Chapter 27 Loser Boyfriend
MIA
She stood up straight, staring at me before walking away.
I let out a breath and rested my head on Jay Jay's lap, calming my nerves.
God, she gives me more creeps than the boss.
I felt Jay Jay's hand in my hair, making me raise my head and look at him.
He is smiling at me.
My heart melted as always.
"Your family is creepy, Jay Jay. But you aren't. Don't grow up to be like them, okay?"
He reached out his hands to me.
I chuckled, recalling what his aunt just said to me.
I have no idea what she meant.
Sighing, I caressed Jay Jay's hair.
As long as I have him in my care, I am safe.
I still need to leave this place.
I don't know how long I will be safe.
Oh God.
HOURS LATER.....
MIA'S ROOM....
"Not responding. Call back later."
I let out a sigh, feeling worked up.
Mom and Axel are not picking up my calls.
Mom is not picking and Axel's line is not reachable.
What is going on?
I didn't even find any missed calls from either of them.
My phone has been off since I was taken so maybe they tried calling but they couldn't reach me.
But why aren't they picking up my calls?
What happened to Axel's phone?
Jay Jay made a sound, making me look at him. He is seated next to me on my bed, playing with his toy.
I caressed his hair a bit and moved my attention back to my phone.
I dialed Axel's number again and placed my phone to my ear.
"The number is not available at the moment. Please call back....." I hung up, sighing in frustration.
I dialed my mom's number.
I placed my phone close to my ear as her line rang.
She picked at that third ring.
I quickly stood on my knees.
"Mom?"
"Why hello, Mia," George's familiar voice disappointed me.
"It is nice to hear your voice again. I have missed you every single day."
I gulped. "Please give the phone to my mom."
He chuckled. "Come on now, little sweetness. Don't you want to talk to your stepfather?"
I reached for Jay Jay's hand as his evil voice sent terror down my spine.
"Don't you miss me too, Mia?"
"I want to talk to my mother.... please."
He chuckled again.
I held Jay Jay's hand tightly.
"Tell you what, why don't we meet at a nice place? I know a motel close to the mall where you work."
I furrowed my brows.
"The name is Magnet. Let's meet up and I will give you the best time of your...."
"George!"
I flinched at the sound of Mom's familiar loud voice in the background.
"Fuck," George whispered.
"Who the fuck are you talking to?!" She yelled as I released Jay Jay's hand and moved the phone to my other ear.
"Mom,"
"Give me that shit. Wait, is this my fucking phone?!" She yelled again.
"Cool it, Elle, geez." I heard George say.
She scoffed.
"Mom?"
"You have some nerve calling my husband, you snake."
"Mom, I need your help. I am...."
"What did I say about calling my line, huh?!"
"I know but I was kid...."
"You don't listen, do you?" She snapped.
Tears approached my eyes.
"What the fuck is wrong with you? Why can't you leave my family and me alone?"
"Mom,"
"Why can't you leave my husband alone?"
"Mom, listen...."
"Leave him alone, you fucking irredeemable WHORE!"
"I called you not him!" I lost it.
She was silent.
My heart heaved as tears rolled down my face while I breathed hard.
"I called your phone not his. Why are you always ready to attack me like this, Mom? I am your child."
She was still silent.
"What did I ever do to you?" I asked and more tears flowed.
She broke her silence with a scoff.
My heart ached.
"You stopped being my child the day you seduced my husband."
"I didn't seduce....."
"Shut your mouth and never call this line again!" She retorted.
I sniffled.
"I have only one child. You are dead to me." she hung up.
My heart broke entirely.
I lowered my phone, sobbing bitterly as my heart tightened.
Jay Jay placed his hands on my hand, making me look at him.
He is looking at me.
I picked him up and hugged him, letting out sobs as I recalled that night she walked in on George trying to force himself on me.
He gave her false news.
He made her believe I was trying to seduce him.
She beat me up and kicked me out that cold harsh night.
I was just eighteen.
She said I was old enough to find my path.
She let me visit but rarely.
She has been mean to me ever since.
I have lost my mother.
