Chapter 88 Strict Warning
Cara rose from the dining chair and went into her bedroom to get a change of clothes. Putting on a semi formal black and white dress, she put on a pair of black high heels and packed her hair behind her.
Picking up a black small bag to match with her shoe, she walked out of her room and got ready to leave.
Jessica had also texted her the address of the said place for them to meet, a high end bar not too far from Cara's residence, and she decided to drive herself there.
The time to meet was in two hours time but she wanted to get there early to survey the place, just in case Jessica had fixed any hidden cameras or something like that.
She got there in less than thirty minutes. Arriving there, she made herself comfortable by sitting at the bartender's front. She decided to take something soft, after all she was with a baby. She would never get used to the fact that she was pregnant.
"Would you like anything else, ma'am?" The young bartender asked her.
She shook her head, "no thank you. I'm fine. I am waiting for someone so if we need anything when she arrives, I will let you know."
He nodded his head and returned to his duties.
Jessica went to the living room to give audience to her father in law. The man was sitting on a couch with a glass of green tea in his hand. As he noticed her walk in, he took one sip from the cup and placed it on the table.
"Ah... You are here." He said, sitting up straight to drop the cup on the table. "Have a seat." He stated, pointing to the seat opposite his own.
Jessica sat down reluctantly. "Good afternoon father."
"Afternoon." He responded in a disinterested tone. "I will not take much of your time since you must be very busy scheming to fix the problem on ground."
She arched a brow at him and sat crossed legged. "I am. I am in a hurry myself." Her tone showed lesser or no respect at all as she spoke to him.
He did not respond to the rudeness in her tone. "What have you been doing all morning?"
She stared confusedly at him. "Sorry?" Her perfectly thin brow arched. "I do not seem to understand what you mean by that question."
"What I mean is... What resolution have you come about today? Regarding the company and the mistake you made." He explained.
"Oh that." She relaxed into her seat. "I am working on it so don't worry too much about it."
Michael Knowles questioned her boldness with the arch of a brow but said nothing. He continued. "I am the owner of my own company and I have every right to ask you about the progress of something bad that you did. If I remember clearly, it was a result of your own mistakes--"
"How can be you blame me for something like this?" She cut him off, her tone being overpowering and dramatic. "My own husband was with another woman on a day that was supposed to be a happy day for me and all of us.
"Rather than being by my side to congratulate me for the new position I was awarded, he chose to go to his ex wife and create a scene! Begging her in public to take him back even though we are married with a son!" She sprung to her feet in a dramatic sense.
"A child is involved! I gave my all to him and he is blindly choosing to throw it all away without a second thought."
Michael Knowles watched her in total silence as she kept on blabbing and speaking her mind. Whether it was true or not, he did not care, but his company's future was on the line and what mattered most was finding a solution to the problem on ground.
When she was done yelling, he spoke to her without raising his voice. "Sit down."
She let out a heavy sigh. "I am in pain! Physically and mentally and emotionally as well! I thought you cared about me and my well-being but you are not even saying anything in my defense!"
"I said..." His voice was cool but anger was evident. "Sit down."
Reluctantly, she sat back down and folded her arms beneath her breast.
He let out a soft sigh and reached forward to take a sip from his green tea. Placing it back on the table, he relaxed into his seat. "You must know that your responsibilities as our loss and finance control manager is still there waiting for you and irrelevant of the mess that you have created, you still have to answer to your office calls."
She arched her brow at him. "You want me to work irrelevant of the fact that I have an unachievable task in hand to do?"
"Oh so the task is unachievable for you or is it not?" There was a hint of mock in his tone.
Jessica wished she could swallow her words back but it was already too late. She wanted to roll her eyes but manage to keep herself from doing so. Anger thrived in her veins like freshly brewed coffee, overflowing inside of her and intoxicating her.
If she did not get out of that living room any time soon, she was sure to say some words she would regret like she did with Romeo the night before.
She swallowed hard, clenching her fist together in anger. "I have somewhere to be and it is related to your company that I am trying to save." She emphasized on the words 'your' and 'I'.
Michael did not try to keep her any longer than she wanted to be there. He nodded his head and rose to his feet. "Alright. I simply called you here to remind you of your duties and emphasize greatly on what you must do to save yourself.
"I know that you are believing you can scape through this even if you get kicked out of the family but know that my wife and son will throw you into an unimaginable hell if things go badly for us. I myself who has always supported you will show you the true venom of a Knowles."
Jessica felt a shudder run down her spine.
