Chapter 85 Those Pinning Eyes
"Oh dear!" Jessica suddenly screamed, placing a hand on her forehead and acting like she was in distress and was about to pass out. A princess in distress.
"How long will I have to put up with this?" She cried out.
All eyes were now fixed on the catastrophic show that she was putting on. Murmurs followed without a second's pause. "What is going on?"
"Is there a fight between the former couple?"
"Is something going on between Mr Knowles' son and his ex wife?"
Jessica pretended like she was heartbroken even though she was a woman without a heart. "How long will I live in the shadows of Cara Smith?!" She demanded firmly, letting her voice overshadow the murmurs of the onlooking crowd.
She walked towards her husband and stood in front of him. No one expected the next cause of action, not even Chris, until a loud and resounding slap landed on his face.
Gasps erupted in the hall, from Cara as well. Meanwhile Romeo just stared in awe.
Chris growled angrily. "What the fck did you just do?!"
Jessica buried her face in her palms and began to pretend sob. Turning away from him-- her husband-- to purposely face the camera, she removed her hands from her face and spoke loudly. "How long will you keep chasing after Cara, your ex wife? How long will I have to sleep alone in a separate bed? How long will I be left untouched?
"For the past year we have spent together, you have only had eyes for one woman and sadly, she is not me." Dramatically, she swirled around to face Chris. "You have forgotten that I am the one who had your child, Cara is barren! Is that not part of the reason you cheated in the first place?"
Chris wanted to speak but a soft and gentle voice stopped him. "Is this it?" Cara asked without much effort, though her voice was calm, there was an air of strict energy flowing through it.
"Excuse me?" Jessica responded with an arched brow.
Cara walked over towards her and placed her hands on her hips, standing akimbo, she continued. "Is this your master plan? To fake a scene? Are you in on this too Chris?"
Chris spat out immediately. "What?! No! I would never try to do anything to hurt you! You know that."
Murmurs resurfaced. "Why is he acting so loyal to his ex wife?"
"Are they still hooking up secretly?"
"His own wife is standing right in front of him, hoe or not, he should not disregard the fact that they are married with a kid!"
Cara decided to ignore those murmurs and the uprising ones. Instead, she focused on Jessica. "So what if I cannot have a child? I am not the first and I will not be the last."
"Why are you trying so hard to be confident now when it shames you so much and you keep it a secret from the world?" Jessica had a devilfish smirk on her face as she questioned.
"Secret?" Cara arched a brow, she let a soft smile take away the hardness on her face for a moment before continuing. "It is no secret, it is just my personal life. Do you expect me to post it on the internet as recent news?
"At least I am better than you who live in one man's house with another man's child pretending it is his."
Loud gasps erupted in the hall. One from Jessica herself. She stared wide eyed at Cara, losing her composure for more than a minute.
She looked wearily around at the cameras' watchful eyes and intense gaze. They did not back off, not now that things were just starting to get interesting.
She stuttered, trying to defend herself. "Wha-- what are you t--talking about? Huh? Making foolish claims!"
Cara chuckled softly. "You don't seem to like it now that the tables have been turned, do you? I came here to witness an event with Mr Romeo Armani, not to disrupt it. Firstly, Chris has been chasing me around ever since we divorced, there's no use lying about that one.
"But did you or rather have you ever stopped to wonder 'why it is happening? Why is he after a woman he gave up on? Why is he so relentlessly trying to get that fcking barren woman back?!'" She stopped.
Letting out a soft and gentle sigh, she continued, keeping her voice soft and relaxed. "'It must be because that fcking barren woman is better than me'. Have you ever thought about that?"
Jessica clenched her first together so tightly till her knuckles went white. Anger flowed through her veins in the stead of blood and pain cracked her skin, bringing out the ugly side of her.
"You useless btch!" She raised her hand in the air to hit Cara but a firm grip kept her hand at bay.
She stared surprisedly at the calm and handsome face now standing close to her, holding her hand from touching Cara's face. "You don't want to do that." Romeo said softly to her.
He lowered his voice even more. "Just keep on playing the part of a sad woman who is searching for the face and love of her husband, don't try to drag Cara and I into something so shallow ever again. Do you understand me?"
People had to strain their ears to at least hear a word from what he was saying but no one was able to make out the whole sentence from the movement of his lips.
Jessica stared into the emerald eyes of the man that was before her, a cold shiver ran down her spine like she had been bathed with his words. Or rather, those eyes. Those eyes made her feel so little and fragile, wanting nothing more than to be held and cuddled.
Yet alas, her anger broke free. She wasn't angry because he had stopped her from touching Cara but rather because a man like him, so handsome with heavenly features and an impossible pinning eyes, belonged to Cara and Cara alone.
