Chapter 8 And We're In Business
Mr Knowles swallowed hard. How could such an absurd favor be asked of him? And he wasn't even asking like a favor, he was stating it like he was telling him what he must do!
“I am not asking for a favor here.” Romeo stated, as if he had read the man's thoughts.
Mr Knowles remembered that his son had called him and told him not to even think about investing in Cara's father's business. His son didn't explain anything to him about their divorce and Romeo. ‘What a fool!’ He cussed. ‘He could have at least mentioned the fact that she had an Armani on her side!’
He cleared his throat. “I– I uh understand that Mr Armani–”
“I don't think you do.” Romeo cut him off. His voice was stern and firm. He had been sitting in a relaxed position before with one leg on top of the other and his back pressed against the comfortable sofa but he sat up straight and uncrossed his long legs.
Mr Knowles seemed to shift back in seat, like there was an infinity around Romeo that kept them from being even a little bit close to each other.
Cara stared in utmost disbelief. She had never seen Romeo like that before. He was always all smiles and play but now he looked so stern that she wondered if they were two different personalities inside of him.
He looked so high and mighty. She knew of his status of course and how rich his family was but she had never stopped to imagine him exhibiting all that power inside him.
Rather than being afraid, she found herself staring at his face. His calm yet firm expression like that of a cool boss that you shouldn't mess with. He looked more handsome than he ever did to her.
Shaking her head slightly, she returned her focus to the conversation on ground and realized that she had missed some part of their discussion.
“...is what I am asking you to do. I don't think I need to state my reasons to you.” She heard Romeo saying.
Nr Knowles was sitting as modest as he could and nodding his head like a child being scolded by his mother. “I understand sir. I'll do everything, perfectly!”
Romeo gave a slight nod. His expression held neither satisfaction nor displeasure. “Good. I'll keep an eye on you.”
“Oh no need to stress yourself like that! I promise to get it done immediately!” Mr Knowles stated firmly in a tone that stated he would do just that.
Romeo rose to his feet and Mr Knowles sprung up after him. Cara, on the other hand, brought herself to her feet slowly, still trying to process the things she had seen. Never did she think she would live to see the day Mr Michael Knowles cower in the presence of any other man.
“I hope to see the news soon.” Romeo said firmly. He turned to look at Cara and his lips spread into a smile with his dimples pressing into his cheek. “Come on, Carina.”
Cara nodded and followed after him.
Mr Michael Knowles saw them out of his office, keeping a distance between himself and Romeo. He walked with his hands in his front like a loyal servant that had just received an earful for breaking something.
Outside the building, Cara stopped and turned to look at Romeo. “That was… how did you…?”
He smirked, his expression changing from a stern arrogant CEO to a cute little boy's own. “I told you I had my ways, didn't I?” He opened the door to the front seat of his car for her while grinning childishly.
Cara smiled softly. “Thank you.”
He nudged his head towards the car, telling her to get in.
She took a step forward but then her phone began to ring. “Oh,” she raised her bag to take out her phone. “Please excuse me.”
He nodded his head and leaned against the door of the car he was still holding open for her.
Taking out her phone from her bag, she stared at the name that displayed on the screen. “Oh, it's my dad. I was gonna call him to tell him the good news anyway.”
Romeo smirked.
She answered the call and pressed the phone against her ear. “Hey dad, I was gonna call you just now. I–” Her smile left her face and a look of shock replaced it. “What do you mean? Let's talk in person. I'll come over.”
“Okay.” She said after a moment and hung up the call.
Romeo's smile had disappeared as well. “What's wrong? Is your dad okay?”
She nodded. “My dad wants to step down.”
