Chapter 153 How It Should Be
Jessica was still seated on the ground, trying to comprehend the situation that had just happened. A voice snapped her out of her thoughts.
"What's all this ruckus?" Micheal yelled out as he rushed towards the hall way. His eyes widened with surprise and shock as he saw Jessica on the ground, holding on to her neck and looked so baffled.
He rushed to her, holding her. "What happened here? How come you're sitting on the ground here?"
Hot tears spilled from her eyes and trailed down her cheeks. "It was Chris..." She managed to get the words out of her mouth. "He... He just tried to kill me. I was so scared, I thought I would die and never get to see my son again, I thought... I thought... I thought..." The words hung in her throat as she tried to spill them.
Her brain was too fazed and so she could not even complete a simple sentence.
Micheal pulled her into his arms, trying to provide comfort the way he could. After all, he didn't hate the criminal, he just hated the crime. "It's okay..." He said softly.
He sucked in air through his teeth. "I always had a feeling he was not my son..." He muttered softly to himself.
Jessica's ears happened to catch these mumbles and her eyes widened in shock. She decided to pretend she had not heard his words, or maybe she didn't say anything because she believed she had heard him wrong.
Either way, she was not going to let go of such words so easily.
Wiping her face, she rose to her feet with the support of Micheal. "Thank you so much, I am fine. I thought you hated me..." She said softly.
Micheal cleared his throat softly. "Well... I don't hate you, I hate the things you did but not you. I don't hate anyone, not even a man who killed someone." He said with a soft smile on his face.
"Are you well? Will you need a doctor?" He questioned her.
She shook her head, managing a smile. "I am alright. Thank you so much."
A sigh left his mouth as he touched her shoulder. "Hang in there, take care of yourself."
Her head nodded in response, a smooth smile caressing her face. With that Micheal made to walk away.
She thought to find out if she had heard him wrong or not and not let go of such an opportunity just like that. "Maybe there are some people you should hate," she suggested suddenly.
"What?" He asked as his steps came to a stop.
She turned to the side to look at him properly. "Imagine a man that was betrayed by his wife saying he doesn't gate her, does that make any sense to you?"
His eyes squinted softly. "Betrayed by his wife in what sense?"
"There's this friend of mine, she is angry at her dad because he left her and her mother. But I don't blame the man, do you know why?" Her thin brow twitched as she asked him.
"Why?" He inquired.
She smirked, enjoying the look of inquisition playing on his face at that moment.
"Because..." She leaned in closer towards him. "Her mother lied to him, she was not his daughter all this while! Her mother brought in another man's child into the house and forced the innocent man to care for a bastard child.
"To make matters worse, the woman was having an affair during the relationship, she was never so considerate of the man for once even though she was making him raise a bastard.
"What would you do in a situation like that?" Her brow arched as she asked.
Micheal suddenly looked choked by the question, his chest was stiff and he let out a dry cough. Batting his lashes awkwardly, he kept trying to clear his throat.
"Well..." He said, "do you... Do you not think that the woman must have had a reason for doing something like that?"
"Something as shameful as that?!" She hollered. "Bringing in a bastard!"
Micheal leaned in as if wanting to press his hands over her lips. "Keep it down please?" He pleaded softly, keeping his voice to a low whisper. "Sorry, i just... I don't want the maids getting whiff of this discussion before they turn it into a terrible rumor."
She could tell that that was not the reason at all, she felt so pleased breaking through him like that. So Chris truly was not their true son?
Sarah Knowles was such a btch? Why was she not surprised at all by this news?
She smiled softly. "Oh no, I am the one that should apologize here. I am just so surprised that you are trying to reason with a woman like that. If she were to be your wife, are you trying to tell me that you would forgive her because she had her reasons?
"She lied to you! Broke your heart! Stole away all the good memories that should belong to you with your child! You will have to live with the fear forever that the real father can step in at any moment to claim his son from you!
"Now that's absurd. Even if we were to assume that she had her reasons for doing that, she never trusted you enough to tell you why, she lied to you and still did not care about your feelings.
"She cheated, hurt you, was mean to you. She doesn't care. I didn't care about my friendship at that moment, I told my friend the truth of the situation and it was only then she understood that her mother was the one she should hate, not her father."
Chris seemed so convinced by everything Jessica had said to him, even to the extent of taking it into consideration.
But something else came to his mind, where would he start from? Who would take over his company? Who would all his wealth be given to?
Jessica could almost read his mind. She took a step towards him, a smirk on her lips. "Offer the child a stay in your life but keep the mother away. That's how it should be."
He stared at her. "Hmm..."
