Chapter 38 Injured Danger
MIA
"We need to hurry, Ms," The guard took my attention as we headed towards the back of the building. A red truck came into view and the guard led me towards it.
He opened the backseat for me and got into it reluctantly.
He closed the door and I held Jay Jay closer.
The guard got into the car and drove us out.
I saw the boss getting into another truck with the big gun and the tall man joined him in the driver's seat. We drove towards the right side and I couldn't help but look back.
A lot of men got on their various bikes and the truck that the boss was in drove towards the left and all the bikes followed them behind, shooting the sky as they rode.
I ducked as the sound boomed through the entire place even as we drove.
God, the boss looks more dangerous than I thought with all those squads following him.
How am I supposed to escape such a person?
Even if I didn't give up my freedom a few minutes ago, he will definitely find me.
What was I even thinking taking Jay Jay with me?
That will be the worst.
I sighed, recalling the poor driver.
Jay Jay and I just escaped death.
I can't believe it.
We were so close to getting exploded.
How are we so lucky?
Jay and I would have been dead by now.
Geez.
HOURS LATER...
KINCAID MANSION
"Jay Jay no," I said, taking my hair from his mouth as I walked along the hallway with Rowland following me behind.
I wonder if he has been standing at my door since we went back.
It has been hours since we got back from that place and it is already time for dinner. Jay Jay and I are heading to the table to join the others.
I haven't seen the boss since we got back.
Actually, I have been in my room ever since so I can't tell if he is back or not.
The surprising thing is, I couldn't stop thinking about his whereabouts.
Hell, I couldn't stop thinking about a lot of things since we got back.
My freedom which I gave up the second time.
He and his gang are heading to God knows where.
And then the dead driver. Especially the dead driver.
I can't help but think about his family and how they would feel once they hear the news.
They will be very heartbroken.
I would be. I am right now even though I wasn't related to him.
He wanted us to stay back and wait for the ice-cream salesman to come over.
But my excitement and impatience when it comes to ice cream didn't let me.
It actually saved me.
I wish he followed us. Then the car will explode without him.
I still don't understand what causes the car to explode.
It is not like we were driving or something.
Or did he touch something without knowing?
I can't tell. I know nothing about cars.
Sighing, I descended the stairs as Jay Jay went on with his talks.
I believe that very soon, I will begin to understand what he is saying.
He loves talking.
I looked ahead as I descended the stairs.
Jay Jay's aunt, Imani, and Caleb are the only ones seated and eating their meal with the maid, Naomi, currently filling up Imani's drink.
The boss is not back yet.
I looked towards one of the huge windows.
It is getting dark.
I gulped as I thought of the idea of being in this house with Imani when the boss is not here.
It gives me greater creeps than the boss.
I feel like I can endure the boss but I can't with her.
She scares me so much.
I took nervous steps towards the table.
Naomi walked towards me instantly and took out a seat for me.
That's odd.
"Thank you," I almost whispered. I reached to place Jay Jay in his seat but.....
"What are you doing here?" Imani asked, making my heart drop.
I looked at her as I held Jay Jay back.
She is staring at me blankly.
I looked at Caleb momentarily.
He is looking at Imani as he chewed his meal.
"I...I came to...."
"Take him to the kitchen." She retorted, facing her food.
I looked at Caleb.
"The kitchen?" He asked Imani.
"Are you deaf, bitch?!" Imani snapped at me, ignoring Caleb.
I held Jay Jay tighter as I walked out of the chair.
"Naomi, please attend to them in the kitchen," Caleb said.
"Yes, sir," Naomi said, gesturing at me to come with her.
I followed her.
"Rowland," I heard Imani call.
"Yes, ma'am?" Rowland answered.
I let out a sigh as I followed Naomi. Rowland wasn't following me this time.
Perhaps Imani has an errand for him.
We got to the kitchen and I walked towards one of the barstools close to the island.
I placed Jay Jay on the island before sitting on the barstool.
Jay Jay reached for the banana in the bowl of fruit.
I took it from him and peeled the back for him.
I cut a tiny piece and placed it in his hand. He moved it to his mouth, making me smile.
"I apologize for the boss's tone," Naomi said, taking my attention as she walked towards me with my meal and Jay Jay's.
She placed them in front of me.
"Thank you," I said, picking up my fork and taking in a portion. I placed another piece of banana in Jay Jay's hand.
He moved them to his mouth.
"You are so good with kids, aren't you?" Naomi said.
I looked at her. I realized she is seated on the barstool opposite me, staring at me with a smile I find uncomfortable.
"I uh....I took care of my little sister after she was born."
"Oh,"
"That's how I learned how to care for babies."
She nodded. "That's sweet."
I returned my gaze to Jay Jay, feeding him more bananas.
"You are so comfortable with Lil Kai. It is almost like you like it here."
I froze.
"Don't you want to leave this place?"
I looked at her.
She raised her brows.
I do.
Very much.
But I fear I can't.
I misused my opportunities.
She leaned closer. "You see, I can help.... "
"Naomi, Imani needs your assistance right now." Caleb chipped in, claiming our attention.
