Chapter 78 Jessica's Reign
They all stared confusedly at Michael, waiting for him to explain himself. The man grinned from ear to ear and nodded affirmatively at his daughter in-law. "This is exactly the kind of character we need in the Knowles company, you know how hard we are trying to thrive, with such a determined mind, we can do anything!"
He turned to look at his wife. "Sarah, listen to me."
Sarah stared impatiently at her husband, gritting her teeth in annoyance but trying her very best to hold herself back before she scratched out his eyeballs.
Michael continued. "You told me personally that you need a break, you said you have not been able to pay close attention to your fashion house, would you rather give her control over what you hold so dearly to your heart or just a simple position in my company?" His brow arched.
He walked towards Jessica and touched her shoulder slightly. "This young soul burning with rage is what we need. Of course... I am not happy that my son's marriage is not working out well and I will be sure to address that on a more clean table, but for now, I will hand over the position to her, she will plan the coming event and how she does is what will decide whether her position will be temporary or permanent. I hope to keep you as an asset but I will not help you in any way. You are on your own."
She bowed her head softly with a gentle smile tugging at her lips. "Thank you father in-law, I really appreciate this offer and I will not let you down."
He nodded his head. "This breakfast is over." He turned and walked away.
Jessica left the table as well with an accomplished smirk and Chris couldn't help but to chase after her. She knew and didn't bother to stop him as he stormed into her bedroom.
"What the actual fck, woman?!" He barked angrily. "I don't understand what is going on anymore, how did you do this? Why is my dad earnestly behind your back and what did you mean about my mother cheating?"
Jessica broke out in a chuckle, sitting rather comfortably on her bed. "What you don't know my dear husband is that I have eyes and ears in places you don't know and I have heard and seen things. As for your dad, I promise you, I am not shallow enough to sleep with him. I simply just gave him the love and affection his family failed to give him."
Chris snorted a laugh. "You think you are thriving right? Did you think I would cower when you told my parents I have been going after Cara? Why do you think I am going after her in the first place? Because I realized that you are terrible at everything!
"You're terrible at being a wife, you're terrible at being a woman! You are definitely terrible in bed and I don't expect you to be better at running an event. Loss control manager?" He scoffed. "Sure, give it a go, when you fail, just get ready to pack your things and leave my house."
Jessica felt angry to the core, but rather than giving him the satisfaction of a reaction, she smiled softly. "When you are done, you can leave my room please. I have an event to start planning."
Chris stormed out of the room and he grunted angrily. "You just wait and see, you think you are the only man with connections? I'll just have to prove you wrong!"
Over the course of the next few days, Jessica made sure that every single preparation went as it should. Of course, several attempts from mother and son to sabotage her plans came as expected but she was ready for it all. Now it was time for her to really prove herself.
Meanwhile, Romeo picked himself up from his seat after work and started out of his office. With only just a few days to his birthday, he knew his family and friends would surely be planning something.
Walking towards the elevator, several employees bowed their heads and he smiled, acknowledging them. Getting to his car, he sat down in the owner's corner and did his seat belt. A sigh escaped his mouth.
"A tiring day as expected." His driver uttered with a soft smile on his face and Romeo nodded his head.
"Exactly. Take me home please." He ordered in a respectful tone.
"Yes Sir." The man responded. He put the car in ignition, "oh, while you were busy sir, an invitation came in for you from the Knowles family."
Romeo arched his brow. "Knowles?"
"Yes sir." The driver picked up an envelope and handed it to his boss. "Apparently, they are celebrating an anniversary for their company, Mrs Knowles herself invited you."
"Chris' mom?" He muttered confusedly to himself. The Knowles family obviously knew that he was now with their ex daughter in-law so why would they stretch an invitation his way?
For things like that, it was more expected of them to invite his parents and not him.
"Sir," his driver cut through his thought. "I meant the younger Mrs Knowles. Their new bride."
Now Romeo was even more confused. Jessica had invited him? "She came here herself to hand an invitation to me?" He arched a confused brow.
The driver nodded his head. "I had offered her audience with you but she said she was too busy and had other places to go but she is really looking forward to seeing you there. She had told me herself that you are inclined to bring a plus one."
What kind of scheme could that be? Why would Jessica of all people reach out to him? Was she thankful that he stood up for her the other day or was she having some funny ideas?
He nodded his head after a brief sigh. "Thank you for telling me. take me to see Cara instead," he said and the driver nodded.
With a sigh, he muttered; "I think it's best she hears about this."
