CHAPTER 115- DONT YOU DARE

CHAPTER 115- DONT YOU DARE
Asher listened carefully as all the different proofs pointing at his mum having something to do with the disappearances of his ex's were laid down, and he couldn't believe his ears.

Everything in him screamed there was no way possible she was responsible, but there was a part of him, the tiniest voice deep within, that knew that there was a huge possibility.

What kind of a man would he be if he saw that possibility and shoved it away? If anything, maybe he didn't love these girls as much as he thought he did, but at one point, he did care about them, and right now he should care enough to want to, if not get justice, at least know what happened with them.

"Mr Smith, Mr Smith," the voice of Agent Roe snapped him out of his thoughts.

"Yeah?" Asher asked, not having followed what they were saying.

"Uhmmm, we were asking if you'd be willing to do that," the agent said.

"Pardon? Do what exactly?" Asher asked.

"Put on a wire and confront your mother and possibly get a confession," the agent replied.

Asher sighed deeply before responding. "Do you really think I'd help you out with your job after you set me up to fall in love with one of your agents just to use me? And do you think I'll willingly help you put my mother behind bars? Wow, you people amaze me. No wonder you even have a dirty detective, and you don't even know."

"Pardon?" Agent Roe asked with a look of confusion on his face.

Asher let out a sarcastic laugh before he responded, "One of your agents sold me this video, promising me it won't get out, but here we are."

"What??" Agent Roe asked, "Agent Kiya sold you this video?"

Asher scoffed, "Oh, so you got this video from Kiya? When I thought things couldn't get worse, they did. Anyways, no, Kiya didn't; one agent, Harry, did, and if you were wondering who exposed your undercover agent, he did that too."

Asher didn't care about the deal he had made with Agent Harry anymore. The dude didn't keep his end of the deal so the deal is off.

The room went deathly silent, and after a moment, Asher got up to leave but not before saying, "I owe you people nothing. Do with that video whatever you please; if you want to take it to court, be my guest. I'll see you in court, but whatever this is, or whatever deal you're offering me to get a confession from my mother, I'm not going to be a part of it, excuse me." He walked out with his lawyer following closely behind him.

By the time he got to the car park, his lawyer drove off while he just sat in his car and stared into space. He was brought back to reality by a gentle tap on his car window. He looked up, and his eyes met Kiya's. He looked away, ignoring her.

She stood there and just waited. He kept ignoring her, knowing she would eventually take the hint that he didn't want to speak to her. After about fifteen minutes, she was still standing there; he let down his window.

"Asher, please," she said. "I know we have no right to ask this of you, and it's no obligation of yours to help us, but please, Asher, if not for anything, for the fact that those girls once meant something to you."

That statement hit a nerve, and Asher turned to her with an obviously annoyed look on his face. "Don't you dare, Kiya. Don't you dare stand there on your high horse and tell me what to do as though you know what is right and I don't. Don't you dare speak to me in that patronising tone."

"I let you in my life; I came completely naked with you; I told you things about me only people close to me deserved to know; I gave you access to me, to my family, and to my friends. I did everything for you; I was respectful of you when you didn't want to have sex." He then paused and scoffed, then continued . "I wonder if you being a virgin was even a lie, a ploy to make me trust you. I was always there for you. I would literally get you the world if you had asked. I put a promise ring on your finger, confessing to you just how much I love you. Heck, I bought you a freaking building. I was going to tell you when I proposed to you." He laughed, "and all these while, I was just a fool to you. I bet you and Amarah sit down and laugh at how gullible I was to fall for your charms." He then shook his head disappointedly.

Kiya now had tears streaming down her face, and with a coarse voice, she responded. "I'm sorry, Asher, and I know that will never be enough, but that's all I can say. I know I came into your life all under a fake persona, but I promise you, every emotion was real. I loved you, and I still love you, and with regard to my virginity, that wasn't a lie, and I don't regret losing it to you because I know you really did love me, and I know I have no right to ask anything of you, but please, Asher, I know you are a good man, and I know you want to do the right thing despite your anger, so please do the right thing."

She then walked away as Asher's eyes followed her.

He knew she was right, and he knew he had to do the right thing, but he just couldn't, not right now; he needed to think.

He started his car and drove home. He packed up some clothes and some essentials; he headed to a grocery store and got some groceries, after which he headed to his family's lake house. It was empty and practically in the middle of nowhere. No one has been there in over three years. If there was one place he could think clearly, it was here because it's a quiet place and the next house isn't till miles away. There was no disturbance, no hustle and bustle, just nature, peace and quiet.
