CHAPTER 107- THE RECORDINGS
CHAPTER 107- THE RECORDINGS
Just before close of work, Kiya checked and she saw Derek has already sent the proof he had. The coffeeshop was now empty and seeing as it's her turn to close up, she decided to stay back for a while before heading to Asher's place.
She opened the file and played it and she listened to the whole thing. It basically confirmed that Claudia was the one that sent that package. Kiya wondered what her next line of action was.
She forwarded the recordings to her supervisor and he called immediately.
"I'm shutting down this mission, I'm pulling you out from the undercover. Now that we know who to focus on, we can get whatever proof we need by other means." He said
"But, sir, how are we going to do that? We can't ask a judge to give us a warrant using an illegal recording," Kiya countered.
"I know that, Agent Kiya, but I'm not putting the life of one of my agents at stake for this cause."
"Sir, I can protect myself, and you've also sent agents to protect me. Don't you think we're too close, and shutting it down right now would be a mistake?"
"Agent Kiya, give me one reason why I shouldn't shut this down. Since this mission has started, let's be real, it's not necessarily brought us closer to any evidence up until now. To me, I feel we have achieved enough," the supervisor said.
"Sir, you listened to the recording. She is going to come at me again. Now that we know it's her, we'll be prepared," Kiya said.
"No, Agent Kiya, this woman obviously is a criminal. We can't be waiting for her to make moves. Who is to say she won't change her mind and just go straight to harming you?"
Kiya sighed over the phone.
"You know, agent Kiya, if she does that,if she makes you disappear, right now we don't have anything concrete to hold over her head and she will get away with it as she has done in the past."
Kiya had to think fast; she couldn't let her supervisor shut down this mission, not when they were so close already, so she blurted out, "We have something. It's going to incriminate Asher, but he was a minor when it happened, so he'll most likely go scot-free with a good lawyer, but his mother isn't a minor, and she is complicit in the whole thing, as she covered it up."
"What are you talking about, Agent Kiya?" the supervisor asked.
Kiya went to her mail, pulled out the video, and sent it to her supervisor.
"I just sent it to your email," sir.
"Okay, I'll check it." She heard some shuffling on the other end, and after a while her supervisor spoke up again. "Perfect," he exclaimed. "Now we can bring her in with this Agent Kiya. We can bring her in for questioning."
"Sir, please, just give it some days; she doesn't know we are onto her, so she certainly will slip up and we'll catch it. Don't call it off yet."
"Okay, Agent Kiya, considering this video, I'll let this go on for a little while, but if she doesn't slip up, then I'm shutting it down and bringing her and Asher in for questioning. Am I clear?"
"Yes, sir," Kiya responded, letting out a sigh of relief. She played with the stone on the ring Asher gave her, and she felt tears fall down her cheeks.
It's been the most wonderful experience dating Asher Smith, and she knows it's coming to an end already. How would she explain to Asher? The easiest way out of these would be that she would have to break up with him.
She would have to think up a reasonable way to break up with him that would cause her to sever all ties with him so he'd never find out she was simply working for the NBI.
In cases like this, what the NBI does is that they make the person break up and lie about moving away, or they fake the death of the person so everyone who knew them while they were undercover can move on.
Kiya cried; she cried at the fact that she was going to have to break up with Asher. She had the perfect excuse; she'll simply tell him she knows he cheated with Suzan and that she can't be with him anymore, and then she'd say something along the lines of she has nothing here for her, so she has to move away. It'd work; Asher would believe she hates him, and he'd eventually learn to move on. She only wished it was as easy as it sounds.
She got up, tidied the coffee shop and locked it while she headed to Asher's apartment.
By the time she got there, Asher was already waiting for her. He cooked. He made a three-course dinner and lit candles.
"Hey, sugar, I made you dinner, he said as he hugged and kissed her."
"Oh, baby, you're so sweet, and I'm so famished. Thank you so much, baby."
She pushed every negative thought to the back of her mind. She would deal with them when they come. But now, she was going to enjoy whatever moments were left that she had to spend with Asher. This whole thing might have started as an undercover mission, but every emotion she has felt and everything they've shared has been nothing but real.
She dug in and ate because she was actually quite hungry and everything he made was ridiculously delicious. After she ate, she headed to her room, took her bath and changed into cute nightwear.
She came out to see Asher still seated on the couch, waiting for her. She went into his embrace, and she let him cuddle her tightly. She stared at him, memorising everything about him, from his hair to his eyes, his nose, the tiny scar on the corner of his mouth that is almost not noticeable, his soft pink lips, and his perfectly sharp jawlines.
"Baby, it's rude to stare," Asher teased her, causing her to break her stare.
"Are you alright, he asked her, with the softest most caring voice."
"Yeah, I am," she said, as she kissed him. He was surprised at first but then he leaned into the kiss.
They ended up making love in the most passionate way ever and they both fell asleep naked on the couch.
