Chapter 155 Baby daddy
Chapter 155 Baby daddy
Alpha Caden's POV
As we walked back into Aurora's apartment, the door clicking shut behind us, a loud growl from her stomach broke the silence. I couldn't help but chuckle, a warm, genuine sound that felt good after everything that had been said.
"You must be hungry," I remarked, amusement twinkling in my eyes.
Aurora blushed slightly, nodding. "Yeah, I guess I am."
"Knowing how you could be such a disaster in the kitchen during your teenage years, how about I cook something for you?" I suggested, a playful grin spreading across my face.
She raised an eyebrow, crossing her arms over her chest. "I'll have you know, I'm good at cooking now. I've had years of practice."
I shook my head, still smiling. "No, no. I insist. Let me cook for you. Consider it a small way to make up for lost time."
She shrugged, a small smile playing on her lips. "Alright, if you insist. But don't blame me if you find me critiquing your skills."
I chuckled again and we made our way to her small but cozy kitchen. The space was quaint and inviting, filled with little personal touches that made it uniquely hers. As I began to gather ingredients, the familiarity of the scene brought a sense of comfort.
"Remember when you tried to make pancakes and almost set the kitchen on fire?" I teased, glancing over my shoulder at her.
She laughed, a light, musical sound that warmed my heart. "I remember you banned me from the kitchen for a month after that."
"Good times," I said with a nostalgic smile.
I set to work, chopping vegetables and preparing a simple yet hearty meal. As I cooked, we fell into an easy conversation, reminiscing about the past and sharing stories.
It felt like a balm to my soul, the way we could talk and laugh together, almost as if everything was okay in the world. For a little while, it felt like we were back to a simpler time, before all the complications and heartaches.
Aurora watched me cook, occasionally chiming in with her own anecdotes and memories. The smell of the food filled the apartment, adding to the warmth and coziness of the moment. I plated the meal and brought it to the small table where she sat, a look of gratitude and delight on her face.
"Wow, this looks amazing," she said, her eyes lighting up as she took in the sight of the food. "Only the best for you," I replied, setting the plates down and taking a seat across from her. We ate together, the conversation flowing effortlessly. It was as if the weight of our past and the uncertainties of our future melted away, leaving just the two of us, sharing a meal and enjoying each other's company. The connection between us felt stronger than ever, a bond forged through trials and triumphs.
As we finished our meal, I couldn't help but feel hopeful. For now, in this small, cozy kitchen, everything felt perfect, and I was grateful for this moment of peace and happiness.
Then I heard it, another heartbeat. It was faint, but unmistakably there. Aurora was pregnant. My fork slipped from my hand, clicking loudly against the plate. The sound echoed in the sudden silence, my mind reeling from the revelation.
Aurora, halfway through chewing a bite, raised her head to look at me. Her eyes widened in surprise as she took in my expression. It must have been all over my face-the shock, the realization, the confusion. She lowered her gaze, a look of guilt washing over her features.
"You didn't tell me," I said, my voice barely above a whisper, laden with the weight of my emotions. "You're pregnant."
She swallowed hard, her hands trembling slightly as she set down her fork. "I was going to tell you," she murmured, her voice tinged with remorse. "I just... I didn't know how."
The pieces fell into place. What Lucas had said about planting a seed now made sense. The faint heartbeat I heard wasn't just any heartbeat-it was our baby's.
I took a deep breath, trying to steady the whirlwind of thoughts and emotions swirling inside me. "Fox," I said softly, reaching across the table to take her hand. "Why didn't you tell me sooner?"
She looked up at me, her eyes shimmering with unshed tears. "I was scared, Caden. I didn't know how you would react, especially with everything that's happened. You are taking over the kingdom... Rose. And with Lucas... I didn't want to add more complications."
My heart ached at her words. I squeezed her hand gently, trying to convey all the emotions I felt. The jealousy was there when she spat on the word Rose. Did she think Rose and I have anything between us?
"Don't talk about Rose. There is nothing between us that isn't business. You should have told me. This is our baby, little fox. I want to be here for you, for both of you."
Tears slipped down her cheeks, and she nodded. "I know. I'm sorry. I just... I didn't want to lose you again."
I stood up, walking around the table to kneel beside her. I cupped her face in my hands, wiping away her tears with my thumbs. "You're not going to lose me," I promised, my voice firm and steady. "We're in this together. All of us."
She leaned into my touch, a small, relieved smile forming on her lips.
I pressed a gentle kiss to her forehead, feeling a renewed sense of purpose and determination. No matter what lay ahead, I knew one thing for certain: I would do everything in my power to protect and cherish the family we were about to start.