But I am finding it hard to accept that.
God, what is this life?
What is this?
Jay Jay's meaningless talks and his grip on my hair brought me back to my reality.
I held him by his arm, looking at his angelic face.
"I love you, Jay Jay,"
He smiled, reaching for my face with his tiny hands.
I chuckled, sniffling afterward. I moved closer to me and I kissed his temples.
"You are my best friend in this cruel world."
I placed him on my lap and let out a sigh, staring at my phone.
So much for her getting worried about me.
NIGHT HOURS........
The sound of a door closing snatched me from the grips of sleep.
I looked at the doors in my room.
They are all closed.
I sat up, yawning as I looked around me again.
I thought I heard.....
Did I hear wrong?
There is no one here.
I moved my eyes to the alarm clock.
It is past midnight.
I looked towards Jay Jay's crib.
I moved the duvet off me and got down on my feet.
I walked towards the crib and I found my little bestie sound asleep.
I smiled at him, taking in his adorable sleeping face.
I yawned again, covering my mouth as I walked towards my bathroom.
I closed the door behind me and walked towards the toilet. I did my business and flushed the toilet.
I walked towards the mirror and ran my fingers through my messed-up hair as I stared at myself in the mirror.
I have bags under my eyes from crying so much.
I am instantly reminded of my mom, making my heart ache a bit as I stare at myself.
I let out a sigh, turned on the taps.
A loud beeping sound mixed with the running tap, made me turn off the tap immediately and look around the bathroom.
I furrowed my brows as silence swept the place.
I did hear a loud beeping sound.
I am sure I did.
I rested my eyes on the bathtub covered with curtains.
I don't.....
I don't remember pulling the curtains.
My heart picked up as I thought of someone hiding in my bathtub.
First, it was the door closing.
Now....
Now a beeping sound.
I gulped.
A lot of negative possibilities filled my head, making my heart pound.
Someone is in here.
"Wh....who is there?"
I got no response.
My legs weakened and my hands felt sweaty instantly.
I looked behind me and then at the bathtub.
I made a decision.
I took slow steps towards the bathtub.
The more I got closer to it, the more my heart begged to explode.
What if it is Imani?
Or...
Or worse, an armed robber?
I stood in front of the curtains of the bathtub.
I was about to reach for it but froze at the sound of a familiar ringing tone playing from the bedroom.
I looked back as it continued ringing.
My phone.
Oh my God someone is calling me.
I ran back into the bedroom and picked up my ringing phone on the nightstand.
Axel is the dialer.
My heart jumped for joy as I took his call while moving towards the windows.
"Hello? Axel,"
"Mia?"
My heart fluttered at his familiar voice.
"I saw your calls. How have you been?" he asked, sounding concerned.
I couldn't help but smile.
"What have you been up to? Did you find a job?"
"Not really. I need you to help me, Axel."
"Help you? What do you mean?"
"Some dangerous gang took me. They mistook me for an abductor. I need you to come save me from them."
"What are you....."
"Honey!" a familiar female voice interrupted.
I furrowed my brows. "Is that....."
"Honey, come on, your friends are waiting." She called again.
"Coming!" Axel answered.
"Axel...."
"I am sorry, Mia. Let's talk about this later. I have to go."
"No, no, Axel,"
No response.
"Axel, wait, I need your......"
My phone was snatched away from me instantly.
I turned and locked eyes with furious icy blue ones, glaring down at me.
Terror washed over me.
It was the boss.
God, how did he.... How did he come in?
I didn't hear the door open.
"You fucking callin' your loser boyfriend in my fucking house?!"
I shook my head, taking a step back but I met the window instantly as my heart pounded.
"You finna inform him about my kid?"
"No," I whispered, struggling with my breathing.
"Are you fucking kiddin' me right now?!" he yelled, smashing my phone on the wall.
"No!" My heart clenched as the pieces of my phone fell on the floor.
My heart bled and tears rolled down my face as I stared at my only chance of freedom.
Next, my cheeks were grabbed forcefully and I was faced with a furious face and icy blue eyes.
