Chapter 168 Panama City

Chapter 168 Panama City
Pacing around outside the office non stop, Cara chewed on her nails while trying to gather her thoughts. Jayden? How come? Why? Why was Jessica's obsessive ex boyfriend the one who shot Romeo? What kind of connection was there to it?

She didn't understand, nothing made sense. No matter how she tried to link it to Chris, it went back to Jessica. Was it Jessica who wanted to turn her wedding day into a mourning day for her?

Was Jessica pretending all along just to get herself out of the city and then kill Romeo?

But why? So Cara would not be able to have her happily ever after? Could she really be that psychotic?

"Mrs Armani, I'm going to have to ask you to calm down." The police officer said to her. He handed her a bottle of water and let out a soft sigh. "Here, drink this and calm down. Can you tell me how you know that man in there?"

She accepted the bottle of water but didn't drink it. As she stopped pacing, she looked into the office where Jayden was being held and she felt anger rise inside of her.

Jayden sat down there, hale and hearty, while Romeo was laying unconsciously in a hospice bed.

But she knew she had to calm down, especially when she realized her grip around the bottle had tightened so much he hand began to hurt.

"Honey," Miranda said to her. "You need to help us here."

"I know, I--" Cara's eyes went back to Jayden. He did not look so calm, he was tapping his foot just like she was when she was nervous and also biting his nails.

She wondered why he was so nervous. Jayden was a man who had been in and out of prison for so many bad things, why was he so afraid now?

Her brows creased thoughtfully for a second before a soft breath left her mouth. She looked at the officer and managed to speak. "That is my friend's-- former friend-- ex boyfriend. That friend is Jessica Knowles, ex wife of Chris Knowles.

"That man in there is also the father of Jessica's son, Jeremy. Chris already knows that Jeremy isn't his son and he even tried to kill him so I don't think it is possible for him to work with his son's real father and not kill him.

"I don't know-- I just-- it's just not making any sense. No matter how much I try to carve it, it keeps pointing at Jessica. Could she have asked him to kill me or Romeo then they would be together forever or--"

She cut herself off and ran her fingers through her hair.

"Alright thank you," the police officer responded with a soft smile. "You're still panicking and that won't help us. I need you in there with me so we can question him. He hasn't said a thing since we brought him here last night but I have a feeling he will talk if you are in there."

"That's too much pressure for her to handle." Joshua said as he walked closer to them.

Cara spoke up immediately. "No, i think he's right."

"Cara--"

"Joshua I know, you are only trying to look out for me and I get it but my husband was shot on our wedding day and if i can help with his investigation in any way then i wont sit this out. I'll be fine."

A soft sigh left Joshua's mouth and he nodded his head, knowing well that he won't be able to convince his sister otherwise.

With a nod of her head, she walked in with the officer and they both sat down opposite Jayden.

She forced a frown to her face, trying to mask her fear. "I only have one question for you..." She said softly. "Why?"

Jayden let out a mocking chuckle. "Why? I don't know, money maybe? I don't even know that dude I shot."

"Who paid you to shoot him?" The police officer asked.

"I'm only responding to the lady." Jayden said as he relaxed into his seat.

The police officer felt annoyed but he had to give in. "Be careful." He muttered softly into Cara's ears before walking out of the room, hand on his gun holster.

As soon as the police officer left, Jayden sat up and even leaned closer towards Cara. "Listen, I don't want to die here and if you want answers, you'll have to help me get out of here."

Cara let out a chuckle. "That's where you are mistaken Jayden, if you don't want to die here, you'll have to talk. Cause if you don't, you'll be playing with a death sentence."

Jayden frowned and fell back into his seat.

Cara let out a scoff. "Why did Jessica ask you to shoot Romeo? Did she ask you to shoot me and you missed?"

"Jessica?" His expression scrunched with confusion. "I don't even know where that bitch is. Didn't you help her escape or something? With my son, MY son!!!" He growled, slamming his handcuffed hands on the table.

Cara tried her best not to flinch. "So it wasn't Jessica?"

"Why did you help her take my son away from me? Everything changed when I found out I had a kid and he even looks like me! I wanted to start over with her and our kid but she was so fixed on living with that wretched coward all for his money.

"So I was going to give up my son for a huge amount of money but she couldn't get it. Guess what? I ratted her out to her beloved husband and he tried to kill her--"

"And your son." Cara cut him off. "Do you know that? Your son would have been dead if I hadn't helped her escape. Would you have preferred that?"

"I never meant for that to happen." There was a hint of sincerity in his tone. "Listen," he started as he sat up and leaned closer to her. "I need you to help me get out of here or lower my sentence by something great so I can leave here and meet up with my kid.

"I can tell you everything you want to know. Time is running out. I'm sure by now you can guess it was your obsessive ex husband who wanted to kill your new husband, you're smart, but what you will never guess is where he is right now so help me." His voice was a hushed whisper.

Cara let out a soft sigh. "Co-operate with the investigation and you'll get a lower sentence. You won't be convicted for your other crimes, just this alone and you will not be given a death sentence because you showed remorse and helped capture the real villain here."

Jayden was silent for a while before finally speaking. "Panama City."
