Chapter 10 Take Over
As much as she insisted that it was okay if she took a bus alone to her parents house, Romeo refused and told her he would drive her himself.
“There seems to be more important things than our trip now.” He remarked.
She smiled briefly. Her head was lost in a series of thoughts. Why was her father suddenly retiring? She knew the company was not doing well but with enough hard work, they could stop it from going bankrupt.
Was he feeling like he was too old for business hassle? All of a sudden? Did her step mother consent to the decision? Why would they think such a decision was a wise one to make?
She had so many questions written down in her head to ask them once they arrived there which wouldn't be long anymore.
Arriving at their family house, she decided to invite Romeo inside. Since he was intelligent business wise, maybe he could chirp in a few words to back her up.
Miranda, her step mother, served both of them tea. “You hardly come home these days. We miss you.” She had a warm smile on her face. The blonde woman aged like fine wine.
She was going to be fifty in a matter of a few years yet she still looked like she was in her late twenties.
Cara smiled. “A lot has been going on lately. Actually… I wanted to ask if I could stay here for a while until I found an apartment of my own. It won't take too long.” She explained.
“Is something wrong?” Miranda asked worriedly as she sat down next to Kenneth, her huahand and Cara's father.
Cara sighed softly as she dropped her cup of tea on the centerpiece. “Chris and I… I filed for a divorce.”
Kenneth's eyes popped out. “What?! Why? What happened?”
“We… well things aren't working out between us anymore and he… he has someone new.” She admitted with a sigh.
“That son of a btch!” Joshua, her older brother, spat out angrily. He looked as if he could tear Chris to shreds and he would if only he was there. “I always knew he was not worth you. I should go to that cursed house of his and teach him a lesson! And his wnch mistress!”
Cara smiled softly. Joshua always had her back and was always on her side.
He was taller than she, protective, caring and good looking with messy brown hair and deep blue eyes.
She suddenly remembered why she was there in the first place. Her eyes landed on her father who had a sad expression on his face. She knew what his worry was.
Their company was being funded by Chris and with their divorce, it obviously meant he would be pulling out.
She sat up straight. “But dad, don't worry, our investment is beyond secure.”
He looked up at her, a little startled. “What? How?”
Cara turned to look at Romeo and smiled briefly.
Romeo cleared his throat. He took it as a sign for him to introduce himself. “Hello, my name is Romeo Armani. I have offered to fund the company and see it through till the end. You don't have to worry about ever running bankrupt.”
“Armani?” I knew you looked familiar!” Joshua stated. “He is super rich dad. As he has said, I believe our company will be fine.”
“And–” Cara added. “Mr Knowles, Chris’ dad, had offered to invest in us too so we will be fine. Really dad, you don't have to give up.”
“Give up?” Kenneth's brow arched. “Who said anything about giving up?”
Cara blinked. “I thought you… I thought… you said… you said you were stepping down!”
“I did, not that I was giving up on my life long effort. I would never do that.” He stated firmly.
“Your father would rather carry the company's building on his very two shoulders to keep it standing rather than giving up.” Miranda explained, touching his shoulder softly and lovingly.
Cara chuckled softly long with the rest of them. Her step mother was right. “But then… if you step down… is Joshua taking over for you?”
“Not even at gunpoint!” Joshua remarked. “Suit and tie, going to work every day, stressing my brain till I have nosebleed, not my lane of work at all.” He stater firmly to make his point.
He had always said that. He made sure his parents understood him clearly when he said he wouldn't be taking over the company. Instead, he taught at an academy.
“Then… who…?” Cara asked confusedly.
Kenneth had a soft smile on his face. “With all the support you have managed to acquire for us, I believe strongly that the company will thrive. In no time at all, our company will be oit there everywhere! With a never ending list of clients.
“To make sure that happens, we need a virtuous and strong leader, someone who will put in all that it takes. Which is why I am stepping down… for you to take over.”
Carla was dumfounded.
