Chapter 83 Not Good Enough
Chapter 83 Not Good Enough
Kingston's POV
“Amira, I'm sorry,” I apologised to Amira as I drove her home.
She never uttered a word. I end up talking to myself.
I felt that in my soul. I now understand how miserable Margaret felt when she was snubbed too.
I stopped trying to crack more dry jokes. Amira is still mad at me.
I don't expect her to move on so fast.
I won't be surprised if she requests to leave the house for me. I had to focus on my driving rather than trying to please Amira.
Until we arrived home, I didn't speak to her any more. She already denied me once. I don't intend to chase another record.
She left the car like a flash without looking in my direction. She hasn't done that before.
Look at the monster I made. It may take a miracle for me to win her love again.
“What have I done to myself?” I stayed back in the car to nurse my pain.
For the first time, I feel like a total stranger in my house. I can't even enter without being scared of how Amira will treat me.
I was still nursing my pain when I heard someone knocking at the gate.
I glance at my wristwatch, “3:20AM? Whom could that be?”
It's too early to expect any visitors. I stopped assuming things to go find out who might be at the gate.
To my surprise, it's Margaret
“Margaret?” I freaked out. “How did you get here so fast?”
The last time I checked, I left her at the crime scene. Considering how late it is, I doubt that she found a cab home so soon.
“I'm here for my things. Please let me in while I go get them myself,” she demanded in a commanding tone without providing the answers to my question.
There's something different about Margaret that I cannot seem to comprehend. She sounds so much better and more confident.
I'm witnessing a different Margaret who was pleading for a second chance at the crime scene.
She was this close to scrubbing herself on the ground to prove how sorry she was.
“Can I get them now? You're wasting my time,” she snapped at me.
She keeps messing with my head with her attitude. It turns out that she was pretending all along.
I made the best decision by not letting her back into my life. To think that I nearly fell for her tricks when she sought help from Amira.
I was ready to rely on Amira's decision even if she wanted me to forgive her mother. I was ready to comply if that's what it takes for Amira to completely forget what I did to her.
“No, stay right there while I go get them,” I said, preventing her from coming inside the house.
I already see Margaret like a virus, and I'll do everything possible to ensure she doesn't infect me with her bad energy.
I walked to the house and headed for our room to fetch Margaret's luggage.
I took my time to scan the room to ensure I was not missing out on any of her valuables. I would rather not let anything remind me of her.
Seeking a divorce is the first step to erase her from my memory completely. And I'm ready to keep up with her energy.
I dragged her luggage to the door. I was about to exit the room when my gaze stumbled on our family picture frame hanging on the wall.
I paused to look at it for the last time. It reminds me so much of the past.
We were that one happy family until Margaret chose to ruin it all with her promiscuity.
Even when she left the marriage several years ago, I still didn't dispose of the picture frame. I specifically kept it in the room as a means of remembrance.
Every night, I spent over twenty minutes staring at the picture frame while still reminiscing about the wonderful memories I had with Margaret.
And every morning when I wake, the picture frame is the first thing I set my glance on. It has been my ritual before I embark on my day-to-day activities.
“This has to go. Learn to move on from the past,” a voice spoke in my head.
I wasn't sure who owned the voice, but I was willing to heed it. It spoke when I needed a helping hand.
I'm so fucking clueless right now. And in moments like this, I end up making stupid decisions that will come back to haunt me.
Quickly, I climbed the bed and pulled down the picture frame. I took it outside with Margaret's luggage.
The plan is to smash it to the ground when Margaret is watching.
That's the last test I need to pass to prove to Margaret that I can do without her.
I marched outside like a champion. And behold, what my eyes saw nearly made me have a heart attack.
I just caught Margaret locking lips with a mystery man next to one of my fleet of cars.
They were so addicted and engrossed with the aggressive Romance that they didn't even see me walk in.
It's her audacity for me. Margaret keeps giving me good reasons why I should send her away for good.
I suffered severe heartburn. I was too weak to interrupt them. I was patiently waiting for them to notice my presence.
While waiting for that to happen, the huge picture frame drops on the ground and gets their attention.
“What took you so long to get my stuff?” Margaret snarled.
Her reactions say it all.
Zero remorse.
She is willing to do this a thousand times again without feeling bad about it.
“Who is he, Margaret?” I point at her mystery lover.
The mystery man hid his face in shame. I assumed he would be proud of Margaret
“None of your damn business, Kingston. I thought you wanted to get rid of me so badly? Why bother about my love life?” Margaret ranted.
She makes an effort to snatch the luggage away from me, but I dodge her. I was miles away from her.
“I am not gonna release the luggage to you if you don't speak up,” I set my rules.
“Have we met before?” I moved over to the mystery man.
I looked at him from the side view, and his face rang a bell in my head.
“I don't know you,” he denied while covering his face with the back of his palm.
I didn't try asking questions any more. When I noticed that he was a bit distracted, I moved closer and dragged him to my side.
“Holy moly! Ruben!” I stressed my vocal cords after a perfect glance at his face.
“So you are the new lover?” I was still in shock.
Ruben and I used to be best of friends. He was part of those who advised me against marrying Margaret.
It's difficult to believe that he will do this to me. He went behind my back to do that which he warned me of.
If this isn't the worst Betrayal of all time, then I don't know what else it is any more.