He is standing at the kitchen entrance door, unpleasantly staring at Naomi.
Naomi withdrew from leaning on the island, staring at Caleb in a saucy way.
"You sure she wants me now?" She asked.
"Now, Naomi,"
Naomi scoffed.
"Okay," she sang, returning her eyes to me.
"Happy dinner," she said with a smile that got replaced instantly with a frown the minute she turned to Caleb. She got on her feet and walked out of the kitchen.
Caleb walked closer to the island.
"You and Lil Kai have to eat in your room for now. It's for your safety."
I nodded.
"Let's go, please." He said.
I got on my feet.
HOURS LATER.....
IN THE KITCHEN......
I turned off the gas cooker the minute the kettle whistled.
I picked up the kettle and moved towards the flask. I yawned as I continued pouring water into it.
It is really late. Almost midnight and here I am, helping myself with things Jay Jay needs for the night.
After eating dinner, we fell asleep. I didn't get to ask Coco to help me with Jay Jay's needs.
I woke up a few minutes ago and here I am, helping myself by myself. I have to get everything ready before my little friend wakes up and cries the life out of me.
I put down the kettle after filling up the flask. I picked up the cover and covered the flakes.
I rubbed my eyes lazily, still feeling sleepy.
I yawned, craving my bed.
I am almost done.
His cereal is in my room so......I just need his utensils.
I picked up the baby's bottle and then his bowl and tiny spoon and moved towards the sink.
I washed and rinsed before putting them away.
I was about to wash my hands when.....
A thud from the kitchen entrance made me jump.
I froze the minute I looked in that direction.
The boss is leaning on the door frame in his blood-stained shirt, panting and staring at me as blood flowed down the corner of his eyebrows and sweat ran down his face and neck.
I gulped as I stared at him. Terrified to the core.
God, what happened to him?
He kept staring at me.
My eyes roamed his body.
He looks horrible.
Next, he began walking towards me.
My heart skipped as I took a step back.
He increased his steps, making me take terrified steps back till my waist hit the counter.
Terror washed over me as I looked behind me and then at him.
He towered over me.
My heart pounded as I placed my two hands on the counter to hold my balance while I stared at him.
The blood.
The sweat.
His breathing.
His massive height.
I could pass out anytime soon.
But he looks awful.
His icy blue eyes confirmed he was just coming from a blood bath.
A blood bath I believe strongly he caused.
And I think......I think he got injured or shot in the process.
With his bloody hand, he reached for my face, making me look away as I shut my eyes tightly, expecting his usual grip.
But no.
I sensed him grabbing something behind me instead, making me open my eyes.
I saw a bottle of drink in his hand. He opened it effortlessly and began to gulp.
I watched as his sweat-filled Adam's apple moved up and down as he gulped.
It is not my first time seeing such.
But why......
Why do I feel different about it right now?
He continued gulping, making me furrow my brows.
Why is he drinking that much?
He put down the bottle, panting as he wiped his lips with the back of his hand slowly and steadily.
I got a familiar feeling between my legs.
Did I just.....did I just find that hot?
His eyes rested on me, making me swallow.
He maintained eye contact as he moved the bottle to his shirt.
He poured the drink on his body, making me shift my legs as the drink dripped down.
He groaned in pain, still maintaining eye contact.
He continued pouring the drink on his blood-filled shirt and groaning in pain.
Wha.....what is he doing?
I stared at his body. It tensed up as the drink flowed down while he groaned.
I returned my eyes to him as he emptied the bottle on his body, while staring at me.
He placed the bottle on the island, still staring at me.
God, what is this scary man?
He averted his eyes from me, turning away as he walked sluggishly towards the entrance door.
I let out a breath as I stared at him. He sluggishly walked out the door.
I looked at the empty bottle lying on the nightstand.
I looked at the entrance door.
I took curious steps towards the entrance door, moved to the side as I peeped.
I saw him heading towards the stairs.
I think he needs a doctor.
He really looks awful.
I kept staring at him as he approached the stairs.
He was about to reach for the railing designs but tripped and fell on three stairs, earning a thud that made me flinch.
He groaned.
"Fuck..." he cursed, turning and lying on his back as he held his belly.
He really needs help.
There is no one here but me.
I withdrew myself from looking and rested my back on the wall close to the door, letting out a breath as I thought about this.
I closed my eyes and opened them.
Helping is not a bad thing.
Be it who you render it to.
With that thought, I hurried out of the kitchen and towards him.
I got closer and leaned close to him, taking in his dull eyes. I reached for him with my confused hands, stopping halfway on where to touch.
"You....you need help," I stuttered.
His dull eyes rested on mine.
"What should I do?"
No that's not the question to ask, Mia.
I looked around.
Everywhere is quiet and slightly dark if not for the lights.
I don't even have an of idea of which room is which.
I don't know who to call.
Should I shout for help?
But it is late.
I looked at him.
His eyes are closing.
God, is he dying?
Next, his hand began reaching for my face again.
Why does he...
A loud gasp from up the stairs made me flinch.
"Oh my God, Kai!"
