Chapter Twenty-Nine

I woke up really early the next morning. I tried going back to sleep, but I just couldn't and that pounding in my head made me groan. I was hungover.

How did I do this to myself?

I sat up and right away I noticed that Jaden wasn't in the room. This was just like every morning, realizing that he didn’t sleep here anymore.

I groaned again as a headache kicked in harder. I sighed, slowly heading for the door. I wanted to grab something to drink from the kitchen.

I held onto the, praying that I didn’t fall as I trudged to the elevator.

I noticed nobody was out here, not even the maids that woke up extra early everyday.

Ten minutes later, I arrived at the kitchen and turned on the lights. I opened all of the cabins because I couldn't find any cups on the

counter.

Finally, I found a glass, I grinned. I washed it and was about to pour my water when the kitchen door creaked open. I jolted in surprise as I held onto the glass.

"Jonas?" I said. “Hey, what are you doing here?" I asked.

He shrugged. "Woke up and couldn't sleep. I saw that the kitchen light was turned on so I decided to pop in."

“Oh…” I assimilated. “Do you know where the towelettes are?”

“I don’t think so…” He trailed off. “How don’t you?”

“You’ve lived here longer than I have?”

“That’s your excuse?”

“Yup.” I replied proudly.

"I did live in this house longer than you, but I don't know where the towels are. The maidens shifted everything. I know everything so well here that when I was little, I would just walk in here with the lights off and I would still know where the food is." he said.

I smirked. "You eat at night?"

He shrugged, smiling a little.

"Fatty!" I laughed, shaking my head.

"Fine, I will ask you the simplest question, since I haven't been here before. Do you know where the trash can is?" I asked the question slowly.

"Yes, in here." he said, grinning.

"Wait a second, where are the staff?" I asked.

"Today is their day off." he said.

I nodded. There was a long moment of silence in the air.

"So how are you and Jaden doing?" he asked, breaking the silence and startling me at the same time causing me to rip my finger with the paper I was subconsciously folding.

"Fuck!" I cussed. "Can I get a bandaid?”

"I'm going to try to find one, wait here.” Jonas said, running out of the kitchen.

I hoped that he knew where the band aids were.

I stared at my cut for God knew how long, until Jonas returned.

"Here is it.”

"Great, thank you very much." I put it around my finger.

"Let's get out of the kitchen." Jonas said and almost immediately, my stomach grumbled.

"Can you cook?" I asked, blushing even more, knowing that I couldn’t cook to save my life.

Jonas’ eyes widened dramatically. "Unless you want to get poisoned."

I smiled, I guess the boat of us belonged in the same group.

"Can you cook?" he asked, "You're the one that wants food."

"You must have dead taste buds and great patience if you like my cooking." I said, raising both of my eyebrows. He grinned.

"Ok, so who is going to cook if both of us don't know how to cook?" He asked.

"Both of us." I said.

"Pardon?" he asked.

"Fine, then do whatever you want, you have nothing to do either. Everyone is asleep anyways and it would be rude if you just wake them up." I said, smiling innocently.

"Fine, what do you want to make?" he asked.

"Omelette." I said, choosing something super simple to make.

"Ok, let's get started."

I grabbed four eggs, milk, salt, water, flour and sugar.

"I think those are the ingredients." I said.

Jonas grabbed the pan and lit the stove. I cracked the egg.

"What the hell?!"

"What?" I asked, looking up at him.

"You were supposed to put oil in it."

"No you don't!" I fired. "Who puts oil in eggs?"

"Everyone."

"Not me." I said, flipping him off and used a spatula to flip the egg. I failed miserably.

"Hey!" I exclaimed over my shoulder, "I can't flip the egg!"

Jonas cackled.

"Hey! Stop laughing and help me!"

"See! I told you to put oil in the pan before you put the egg."

"Ok, I gotcha, now what do I do with the egg? I'm having a hard time flipping it." I said.

"Throw it away, it's not edible."

I threw the egg away and decided to try again.

I poured the oil first and then the egg.

This time when I tried to flip it, it was easier.

"See my point?" Jonas asked, over my shoulder.

I put in the salt.

"Aren't you supposed to put in the sugar?" Jonas asked.

"Sugar? In eggs?" I asked.

"Yeah, every egg that I eat is a little bit sweet."

"Sweet? What planet are you from?" I asked.

He rolled his eyes. "I swear!" I crossed my arms and raised a brow.

"Whatever!" I dismissed.

I poured in 2 cups of water, stirred the egg.

"Water, are you sure?" Jonas asked.

"Yeah, water loosens the egg, making it soft and not stiff." I said, speaking like a teacher tutoring a dumb kid.

"Soft?" Jonas asked, a bewildered expression on his face.

"Yeah.”

"Ok, just remind me not to eat that ‘omelette’."

"Hey! I don't insult your cooking skills! So don't insult mine, unless you want me to comment on everything you do!" I said, pointing my spatula at him. He held up his hands in surrender.

I stirred the pan and the eggs looked like a small handful of wet clay. Jonas laughed in mockery. I frowned as I disposed of the eggs.

"Let the expert handle this." Jonas said, pushing me aside.

"The expert, huh?" I asked.

"Yep, step aside, let Chief Jonas walk you through!" he said. I laughed.

He put the butter and cracked the egg like he had lived in the kitchen his whole life. He put the sugar and salt in the egg.

"Why are you putting salt when you asked me not to?" I asked, crossing my arms.

"Because it can taste salty and sweet, but I put in more sugar then some salt." He said. I rolled my eyes, crossing my arms. He poured in cornstarch and started stirring it.

"Why are you putting in powdered broth?"

"That's how you get the color."

I raised my eyebrows. He put in butter.

According to him, he said that butter makes it tasty. He shut the lid and we waited for twenty minutes.

"It's not finished cooking, yet."

"Then, when will it be finished?"

"I don't know."

"Even I, the awful cook, knows eggs aren’t meant to look like that..." I said.

He opened the lid again and it was one awful omelet.

"I don't think that’s edible." I whispered pointing at the omelette. He threw it away.

"You know what? I think I cook better than you." I scoffed.

"What?! That is not true." Jonas fired.

"It is."

"It’s not!"

“It is.”

“No way, you were the one wasting the eggs!"

"Are you joking? Who in this world put broth in their omelet? Broth!” I said.

"So? Who puts salt in their omelet?"

"Jonas? Domino?" A voice interrupted our debate.

"Jaden?" I asked, scratching my head. “Morning?"

He looked from me to Jonas and back.
