Chapter 162 Your Word
Cara went through the comment section, not a single supporter. All the words of hatred, though, didn't seem to have a single effect on her.
She had all the love she needed, he was sitting right next to her. Her family was there for her as well, not limited alone to her father, Miranda and her brother, but also Romeo's parent.
Romeo snatched the phone from her hand, "don't read the comments, they are just haters." He said to her.
She smiled, "I know, I'm fine."
"Who do you think could have done such a thing?" Joshua questioned, filled with so much rage.
"Who else?" Cara spoke up. "The Knowles family. Jessica must be the one behind the strings, she just can't stand seeing me happy at all." Cara concluded. Though she was not entirely wrong.
Miranda let out a soft sigh. "That girl... How could one's heart be so blackened? Didn't she use to be your best friend? So why? I don't just understand." She rubbed her forehead wearily.
"Don't think about it too much Miranda, some people are just not who we thought they were." Cara responded with a soft smile.
"Well how are we going to respond to this?" Joshua questioned, obviously still enraged.
"Simple crisis management. We'll call a press conference, issue a press release, do everything we can. It will be over soon, trust me." Romeo responded, trying to assure them. "There is no public relations team better than mine so I'll make them take care of this."
He turned towards his beloved. "You need to get ready to address the public today, I'll stand right next to you but the mic will be yours. Tomorrow is our wedding so we have to sort it out today."
Cara nodded her head. Her phone suddenly lit up, buzzing loudly as it rang. It was from an unknown number and she felt hesitant to answer it at first, but curiosity drove her to answer the call. She remained quiet though.
"Cara?" Jessica's voice muttered softly from the other side of the phone.
Cara felt a surge of anger flow through her body. "I got the present you left me Jessica, you must be feeling so fulfilled right now."
Everyone in the room suddenly tensed up. She must have called to gloat, they thought.
"No Cara, I didn't mean for any of this. I mean I did but like not like this-- no that sounds wrong. I just-- I mean--"
"What are you saying?" Cara cut her off, feeling impatient. "Just skip to the point and stop beating around the bush."
A soft sigh left Jessica's mouth, more like she heaved a deep breath to control her emotions. "Cara... My son and i are in danger."
"What?" Cara asked confusedly.
"The truth is... Jeremy is not Chris' son." She admitted, feeling shame wash over over as it was evident in the tone of her voice.
"I know." Cara responded softly.
"What is the btch telling you?!" Joshua demanded angrily.
Cara simply shushed her brother.
"You know? How am I not surprised? You have always had a sharp wit." Jessica said, a hint of a smile in her tone.
"You certainly didn't call me to compliment me." Cara's voice was stern as she spoke.
"You are right. Sorry. So to get back on track, my son and I are in great danger, Chris is trying to kill us. He has lost his mind completely and he is so fixed on getting you back as his wife.
"You are not safe either, he will do anything to have you. Even kidnap you! I wanted his crazy obsession with you to stop so I asked his mother to take you down, just for peace. I never instructed her to blackmail you like this though.
"He found out that Jeremy is not his son so he wants to get rid of us by all means. I have packed my things and run away from there with my son.
"Last night, when he confronted me about knowing the truth, he threatened to kill me and my son. Just this morning, I left Jeremy unsupervised for a simple second and when I got back, Chris was pressing a pillow to his face!"
"What?!" Cara barked in utmost shock as she sprung to her feet. "He did what?!"
Romeo rose fo his feet next to her, confused yet worry caused his forehead to crease. What could Jessica possibly be telling her?
"It was so crazy, I was so scared. I tried to pull him away but he wouldn't let go so I had to hit something on his head. Before he woke up, I already took what I would and run away."
Cara was beyond shocked but she managed to calm herself down. "So why are you telling me this? What do you want me to do about it?" Her brow arched.
"I know I don't deserve it so I won't ask you to help me. Instead, I'll bargain with you." Jessica stated.
"Bargain?"
"Help me and I will help you. I have so many things to help you clear your name, you must be planning a conference right now but trust me when I say it won't help you.
"Your words will mean nothing to the public but if you have solid evidence against the Knowles family to prove that their hate is enough to drive them to frame you like this, then your name will be cleared in an instant.
"And I, all the evidence you could ever need, have them with me. Just give me your word and I will give you everything you could possibly need and more."
Cara was silent for a moment, thinking about the words Jessica had just said to her. "My word?" She asked, "what if I betray you?"
"I'm willing to take the risk of a betrayal, Cara. I deserve it. But I know you won't betray me once you give me word. Do I have your word?"
Jessica's tone shook with desperation.
Cara fell silent.
