Chapter 48 Undeserving

Chapter 48 Undeserving

They all looked surprisedly at Romeo, even Andrew. Their sweet smiley boy was never one to curse like that.

Cara took out her phone and responded hesitantly. "It's... It's Chris." She stared at the screen once more. "Wait, what? Why is he calling me?"

"That's what I'd like to know!" Romeo said sharply. "Does he take you for a fool or what? After leaving you like that, he needs to know it's the end of the story for both of you. Why the fck haven't you blocked his number anyway?"

Her eyes were wide open. She didn't know why Romeo was so angry. She knew he disliked Chris. Anyone in their right state of mind would. But he never really said bad words out loud or lost his cool like that just at the mention of Chris.

"Uhm... Sorry?" She hesitantly responded. "Uhm... I'll just... I'll pick it up real quick and be right back with you. It seems I didn't make myself clear enough the last time we met." With a sigh, she picked the call and walked out of the mini mart.

Romeo let out a sigh as he ran his hand through his hair. "Take my card, I'd like to make payment for what I bought." He said to Darla in a gentle tone.

Though his voice wasn't harsh, she immediately accepted the card and went to process his payments.

He had purchased quite a lot of things and she had to help him carry some.

Andrew placed a hand on Romeo's chest. "Hey man, are you okay?"

"Why do you ask?" Romeo had a frown on his face.

"It's just... You seem mad. Are you good?" Andrew's thick brow arched.

"I'm good." Romeo partly muttered before continuing out of the mini mart, pushing the door aggressively.

"I'll be back in time to help you with the good wine and whiskeys." Darla hurriedly said to Andrew before following after Romeo.

Andrew didn't know what to make of Romeo's sudden anger so he decided to make nothing of it.

Moments later, Darla returned and showed him their best wines and whiskeys and rums as she had promised.

Meanwhile, Cara stood outside the mini mart just a few steps away. Her blood boiled more than she believed it could. "Why the hell can't you read the signs? Not even signs, why don't you understand my freaking words!"

"Cara," Chris called her name softly. "I know you are mad and you have every right to be but I cannot get through to you if you don't calm down. You won't be able to see my point if you keep yelling like that!" For someone who wanted to beg her to come back to him, he was starting to lose his patience.

Cara had not given him a chance to speak since he called her. She had been yelling the same thing over and over again. "Don't ever call me again!" And as much as he was trying to be patient, it just wasn't working well.

"Don't you get it? I don't need you to get through to me, I don't need you for anything! Go to your wife and son! Your sweet wife and son."

"Cara just hear me out okay?" He said and didn't wait for a response before he started talking. "Listen, things have been really hard on me just as much as it has been for you. Getting over the person you truly love is hard and it must seem almost impossible for you."

She scoffed a laugh in disbelief but he kept talking anyway. "Even though you are trying to comfort yourself with that rich boy, I can tell that you are not happy and it's fine! You don't have to hide it from me!

"Jessica... Being with her is not what I thought it would be. I mean it's not as hard as being with a dumb rich boy like your situation but it isn't easy either." He let out a heavy sigh.

"I'm willing to start things over with you if you are. I know you are even though you don't want to admit it. As an apology, I got you a brand new car. Cool and not too expensive the way you always like your things.

"And don't be surprised that I know that about you, you have always bought cheap things since we met and I realized that is who you are. You don't need the expensive car the rich boy got you, you probably don't even know how to use it and it's fine.

"There are tons of people out there who just aren't made for big things like that."

Tears welled up in her eyes at his words but she blinked them back. "What did you just say to me?" Her voice had become as cool as the wind that blew at her face.

"You are so touched right?" He let out a chuckle. "I knew this would work. The car I bought you isn't something that will spoil quickly so you don't have to worry about the money to fix it. I got it from Breeze."

She wished she could put her hand through the phone and strangle him till he no longer breathed.

She wanted to pluck out his eyes and feed them to him and then send him to a highway. How could he insult her like that? Indirectly calling her cheap!

She scoffed. "What do you want me to say right now Chris?"

"That you love me and you want to come back to me. You don't have to say love now if it feels hard for you and don't worry about Jessica, I'll drive her out as soon as you say yes." He sounded proud of himself and his words.

She felt a single tear drop trail down her face as Romeo's words echoed in her head. Did Chris really take her for a fool? Romeo was right! Why hadn't she blocked him yet?

She wiped the tear from her face. A man like Chris was undeserving of her tears.
