Chapter 42 On The Elevator
Cara had woken up a little earlier than usual to make sure she was extra prepared for the trip.
She had spent over thirty minutes working on the perfect curls to add to her hair and what product to apply and make it more bouncy than it already was.
She had decided on a baby blue suit trouser and shirt with a black turtle necked top on the inside. Her bouncy new curls were left to fall over her shoulders and a pair of black high heels clung onto her feet.
Her neck was bare of any jewelry but her pinky finger and index was decorated with thin silver rings while the other hand was her thumb and index.
She had done so many beauty therapies the night before that her face was looking so perfect that morning without any make up. Lightly, she applied a shade of red to her lips and little powder on her face. Her eyes were carefully outlined.
Her change of clothes was packed inside her small traveling box and she was ready to go.
She was so excited and nervous for a trip she continuously turned down that she couldn't stomach anything.
A knock was heard on her door and after putting on the last piece of jewelry-- Pearl earrings-- she walked towards the door and opened it.
The alluring scent of seductive perfumes and colognes mixed together filled up Romeo's nose the instant the door was opened. He smiled. "Hey, you're ready and on time."
"Yeah." She found herself smiling sheepishly.
Romeo was dressed casual, a black leather jacket, black pants and a white T-shirt on the inside to match his expensive looking white sneaks.
A chain of gold hung around his neck and a thin decorative ring around his wedding finger.
Yet she still found him very handsome and dare she say the word, sexy.
"Let me guess," Romeo said. "You woke up like two this morning to get ready on time. Did you even sleep at all?"
"Mock me all you want, at least I'm ready to go." She responded with a smile and Romeo chuckled. "Hold on," she continued. "Let me get my bag."
"Sure." He remained by the entrance as she went deeper into her bedroom to get her things.
When she returned, he finally got the chance to take her in as she walked back to him. Everything she had on were the things he had purchased for her. From the black shiny hand bag she hung on her shoulders down to the shoe and jewelry. He smiled.
"Here," he said. "Let me." He took her bag from her and started down the hall after she locked her door.
They both stood in the elevator in silence, Cara didn't know what to say so she took out her phone and began scrolling through it when she realized Romeo was on his own phone.
"Hey," Romeo suddenly said and she looked up at him with a smile on her face. "So firstly, when we get to the car, I'll hand you my phone to take a look at the pictures of the place. I had a room decorated especially for you too.
"Secondly... My friends can be quite the teasers, they'll say anything for a good laugh so please don't take anything to heart."
She nodded her head. "Got it. I'll try to remember that just in case so I don't throw a man overboard."
Romeo let out a soft laugh. "Yes, please don't."
The elevator light flickered and the elevator itself lost its balance. Romeo immediately-- almost as if subconsciously-- held Cara's hand to keep her steady on her feet.
"Woah, has it been doing this a lot lately or are you just noticing?" He asked her, still holding her hand even after the elevator gained its balance.
"Uh.. Uhm it..." Cara stared at his hand wrapped tightly around hers. His grip was strong and sent a sense of protection through her entire body.
"Humph?" He turned to look at her, waiting for her response.
His emerald eyes made her choke on her saliva. "It uh... It has been doing this way for quite some time now... I guess."
His thick brows furrowed, making him more handsome than she thought he could be. "Hmm... This isn't good. It isn't safe, I need to give a notice to the apartment representative to get it fixed before it shifts from a minor problem to a serious one." He explained.
None of what he said though made sense to Cara since she wasn't listening. She wanted to break free from his hold but her will to was just too low.
The warmth his hand provided reminded her of the way she always felt around him and her heart flickered out of control just like the elevator light.
She almost found herself wishing he wouldn't let go when his hand slipped away from hers.
He reached into his pocket with his now free hand and took out another phone. "I think the number was saved here..." He muttered to himself as he looked from phone to phone.
Cara didn't know how to react or what to do with the hand he was once holding. Should she just act normal like nothing happened?
Sure, it was just her hand but still! Or was she the only one over hyping the situation? It should mean nothing to hold hands right? Yet her heart still fluttered.
With the hand, she gripped onto the handle of her bag so tightly.
The elevator door dinged open and Romeo returned his other phone to where he had removed it from. "Come on, I'll get it fixed to avoid any casualties." He touched her back slightly as they walked out of the elevator.
She wanted to shriek. Why would he keep making her heart flutter without even realizing it?!
They were finally released from the cramped space and they both went towards Romeo's Tesla car.
She sighed softly, another cramped space. Her face was still burning red from the elevator moment.
She thought to herself, 'should I just take my car?'
