Chapter 167 The Suspect
Walking over towards the couch, she had never felt any more hesitant in her life before.
Her fingers caressed the fabric of the dress, a pretty white dress turn red. The scent of flowery detergent caught her nostrils, making it known that it had been dry cleaned, yet red stains were still visible.
She would have never believed it if someone told her her wedding dress would be soaked in her husband's blood.
She didn't cry, she couldn't. She didn't remember how to.
On the table close to the chair was a letter carefully folded in half and placed on the lid of a small food container.
She picked it up and opened the letter, "Go easy on yourself for the sake of the baby. Joshua."
It was only after she read the letter that she remembered she was carrying a baby. What would become of their baby if Romeo never woke up? Was their unborn child already fatherless? What would she tell the child? That his father died because of her?
It was her fault anyway. If she had never gotten herself tangled with Romeo's life then he would not be laying there almost lifeless.
It had to be Chris, Cara was too sure of it. What was she thinking? Trying to get married while her psychotic ex husband was still on the loose?
Romeo didn't deserve this, why wasn't she the one that was shot? Why didn't she see the bullet until when it was too late? Why had she not been hit?!
"This is your way of punishing me, isn't it, Chris?" She asked in a gentle tone. "Why...?" She fell silent for a brief moment before yelling out loud. "Why??!!! You could have just shot me! Why him?! Why him when he is innocent? Is it a crime that he loves me and you don't??"
A single tear drop rolled down her face just then.
The door to her room slid open and Miranda walked in. A soft sigh left her mouth as she saw Cara with a wet face. "You shouldn't move around too much with that IV attached to your wrist, you'll only end up hurting yourself."
"I don't care... I want to hurt myself, I want to die!" She bellowed, yanking at the IV drip connected to her wrist.
It pulled out in an instant and blood began to trail from where it was once attached.
Miranda rushed to her and held her wrist. "Are you out of your mind?!" She yelled out, raising her voice at Cara for the first time.
Cara stared with widened eyes, surprised by Miranda's sudden outburst. She blinked.
Miranda continued. "I know you are going through immense pain right now, I know! And nothing I say can comfort you when I am not even your real mother but you will have to listen to me right now.
"You are going to be a mother in a matter of months, do you think it is easy being a mother? If you act so immaturely then you will be hurt by so many things that shouldn't even hurt you.
"Why have you given up hope anyway? They never said he was dead so why are you acting like this? If you die and he wakes up, what is your gain? When you are rotting away in hell with your innocent and unborn child, he will be living his life like you never existed! Don't be a fool and eat your food right now. Afterwards, we'll go to the station and talk with the culprit."
Cara's eyes widened more. "The culprit? Isn't it Chris?"
"He isn't talking but it isn't him. He might be working for Chris through. Eat."
Miranda's tone was so commanding that Cara could not argue with her. She simply sat down and began to stuff her face.
A soft breath escaped Miranda's mouth as she watched Cara force the food down her throat. She lowered herself to sit next to her and patted down on her back softly before brushing her fingers through her hair.
"Romeo is a strong man," she started, her tone as soft as a flower petal. "he is fighting it, he will wake up. No matter how long it takes, you have to wait for him and be strong. Smile, talk to him, rest, eat, you're carrying a small person inside you remember?
"If not for yourself then at least for the baby and Romeo, he strong. I'm not asking you not to cry, but don't hurt too much because everything will be fine."
Tears poured down Cara's face but she immediately wiped them away. Miranda was right, she had to get her act together. She needed to be strong now more than ever.
At the station, Cara could not sit comfortably. She waited impatiently for the culprit to be brought out. She wanted to find out who it was that shot Romeo and why.
Joshua walked in and leaned against the door frame with his arms in the depth of his pocket. "Apparently he was caught last night after trying to hide the weapon. For someone who attempted murder, he was kind of sloppy or the police are really good at their job."
"And you are sure it's him?" Cara's brow arched softly as she asked.
"He is a suspect. When they found him, he had a gun with him and he doesn't have a license for it. A bullet was missing and he tried to run away when he was being questioned.
"He also tried to shoot a police officer to escape but they managed to tame him. A black jacket, face cap and mask was in his living room and people reported seeing a mysterious guy in all black at the wedding.
"If it isn't him then i don't who else it could be." His shoulders shrugged softly.
Cara inhaled and exhaled nervously. She could not stop her feet from tapping against the ground non-stop.
Joshua noticed her foot tapping but decided to ignore it. She had to calm down one way or the other.
Just then, a young police officer walked in with a man in handcuffs and Cara's jaw dropped to the ground.
"Jayden?!" She barked as she sprung to her feet.
A wicked grin curved on Jayden's lips. "Pleasure to see you again darling."
She felt her inside curl into a ball of rage.
