A DAY LATER........
I opened my eyes to the rays of the sun hitting my face. I turned my face to the other side, taking in my large portrait on the wall.
It is a picture I took in the hood, dressed in just my baggy jeans, a variety of diamond chains, and a silver durag wrapped on my head.
I was smiling with my diamond braces back then.
I need to retake the picture.
It is dope.
Speaking of the hood, I had a good time having my revenge on them white folks who decided to place explosives on my car and kill one of my finest drivers in the process.
They are lucky my son and his nanny are not involved.
Hell, I thought they were.
I almost burned down the entire city the minute I saw my car on fire.
My fucking Maserati y'all.
My fucking driver is in it as well.
I saw red that fucking moment.
I thought my son and his nanny were gone for good.
I have never felt so relieved the way I was when Rowland called after me and locked eyes with HER.
I was beyond relieved to see her with my kid safe.
But I wonder how they were out and my fucking driver was still in the car.
That's a fucking miracle I planned to give thanks in the house of God.
Shit, I'd better send the man of God a check for this miracle.
I don't deserve.
A dinner like me? Fuck that.
But the miracle was still given to me.
I moved, staring at my bandaged body as I managed to sit up, responding to the pain as I rested my back on the headboard.
A knock came on my door.
It opened before I could even speak and that's familiar.
Imani.
"Oh, you are awake. Finally," she said, her heels clicking as she walked towards me with a maid following her behind holding a tray in her hand.
"How are you feeling?" Imani asked as she stood next to me.
"Fulfilled," I said.
"Mm hmm." She took the tray from the maid and placed it on my leg as the maid walked out of my room.
I got a variety of meals in front of me: toasts, eggs, orange juice, grapes, and berries.
"Bon appétit," Imani said, making me look at her.
"I gotta do my morning hygiene first."
"Yeah, sure. You haven't bath in the last twenty-four hours,"
I furrowed my brows. "What?"
"It's been twenty-four hours since Tyrell did whatever he did to you." She said.
The fuck?
"Besides, why did you let him do that to you anyway when we have a fuckin' doctor?"
"Pass me my laptop," I ordered, ignoring her question.
"Aren't you going to eat breakfast first?"
"Would you pass it to me first?"
She heaved a sigh, walking towards my desk and picking up my laptop.
She walked towards me and handed it over to me.
"Take off the tray."
"What the...."
"Take off the damn tray, Imani. The fuck is wrong with your hearing aids?"
She took off the tray and placed the laptop on my lap. I opened it and turned it on.
"What's so important about your laptop anyway? It's not like you track your legal business on it. More like the illegal ones."
I didn't respond but moved my fingers on my keyboard.
I checked all my business transactions, trying to know if I missed a thing or two.
"Well, just so you know, after Tyrell did whatever he did, I made sure the doctor got here and fixed you properly.
"Tyrell did a good job," I said without looking away from my laptop screen.
She scoffed. "Yeah right. You mean cutting you open?"
"Legal workers like you have no idea how things work," I said, still going through my businesses.
She scoffed again. "Don't make me laugh, Kai. I might be doing some legal shit but I am more of a gangster like you are."
I looked at her.
She placed her hand on her hip, giving me a confident look.
I returned my gaze to my screen.
"By the way, it is a good thing you are awake. Max's family is having his funeral today. I figured you would like to go."
I gritted my teeth as I thought of Max.
Even though I was relieved about my son and his nanny, Max's death struck a fuckin' pain in my heart.
It's one of the reasons I had my revenge.
"Why did they place a bomb on your car, though?" She asked.
"The white folks who wanted to traffic female triplets. They wanted to get even. I gave them more than that last night." I said without looking away from my laptop as I moved to the CCTV camera of my son's nanny's room.
"You mean two nights ago? And the more reason you came back injured" Imani asked.
"What's a gangster without them bullet scars?" I asked without looking at her as my shorty's room appeared on my screen.
She and Lil Kai are on the floor, playing with his toy.
"Well, if you want to go to the funeral, it starts in a few minutes. So get ready." Imani said.
More like ordered.
I zoomed in my Shorty's face, taking in her beautiful smile.
It reminds me of the worried look on her face when she was staring me at the stairs.
It was sooting.
I fucking forgot about pain that very moment.
Until my annoying sister interrupted.
Just like she is.....
"Kai,"
I kissed my teeth.
"The fuck is your problem?"
"Get ready. It's your driver's funeral. You avenged his death. Time to pay him his last fucking respect." She said, walking away.
I returned my gaze to the screen.
My kid is crawling and she is doing the same, chasing after him.
I increased the volume.
"I'm gonna catch you, buddy. Run faster." She sang as they crawled.
I relaxed, staring at them.
Lil Kai sat down and she moved her head to his belly, shaking her hand and making him laugh more.
I let out a scoff, enjoying every bit of their moment.
How interesting.
AN HOUR LATER......
AT THE CEMETERY.....
Rowland opened the door for me and got out of the car dressed in all black attire.
My suit jacket hanging on my shoulders and my dark glasses on, I stared at the all black gathering a bit far from where I stood.
Caleb took my attention as he handed me the bouquet.
I took it from him as I took steps towards the gathering.
I got closer and everyone is placing their flowers on his white coffin and walking away.
I walked towards the coffin.
