Chapter 143 An Advice
Jessica was taken aback by Cara's wit. How could she have found out so easily even though she did not give off any signal pointing towards that?
But she refused to give in. At least not so easily. She cleared her throat, stumbling over her words. "What?! What an absurd thing to say... I mean pff! How stupid do you think I am? Letting such a scoundrel blackmail me for money? I mean come on!" She could hear the lies through her tone. She did not sound believable at all.
Cara gave a roll of her eyes. "Go ahead," she said softly. "Tell me. What kind of information does he have about you? What does he have against you to demand such an absurd amount of money from you?"
Jessica's face hardened to match her tone. "It's none of your business. I don't wish to tell you so I don't have to tell you because it is my personal business but i will tell you this, it is something worth the amount. That is why I did not argue with him on this!" She spat out angrily.
Cara scoffed a laugh. "It is none of my business? Alright fine, so why are you coming to me for money? And also, no blackmail is ever worth the amount they demand for. You should stand up to him and--"
Cara's words caught in her throat. A thought fell into her mind just then and she looked into Jessica's eyes. "Could it be...?" She muttered softly. Could Jayden be Jeremy's biological father? Was that what he had against her? That was the only plausible thing to make the high and mighty Jessica Rhodes cower so much.
Knowing well that if such information was to find its way to the public, her image would be tarnished and she would be kicked out of the Knowles home for good.
If not sued for letting them take care of a bastard child for over a year now!
Cara did not know whether to confirm her suspicions by asking, knowing well that Jessica would not tell her the truth, her reaction would. But should she ask her or keep the information to herself?
It was better to keep it as a backup weapon in case Jessica ever thought to try something funny again. That was if Jayden did not release it to the press before then.
"What? Cat's got your tongue? Why did you suddenly become quiet? What are you thinking about?" Jessica questioned, looking into Cara's knowing eyes, wondering if she had been sorted out.
'Can she see the truth through my eyes? Has she found out what it is that Jayden has against me? Will she go ahead and tell the public before Jayden does?" All those questions ran through her mind yet her lips remained silent.
"Nothing," Cara responded. "All I have to say to you is this. Sort it out with him because if you pay this sum, he will definitely demand for a billion dollars next and you will have no choice than to pay it. So stand up to him if you have to, we both know what kind of man Jayden is so be careful while you do so."
"Wait is that it?" Jessica questioned.
Cara stared at her, her brow arching. "What do you expect me to say?"
Jessica broke into a chuckle. "Oh my goodness, Cara I know that we had a fall out but is this really how you are going to treat me? We used to be best friends! You were so nice to me! Have you suddenly forgotten everything we had together?"
Cara scoffed a laugh. "A fall out?" She sucked in her through her lips, "are you really calling this a fall out? Jessica, you stole my husband! You so desperately wanted to ruin my life and watch me crumble yet you call that a fall out?"
"Cara I--" Jessica groaned. With a sigh, she continued. "You would have done the same thing to me if you were to be in my shoes. I wanted that good life and it just wasn't coming to me! What else can I do when you happen to have a very vulnerable husband who has his eyes on me?"
Cara shook her head in disbelief. Her eyes burnt with disdain for the woman that sat opposite her. "I'm sure that Jayden makes you so angry, the sight of him alone makes your skin crawl and you just wish that nothing in this life will ever bring you two together ever again."
"I feel worse." Jessica said with a roll of her eyes. "What does that have to do with you and I?"
"That is how I feel about you." Cara's words were cold, yet it burnt through Jessica's skin like fire, it melted her like she was ice.
She did not know how to respond to such words. She did not love Cara, she did not even like her. But she was just realizing that she did not hate her. She hated Chris.
But Cara hated her to the core, disliked every single little detail about her and never wanted to see her face because it ruined a good day.
Jessica felt so uncomfortable sitting there. "Well..." She forced a smile to her face. "Newsflash, that is how I feel about you as well. I would never have reached out to you if I was not so desperate."
"Well," Cara rose to her feet with the grace of a queen. "You made a mistake, I'll tell you that. All I have for you is my advice and a stern warning. My advice goes like this, whatever secret it is that Jayden is threatening you with, don't let him get his way.
"Jayden loves you and he will never hurt you. My warning.. " she glared down at Jessica and Jeremy. "Don't ever contact me again unless you want us to take things to court. I am blocking your number right away, tell your husband as well, I don't ever want to see his missed calls on my phone again." Her voice was laced with detest.
