Chapter 74 Restoring The Bond

Chapter 74 Restoring The Bond

Jace POV

“You expect me to be upset at you? Give me a reason why I should be? You risked your life to bring Jessie back home, and that's remarkable. It takes a brave heart to do that,” she lauds my efforts.

“I was the reason he was kidnapped from the onset. I put this family at great risk. We could have lost Jessie in the process. I don't deserve to be celebrated like a retired army major general,” I had to remind my mother in case she had forgotten.

I could recall when she advised me to give up Amira for abduction to save Jessie. And when I refused to heed her advice, she slapped me unprovoked.

“Who cares if you started this whole shit? You fixed the mess, and that's what matters. That's enough to forgive you and move on,” She retorted.

Hearing this from her just confirmed that I wasn't dreaming. This is my mother and not a robot as I imagined.

“Thank you for believing in me, mum. I'm so overwhelmed right now. You just surprised me,” I wiped the tears off her eyes with the back of my palm.

“I got something to show you, mum. You're going to love it,” I readied my mind to show her the check when she interrupted me by saying, “Is it the check of twenty thousand dollars your former boss gifted you?”

“Wrap it up, son, I already found out about it from a reliable source. Save yourself the stress of explaining to me because you are going to need the energy after,” she ruined the moment with her shocking revelation.

“How did you find out about it?” I widened my mouth astonishingly. I barely walked in, and I don't recall telling her about the check. I was waiting for the perfect time to tell her.

“I told her,” Jessie confessed before joining us.

“I just couldn't keep the good news to myself alone. You needed to see how upset she was when I walked in. She nearly whipped my ass out of frustration until I told her,” Jessie stated further.

“You little brat.“ I teased Jessie. “I knew you were up to something when you were so quick to go inside,”

I wasn't upset at Jessie for messing up my gamelan. Rather, I was very impressed with how he handled the situation and calmed my mum's rage.

Malia wasn't left out of the small family reunion either as we all laughed at each other's jokes.

I missed this togetherness. I can't recall the last time we witnessed such excitement in my home.

Over the years, our joy and happiness have been deprived by my mom's sickness.

With the twenty thousand dollars, my mother will get the best medical care, and we won't have any reason to be sober any more.

“I wish Father were a witness to this. Too bad he ran away like a coward. Guess who's having the last laugh now? We! I'm sure he's regretting his actions wherever he is right now,” I groaned in anger.

“Hey, that's not the right thing to say about your father. What were you thinking? What example are you setting for your kid brothers?” My mum berated me immediately in the presence of my siblings.

I never knew I was getting her upset with my derogatory remarks about my father. Despite how he treated us in the past, my mum still defends him as though her life depends on it.

“You need to apologise this minute. I can't condone such an act,” she ordered me.

I find it quite absurd to apologise for being right. I told her I wasn't going to apologise until I had to give it up. “I'm sorry, Mum,” I did it to keep up with the excitement.

“First thing tomorrow morning, we are heading to the hospital to get you admitted,” I assured my mom.

She was so excited to hear this. This has been her wish for years. The medications from the local pharmacy weren't helping matters.

My mum is about to experience good health again. To think that the man responsible for this is Kingston, whom I perceived to be my worst enemy.

I wouldn't have forgiven myself if it had missed out on the twenty thousand dollars. Fortunately for me, Jessie came to my rescue when he spoke on my behalf.

“Give me a moment, mum. I need to have a bath. When I return, I'm going to tell you all that happened, including how Douglas was arrested” I told my mum.

“I can't wait, Douglas. I'm starving already,” she said eagerly.

My bones are getting weaker. I feel so dizzy, but I am willing to risk it all just to spend quality time with my family. I missed the bond we shared in the past.

I walked to my room with so much pride, knowing that all is in order and I don't have to sneak out like a criminal any more.

I dropped the check inside my drawer for safekeeping before taking off my clothes for a cool bath.

I spent the last couple of minutes under the shower singing and dancing as though I just secured a multi-million dollar deal with one of the biggest security agencies in the city.

I had a lot of reasons to celebrate. First, I managed to rescue Jessie from the hands of Douglas and his boys, while still ending their reign and dominance in the hood.

The downfall of Douglas and his boys signifies the end of terror and restoration of peace to every Household.

Douglas was a threat to everyone, including the local authorities. He's the reason everyone rescheduled their bedtime to eight PM.

Putting an end to Douglas's years of endless terror wasn't enough; I just found the perfect solution to my mother's frequent illness. All these were achieved in just a day.

I was still busy with my studio session under the shower when I heard a terrible sound from the living room.

I ignored it. I assumed the sound came from the next building.

A few minutes after I heard the sound, I heard Jessie screaming, “Mum!”

At that point, I knew something was wrong. I dashed out of the bathroom, shirtless, with just a towel wrapped around my waist.

I arrived in the living room only to discover that it was empty. No traces of my mum or kid brothers.

“Jessie, Malia, where the fuck are you guys?” I screamed with my loudest voice.

Suddenly, I heard Jessie crying. I trailed the voice and was led to the kitchen.

To my greatest shock, I saw my mother lying on the ground.

My heart sank. I was gasping for air as though I had just drowned in the deepest oceans.
